Gloria Jones - Tainted Love / My Bad Boy's Comin' Home - Repro
Release Date: April 2025
Gloria Jones recorded her hit single 'Tainted Love' in 1965, along with 'My Bad Boy's Comin' Home.' In 2025, we will celebrate the 60th anniversary of these two iconic records. To commemorate this milestone, we have relicensed the original records from Champion and are releasing a limited edition clear 'diamond' 7-inch vinyl, this release honours the anniversary theme. The original version of these records can sell for over £800, so this is a great opportunity to own one of only a thousand limited presses made. Comes in a picture sleeve with liner notes along with that limited 'diamond' coloured vinyl.
Back notes by Richard Searling
Back in 1973, I took a job as a warehouseman in Manchester UK - working at Global Records, back then the largest importer of American albums and 45s at that time. In the April of that year I was sent out to Philadelphia to search out hard-to-find Northern Soul 45s. On my second day there I was taken to a massive warehouse in Camden- 'House Of Sounds', a graveyard for millions of obscure 45s. We got into a huge industrial lift that took us down into the basement where hundreds of now-deleted 45s were stored on pallets, most of them covered in a thick layer of dust - previously untouched!
Before I reached them to begin digging. I almost trod on a 45 lying right outside the lift doors - it was the first record I picked up in the States. I recognised the artist's name straight away, but it would be a full two weeks later before I could listen to the disc back in the UK. I can still remember the thrill of dropping the needle on the record and getting such a buzz from the immediacy and the power of the production.
I knew straight away that this record was going be become my exclusive, my signature tune and would become an all-time Northern Soul classic at the various All-Night sessions I DJ'd at. And so it has proved to be!"
