  2. Soul Synchronicity . . . . .was just talking about this tonoght Mike. Steve and Kev around here for our monthly playing over new purchases and bemoaning the demise of The Attic soul club we ran. These mid-week evening sesions are just about the best thing we got out of the Attic, a few very good, like-minded, friends sharing a deck to play each other a wide array of soul music, some of it even 'northern' enough to entertain the baggies (not a West Brom reference). Opinion was passed around the table, over several bottles of wine (gone the days when bitter or mild was the only offering), prompted by Steve L that Sunday sessions was the way to go. Debated the "Chill out" session and the more relaxed play-list, leading into the evening dance floor session. We agreed (all be it over several bottles) that this may be the way to go. Not taking anyhting away from the solid Fri/Sat nighter as the cutting edge, just a more sedate less physically demanding listening event.

The play list for tonights front room session would be a good start, thanks lads, loved the tunes.

  3. Think it was Richard Searling who to introduce it as "Burning Bush" by "The Burning Bush"????He did introduce it as just......... here's "The Bush!!"

    Cheers

    Martyn

I've got a tape with Searling introducing it as Burning Bush by Burning Bush, I can't recall date but it woul be well after Ginger first palyed it.

  4. the one i sold was the one above but had 2 x 45s with the gatefold cover 2 tracks on one disc and 3 on the other. is yours a 5 track ep or like the one i sold. mine also played at 45rpm

    dave

Yes Dave, same as yours. 2 x 45s with the 5 tracks across two discs.

Soul-Sider, don't know how scarce these are. My thoughts were not scarce at all, but then questioned myself when I realised I'd not seen anyhting around for a long time. That's waht prompted the thread, was curious as to how common they are. It should've come as part of two disc set though. The cover is the bit worth having in my opinion.

Needing space and spending too much, several of these are multiple copies I have for some reason (addiction!)

Joe Phillips - I Just Can't Help Thinking About You (Omen promo) Ex = £50

    Very strong haunting Northern Ballad

Jerry Ganey - You Don't Love Me (MGM DJ) VG several light scuffs and marks, label unmarked just slight grubby, plays great = £40

Wonderful room filler of a sound, deserves more plays in bigger rooms. SOLD

Jerry Fuller - The Killer (Challege promo) VG++ almost Ex apart from one minor slight scuff =£40

JM auction rated as his rarest? Not out and out Northern, but if you fancy a little northern blend into latin this is a great one for the box.

Teddy Randazzo - You Don't Need a Heart (DCP) VG+, vinyl better, slight water damage on label, flip label slight worse = £40

The Moods - Rainmaker (Wand DJ) VG++, number 4 inmarker on Rainmaker side, flip label clean = £25

The French Fries - Danse A La Musique (Epic promo) Ex = £20 SOLD

Crossroads - Coming Home to you Baby (ATCO promo) sleeve torn on one side Ex = £20

Another wonderful belting room full of sound deserving more play

The Spaniels - Maybe (Buddah) VG, label faded and several light minor scuffs plays great = £15

David Ruffin - Rode By The Place (Motown) would be Ex but for name in marker both sides = £15

Little Anthony - Hurt So Bad Ex £6

Gayle Harris - Aint Gonna Let It Gert Me Down (DCP) looks Ex BUT see below = £5

WARNING - THIS LOOKS GREAT BUT THERE'S A LOUD HISS FOR ALMOST A THIRD OF THE RECORD, WOULDN'T BE SUITABLE TO PLAY OUT, more use to label collector or display, shame it's a great tune.

UK postage £1 first class (£3 recorded)

    Europe £3

    World £5

Paypal ok or any cash arrangment you wish to make. Full refund if sent notice within 3 days of receipt

If more than one person wants I'll go with first pm or post on thread, whichever earliest. I'll combine shipping.

  6. £25 I'd say - had one for ages, sold it for £20 in the end, but records go in phases, so you never know

One finished on ebay over the weeknd for about that price Pete. Something in me was tempted but the seller didn't accept paypal and I don't like handing out credit card details too much. Can never make my mind up about it, I like it but think I shouldn't. There's something about the chorus hook that reminds me of arms aloft in a large halland happy nights. By the way new website looking good, I'm keepin an eye.

Did any others get played / make it big on the scene and is this still played / value ? g.gif

Sorry didn't spot the value? at first sight. JM auctioned a Crosswind some time last year and I think it went for £100+. Cunnie (on here) did me a favour spotting one for sale (again on here, from Jolly I think) for £50, I think that was a cheap price given foreign interst in these.

  8. Mike posted this list in Aug 10. I think Cunnie Collects these too, he put me onto Crosswind Get ready which i still enjoy at home very much.

    Budweiser Label Listing

For a change here's some info on one of the 80s collectable labels.

  9. I'm sure you've seen this Jim as it may have prompted your question. It got me thinking too. John Manship has Checkerboard Squares up for auction at the moment and in the write up says . . . . . "This was in the mid-70s the biggest instrumental play at the top Northern Soul clubs of England. Bootlegged in Los Angeles before the original was discovered by the Brits it was spun to wild enthusiasm as the Bob Wilson Sounds - Strings A Go Go ". Now I'm thinking it's a simple typo and there should be a full stop between Angeles and before, otherwise it was bootlegged before discovery by us? I know it was played in many a youth club soul night around the east midlands around 1973/4 but only ever on blue Soul Galore.

A steady stream of these going through ebay over the last year. Only seen the pic cover not the label. Are these a Euro issue of the Right On issue, I see the sleeve has PYE RO 106, same number as the Right On Issue in UK. Not suggesting anything wrong just interests me.

I can remember reading in my delivered copy of Blues and Soul (could have been echoes but kinda sure it was B&S) one week to look out for them as a new arrival on New Moon. I went down to Syd Booths in Mansfield and Phil Kingswood had New Moon promo's up on the wall for £1, got one but didn't really lik it at the time. Passed it onto Dave Withers on his Manchester indoor market stall one morning after Wigan as part of a few swaps i think. Can't remeber what i got.

Just one on those items I can remeber the history of it coming and going. Was dissapointed years later when i realised it was starting to fetch a little more and my taste had moved on. It was a while before I saw a new moon issue though.

Also - what was it with the re-issue flip with Bobby Kline, are these legit?

  11. Got one 45 left: One side The Tempose c/u (Lil Lavair and the Fabulaous Jades I think) - I'll Be So Happy b/w Lesley Gore - Just Casn't Get Enough of you (same as Apollas on Loma), think this is album only but not sure. Got this from Eric Hetherington local respected DJ we used to look up to as a 16 year old.

Just found an album but don't remember track listing - sure it includes Rain tho. Terrible sound quality.

The paper flier is an insert from an album put out locally, I'm thinking 1990s but not too sure. Can remember who but perhaps politeness should rule.

  12. Was it between the main entrance and that cafe??

Not sure if this helps but the entrance to the Empress cafe is on this pic.

Only fight of any ferocity I ever remember was between two huge (fat) doormen knocking each other down the balcony stairs that led down to the corner the gents toilets were in.

I'm sure I remeber mocking some DS inside trying befriend us, but that could be an apocryphal memory that I've implanted from another venue. I def did get searched outside to the extent of having to remove my shirt mid-street.
