Music enthusiasts devoted to the Detroit-inspired genre known as "northern soul" will flock from overseas for a first-of-its-kind celebration.
Detroit A Go Go will kick off in the city Oct. 18, start of a five-day festival with performers, DJs, talks and other happenings linked to the classic music called "the soundtrack of our lives" by the fest's English founder.
At least 300 fans from Britain alone are expected to make the pilgrimage for an event being promoted as a "Once In a Lifetime USA Soul Experience." Organizers have booked the entire Hotel St. Regis in Midtown for the occasion, and activities are scheduled at Bert's Warehouse Theatre, Northern Lights Lounge and the Motown Museum.
