Now then, not trying to sound to modest, I used to consider myself a well above average dancer,I won a few competitions in my time ,but I never ever did the backdrops and such, I always thought the peeps that did that stuff did it to get noticed, because they could not really dance very well, and I still hold to that,I know a chap ,cant dance for tuppence, but he does a bit of the acrobatics people standing around think he is brill....but his dancing is shite what do you think ill get my coat Bazza- If You Could Turn Back The Hands Of Time
Edwin Starr was on in Chesterfield couple of month before he passed on..and I forgot about it...bugger would have loved to see him again Bazza- Original Vinyl Or Nothing
"was it gedling miners welfare on mapperley top , used to go on sunday nights." Little brother ...I honestly just can't remember, one thing I remember there was a path from nearby the club up to my old school " Elliott Durham " if there was lad dancing his socks off from opening till closing..that would have been me one of my faves then was "Bill Cosby - Little Old Man" I thought it was brill Bazza- Original Vinyl Or Nothing

So .reading through the thread ,my conclusion is this CDs- are a big no no Bootlegs - big no no Reissues...ok under certain circumstances (strange) have I got it right ? Bazza- Modern Soul - Where Did The Term Come From?
Oops the Jelly beans tune should have been " you dont mean me no good" Bazza- Modern Soul - Where Did The Term Come From?
my take on this...a few examples these will always be "modern", nice tunes all of em, IMHO Driza Bone - Pressure Ace Spectrum - Don't Send Nobody Else Prince Phillip Mitchell - I'm So Happy Harold melvin and the blue notes - Prayin KENNY THOMAS - CRAZY WORLD Nicole Willis & The Soul Investigators - If This Ain't Love Don't Know What is DJ Genesis-Tribute To Betty Tonight but this next three...they are new'ish not newies or modern in the way we use the term.they are I think fast becoming northern " new northern " ? I Wanna Love Him So Bad - The Jelly Beans Will Collins & Will Power - Anything I Can Do Sidney Barnes - Standing On Solid Ground What do you think Bazza- Original Vinyl Or Nothing
Hammy ok ..if you would rather not hear the tunes.thats upto you, on the other hand I love many of the rare old tunes ,and I want to her them, I also want to support my local Venues not just the Big doo's and allnighters...most of all I want to enjoy myself Bazza- Original Vinyl Or Nothing
hey up Bazza same for us, left the scene well before Frank Wilson (well Wigan anyway), learnt a new word today, seems that I'm a returnee, you too I guess. Never liked Frank Wilson when I first heard it anyway and still don't. but whatever. the only newies are records released today (in the strictest sense) so just about everything on the scene today is an oldie, an oldie that is from a particular decade or era. My particular taste is for most things 60s and i started my northern nights at the Brit in the early 70s with trips to Vavas, Leeds and local clubs and still prefer the tunes from then although i'm a regular buyer of so called 'across the board' tunes. Must confess, I do think that we should play originals when possible but with records in short supply, ie Frank Wilson, how on earth are we expected to hear them if only one or two Djs happen to have the resources to own them. Hi Cris, my own personal view on the topic is this CDs- I Dont really think they should be played at Venues bootlegs-same goes for those Reissues- I dont have any problem..play em bye the way ..I first started my soul days at the Brit and palais and another little place in Mapperley,a working mens club ..no idea what it was called, I went to the Brit a few month back exactly the same as it was then ( I dont think its been decorated since then ) ,not going to the shed, as you know we got litte bit of expense coming up so cutting it down to once a week for the time being,we are going to matlock though,so see you there Bazza- Original Vinyl Or Nothing
Belive it or not ,when I came back on the scene I had never heard Frank Wilson, was not around in my day ...so it was a "newie" to me Bazza- Original Vinyl Or Nothing
I do Steve..but with the well known tunes ,you get to know the llittle pauses drumrolls quirky bits....just find it easier ,I need all the help I can get on the floor these days my opinion of a good night would be 50% oldies 40% newies 10% modern, I would go home with a big grin on my face Bazza- Original Vinyl Or Nothing
Hi steve ..as I have said before..I like to hear the newies ,I also like to hear the classics, classics to dance too, and the newies to listen too, from what your saying ,because I like to dance to the old classics ,it must mean I am some lower form of soulie...not true ( at least I dont think so ) Bazza- Original Vinyl Or Nothing
You do spout some rubbish Steve z,but each to his own Bazza- Original Vinyl Or Nothing
As one of the promoters of Pilsley soul nights can I say that we would never advocate the playing of CD's and as far as possible (!) would always go with originals (Thought I would make this clear as Bazza has put Pilsley soul as the event he is affiliated to). Come and have a chat with us Bazza on the 19th !! "Event: Your regular must go to event or one that you are involved with" No I am not saying I am involved with it,but I do consider it my must go and never miss event I never miss it ,is that Barry or Chris cos you both know me Bazza- Original Vinyl Or Nothing
Hi Stu..you know I never miss it, love place love the atmosphere ,most of the the peeps that go are usually on the floor.allways worth a visit,I cant fault it ,good mixture of tunes oldies newies the odd modern tune ,something for every taste...what more can you want see you soon Stu Bazza- Original Vinyl Or Nothing
Hi Doug..yes it was a good night enjoyed it..i admit most of the stuff was new to me. i did nip down stairs for half an hour for a bit of a breather it was quite full,,what I was saying was I like to here (new to me stuff ) and I like to hear some of the old classics for different reasons the classics to dance to the newies to listen to ..if you get my drift Bazza - Dancing Or Acrobatics ( Floorwork )
