Jazz FM’s “The Story of UK Soul” has been nominated for a coveted TRIC Award in the public vote ‘Factual’ category.

The 8-part landmark series, presented by Simon Phillips and produced in house, told the story of UK Soul from the 1960s to the present day covering Northern Soul, Lovers Rock, Acid Jazz and the Nu Soul sound of today.

The Story of UK Soul is a time capsule of the evolution of UK Soul featuring surprising stories, unique perspectives and never-before-heard anecdotes from the likes of Beverley Knight, Mica Paris, Courtney Pine, Emeli Sande, Omar, Chris Amoo, Jean-Paul “Bluey” Manick, Billy Ocean and Carl McIntosh.

The series also celebrated those instrumental in making the genre a success, including the legendary DJs Colin Curtis, Greg Wilson and Trevor Nelson, alongside record company owners and producers including Don-E and Eddie Piller.

In addition, the series metaphorically toured the country, acknowledging the contribution that performers have made across the United Kingdom, from Edinburgh to Rochdale and Wolverhampton, alongside the more recognised locations of Wigan and London. The Story of UK Soul is nominated alongside TV shows such as “Drive To Survive” (Netflix), “Beckham” (Netflix) and “Mr Bates v The Post Office” (ITV).

The eight-hour series can be listened to as a boxset for a limited time at https://planetradio.co.uk/jazz-fm/shows/the-story-of-uk-soul/ and votes can be cast at  https://poll-tric.org.uk/

Voting closes at 5pm on Friday 17th May, and the winner will be announced on 25th June 2024 at The TRIC Awards ceremony at Grosvenor House in Mayfair, London.
