Enter the verification code

Does anyone know why, when using 'ask seller a question' option on ebay listings that you have to 'Enter the verification code' before you can submit a question?

Why do we have to do it??

As well as collecting vinyl, I also collect vintage hi-fi so I often have several questions to ask before I will consider placing a bid and it gets a bit tedious entering these bloody codes all the time.

cheers

Well, as the verification code is not text (it`s a picture) it cannot be read by machines, programs and the like. It is meant as a pretty foolproof method of verifying that you are a human and not some automated bot.
