unique collection of 128 - 8 x 10
photographs from the original photo
archive of Mr. Al Abrams, the first
employee of what was to become Berry
Gordy, Jr.'s Motown Record Corporation.
Abrahms joined in 1959. Working
originally as National Promotion
Director, he ultimately became the
company's Director of Public Relations
during the label's glory years of
1964-67.
Included in the archive are rare candid
and behind-the-scenes photographs from
the historic Tamla-Motown Tour of the UK
and Europe in 1964. Every major Motown
artist is represented in this authentic
assemblage including Eddie Holland,
Barrett Strong, Marv Johnson, Brenda
Holloway, Smokey Robinson and the
Miracles, and scarce photographs of
Booker Bradshaw and Florence Ballard
from her career as an ABC Records solo
artist. Avid Motown collectors will
easily spot legends such as James
Jamerson of the Funk Brothers and
William "Mickey" Stevenson in several of
the images.
The grouping also includes rare
photographs of the famous 1964 "March on
Hitsville" by fans of Tommy Good, a
Northern Soul favorite, demanding that
Motown and Berry Gordy, Jr. release a
record by the popular white singer.
Some of the photos go back to 1959 and
precede the establishment of the Motown
label.
All of the photos are stamped on the
verso for authenticity as having
originated in Al Abrams' photo archive.
There are no photographs later than
1968.
Watermarks on photographs will not
appear on actual photographs.
