August 31, 200915 yr Hello, I enjoyed it. Island was a great company until it all became too corporate. They were certainly brave with artist development etc. It's odd that it's a 50-year anniversary because I always think of Island Records as having a 30-year lifespan. Since Blackwell sold to PolyGram in 1989 it wasn't the same company any more. The same can be said of Motown and others of course. Island is just a brand name now. The other day I saw a copy of Stevie Wonder's Greatest Hits on Motown via Island / Def Jam Music Group from Universal (UMG) with a sticker on it saying "Island 50 years" or whatever. It's a wonder some stores don't rack it in the reggae section! Paul
