Northern Soul Calendar 2020 - 50 Soulful Years has just been released and is out on the streets just in time for the Christmas period.
Introduction
Richard Searling passed on details to Soul Source and added... “its something I always wanted to do, the calendar can never be totally complete as we learn more each day, but I hope it documents history accurately and will be a valued companion throughout 2020...and beyond”
What it is
As you can see by the photos below, at first glance it's all as what you would expect, a 12 month calendar, the calendar is fronted by an introduction from Richard Searling which expands on the 50 years and history aspect of the calendar. Next to this introduction is his own Northern Soul Top 50 chart tagged as 'The sounds that shaped my life'
After the intro we get to the monthly pages. Each month has a page with a large northern related artist photo, and a page below listing all the days of the month below it, so far yep all fine and dandy and as said all as expected. However a closer look reveals that there is quite a bit of detailed info on each monthly display. And this is what lifts it above some of the normal 'scene' related projects that you may have seen before. A look at each monthly page tells the story.
At the top of the dates page, you will find a 'scene' quote, such as 'Wigan Casino member Spot remembering Betty Wright live...'. The days listing then follows and on each day notable soul related birthdays are listed. At the foot of the listings there's a brief artist information feature which ties in with the top of the page monthly artist photo.
