2009 looks gloomy as a well gloomy thing! I am determined to do my thing without it becoming a financial drama so tips n good to know stuff on here peeps......
Car sharing makes complete sense, I know there is a thread dedicated on here but the best thing to do is find out who's who n who's traveling near you.
Taking your own pop or drinks in is a bit naughty but I am not a big drinker but I will smuggle in the odd pop bottle as and when I can. It's not unknown for the Waffen Door staff to be a bit over zealous on this subject so leave the pop in the car and visit it through out the night.
What are your tips??

My treat was "It's bad you know" not sure who by? Dave Rivers played it at Middleton on the last night.

Cant do it Andy, she has threatened to cut my last remaining bollock off if I do a nighter that night, having lost the other due to an unfortunate barbed wire fence episode whilst in Northern Ireland, it swelled up to the size of a fookin space hopper !
I have decided to be a good boy and take the family to a soul do, if I can find one?
I may just end up having a blazing row with a well timed storm out followed by a tearful apology the next morning, after doing Wigan of course
So to save me nut and marriage can help me with a local soul do?
Spanner, when the fook have you ever stayed in????

Our lass won't let me d o a nighter new years eve!
I am looking for a soul night in the Mexborough - Rottherham - Doncaster - Sheffield kinda area for myself and my family to do the new years thing at, any suggestions?

I know that this will always be an emotive subject to the "Soul night crowd" but the soul night scene has become a pastiche of what was once a real hard corps under ground rare soul scene.
Some people have turned a scene into their version of "Tiffany's" or "Romeo's and Juliet's" it's as if all the naughty bits have been sieved through a silk sock leaving an almost commercially presentable by product that makes you cringe.
Remember how it once felt going out just as "Trev and Sharon" where on their way home with a bag of chips and a half drunk bottle of pale Ale? Remember that buzz you felt the very first time you heard that song that you now know back to front and inside out and available now on every other CD you buy from Ronco or Woolly's?
There is more to Northernsoul than dancing to "The Girl Across The Street - Moses Smith" whilst dodging uncle farty who is about to have a heart attack whilst taking out a table full of Bitter and Baby Sham during a suicidal spin!
Yup you can hear the same stuff heard at a nighter....... Eventually, and you can have a great time in the confines of a safe and secure working men's club but there is a fantastic time machine out there that will transport you back to the time when your spirit was adventurous and your ear was eager for the real soul experience.
Live a little ....................... drive the vauxhall cavalier!

Ian, you may have a stalker
This for me this is thee track that the big boys used to dance to when attending none Northernsoul discos to show their stomping prowess.
I remember Paddy and Kev smith (where are they now?) from Keyingham near Hull smashing the dance floors to this, they where jaw droppingly good dancers and regular casino goers, they where my inspiration to learn how to dance..... Still on that quest I'm afraid.
Ian a question, when was the last time you danced at a Northernsoul do? And what was it?
Thats not Ian by the way

Talking of tear stained, the last nighter I did I wore some very supporting white underpants. On my return home I had the biggest skid mark I have ever had the privilege to see, it's a bloke thing, chicks don't seam to care too much for skid marks, go figure? Well this one was actually in 3D!
For fear of our lass loosing it, I threw the ordnance survey mapped under crackers onto our wood burner, they are still alight now and kicking out the best warmth we have every enjoyed, mind you the area where we live is supposed to be a smokeless zone so no doubt we will get a bill in the new year!

What do you do to remember a venue or a slice of time that means a lot to you? We all know of the "Wigan brick" and we hear of people digging up turf from the various sporting venues.
As we see now days on the internet, Photobuckett, facebook and of course Soul Source, there are more and more photographs being aired for public display capturing memories of this very emotive time.
I for one have never taken a camera with me to a nighter for fear of loosing or damaging it, I am lucky enough to remember where I put my bag and car keys now days! It's a shame really because each time I meet some one and engage in conversation the murky clouds part in my memory banks and I get a short movie clip of long ago visited venues, my head is now like a badly damaged version of Youtube!
I wish I had a picture of myself and my mates setting off from Hull on the coach to go to Wigan Casino, I wish I had a decent memory of all of the wonderful Nighters I have done over the years.
On the 27th it will be the last Middleton at its present location, I am not bothered about any one else's view here but for me this is as important as the last farewell (or one of the) night of the Casino, I will be looking back with pride and looking forward with great anticipation.
I think I might dig a bit of the dance floor up, the little bit that I go mental on!
How do you remember your crazy daze?
