  1. Sorry Ian, yes it was possibly withdrawn, but I have seen loads of Chic 12"s on Buddah for sale on ebay and they're not that expensive.

Joe Anderson was a 1975 release as far as I remember, so no 12" exists that I'm aware of. Incidently, "You And I" has the same backing track as "I Can Tell" by Ed Summers on SONY records, (I think) - an old Sam spin at B'ham Locarno 70s do's C.1982. He had at least two other sides on Buddah which ain't bad either.

I used to have a bunch of copies of the joe anderson that were mispressed and played nazereth's "love hurts". hilarious at first play but sad in the end...

  3. We love both sides, just a titbit of trivia. When David Ruffin and Eddie Kendrick came over on the Temptations tour in 1991 they introduced the rest of the group with them and Nate Evans was a Temp, it caused quite a stir amoungst the folks that night in Donny !

    Rob & Karen

he currently sings with a temptations revue in vegas.

He was really a recording member of the impressions throughout their cotillion period, though, he replaced Ralph Johnson who formed Mystique.

  4. Anyone with info / price on the below?

905 - He's An Aries Man b/w The Language Of Love

    903 - He's An Aries Man b/w Sunshine

    Cheers

    Rich

they still don't seem to be worth anything on ebay, despite being hard to find (and a nice cut, it reuses a whispers backing, right)? I would say $25-$40.

  5. Boba

prominent in the lyrics are'stay mine'

where in the calvin cut where he sings the lyric 'bashful boy in love' in this version its says 'stay mine'

Hi Mel. I'm not sure what the other version is, I'm interested in knowing when you figure it out. THanks.

  6. I have just been listening to the other version to 'bashful boy' the calvin record anyone remember this at all?

are you talking about calvin and the twlites on harlow? What other version are you describing? Thanks.

  7. I just checked my feedback on ebay.com, exactly as it should be???

are you registered as a professional seller? I guess so, that might explain it, I'm private seller...

they have been announcing this for a long time. EIther way, the change was supposed to happen may 18th, maybe they did it early for the UK or something, mine hasn't changed yet.

  8. condition turned out to be closer to VG+ and it has been on my wants forever, so to me, the price was justified, as i have never seen a copy for sale anywhere else.

who reissued it, out of curiousity?

Kevin, another one was on ebay like a week later (clean), I think it went for like $450. But you have the rarer DJ copy on twilight, much harder than the issue on Twinight.

The numero group (the people who put out the twinight CD) reissued it.

  9. So did...

    The Bay Brothers

    The Younghearts (70's LP).

    Alton Ellis

    Ellis Dodd

    Kenny G

    Judi Deleon

    Jonathan Butler

    Don Byron

    Deborah Davis...

    ... and Santana!

So 'oft covered' but not as often as "Land Of 1,000 Dances" methinks!

    Sean

I have a weird jazzy version of 'what does it take' by a carolina group called the ovations on a carolina triad label.

  10. whats his ebay ID ?? so i can avoid him and so can anyone else who hasn't encountered him yet

    cookie

He doesn't have a single ebay user ID, you have to look for sellers from Belgium that have 0 or very low feedback.

I bought from him once (I didn't know it was him, but it was a belgium seller with low feedback), I convinced him to take paypal because I thought I was safe. But it was 0 just after paypal had changed their policy to only refunding you what was in the seller's account and NOT fully protecting you, and I didn't know about the change.. I think the item was only like $60 and I got $40, so basically I lost $40 to this guy, which is possibly the least he's stolen from anyone...

  11. Dont know how you would classify this record - RnB ? Rockabilly? I am really not sure! Looking for USA book value of Poss

The Sonics - It aint True - Clifton records

If someone could look in the equivalent of record colector I would appreciate it!

    Thanks in advance

    Steve

I don't know anything about this record. Isn't clifton a doowop revival label though that put out throwback doowop acts (mostly white) in the 80s? Or is this item on a different clifton label?

  12. No, one of them rang me, it was for the funk side, most of them seemed to be funk collectors. Wish I'd had more copies.

sweet soul people are looking for it too, though. it usually goes for $100 - $150 on ebay but very rarely comes up for sale so I could see people paying more.

  13. 60S NORTHERN ORIGINALS FOR SALE.

    PAYPAL ACCEPTED.

Professionals featuring Chas Holiday/Lonely World-DVL Records VG+ Offers

(Not the Groove City guys. Mid tempo track. Any info' on this lot?

my friend found the professionals guy, the whole group was white (the guy who put it out was a dentist actually) and they were from DC. They are apparently the same group as the holidays on whiz and edgewoods on epic.

  14. Anyone have these available please - near mint condition

Charles Otis - I See Love Girl - Caraljo

Otis Leavill - Why Why Why - Dakar

Chosen Few - Lift This Hurt - Bandit

Ralph Soul Jackson - I Can't Leave Your Love Alone - Rajac

Jackey Beavers - We're Not Too Young - Jaber / Mainstream

craig moorer has had a bunch of the chosen few (which as you probably know is exactly the same recording as elvin spencer on twinight and the chosen few on chosen few). I just looked and it's actually featured on his front page for $125.

  15. Being a jack of all trades kind of bloke, I was from an early age very aware of the prolific release rate of West End Records - I bought this at Wigan on a 7" for £8...but I've never seen a 12" copy of it.

Knowing what I do about West End, I shouldn't even embarass myself by making this post [as I would think it obvious that it must have been released on a 12"), but again - I've never come across one.

    Can someone prove me wrong?

And if so, sell me a 12" of it?

  16. I picked up John Edwards' "There'll Never Be Another Woman" 45 on Weis a few years ago, but had never played the flip, "Lonely Life", until just now. As you do, I had a look around on the web to see if the 45 was worth anything, but I could only find mentions of a mono/stereo promo of "There'll Never Be Another Woman" for around £30. I also had a search here on SS, but couldn't find a mention of it, so ... how much is the issue 45 with "Lonely Life" worth?

I don't know the value, but FYI lonely life also came out on twin stacks. Great cut, I think it's Jo Armstead on backing vocals.

  17. After looking at the pics... you are trying to convince yourself. I don't think it's even very good minus. I would ask for at least 50% back because of the overgrading or a full refund ! I know the Nu-rons 45 isn't easy to find but trust me, wait for another copy.

    wink.gif

I get overgraded records all the time, sometimes significantly overgraded. I usually hold onto them after convincing myself that I will not get them back easily, that I would have paid the same price for lesser condition, or that it's not worth dealing with. I usually regret it because one always comes up for sale eventually (usually right after I keep the record) and even if it doesn't, I'm always annoyed just having a messed up record that I got burned on. The only reason to keep it would be if you got it at a good price, I would send it back if I were you. I'm assuming you paid a high price for that, and that you should send it back, it will come up again eventually but it might take a few years. But it definitely will come up again, i've seen that nurons for sale at least a few times.

  18. Just been having a mad half hour upstairs playing a few tunes and sorting the play boxes out getting ready to play a few after a bit of a break soon (blame my son Luke and Chelsea Football Club for that....lol) I've been playing the brilliant Willie Cager - 'He's A Player' - Contact Records out of Chicago, a stunning little sleeper of a crossover record that really needs some turntable action B/W a real hard edged Northern dancer 'What Can You Do' two fantastic but very different sides that I'm sure will cut the mustard at venues if they have not already? The good thing is that this one will only set you back £25/30.00 but may well be a good idea to snap one up if you see it listed or in a sales box somewhere.

    Regards - Mark Bicknell.

Someone just announced in the soulfuldetroit forum that Willie Cager just died last weekend. Apparently he was living in Lansing, MI when he died, I knew a couple of people in Chicago who knew him from back in the day who were looking for him. Sad news.

  19. I'm looking for 45s on the Southern City label. I already own Paramount Four, The Fox Sex, The Poodles. Now I'm looking for others on the same label.

    Cash waiting. wink.gif

are there other titles on the label? isn't that fox sex title an 80s thing?

  20. Is the harder we try the hard one? Only issued in Baltimore it is FANTASTIC sweet soul

both janus 45s were only issued in baltimore, the harder we try is the easy one (lots of copies around), the hard one is 'cross my heart' which is also very good.

  21. To my knowledge they made this one single and one LP (which includes the 45 "man").

    Marc

they were also the same group as the inclinations on janus so they has 2 45s as the inclinations, one of which is very hard to find. One of the members was previously in beverly and the del-capris on columbia.

  22. Here is a photo. From left to right: Eddie Dunn, Ralph O'Neil, Jerrone Johnson, Emmett Gardner. Eddie Dunn is the guy that sings lead "to be happy enough" (one of my favorite records of all time), "Not too old to cry", etc. There's nothing else I can do besides presenting audio and visual evidence of the facts so this is my last post on this topic. At this point if people want to post any conspiracy theories, ignore the photo, etc. go ahead.
