I sat down for dinner with the kids tonight and flicked on the radio, which was tuned to 6Music, to hear a gorgeous piece of gospel harmony by the Dixie Hummingbirds.

My 11 year old, who was very taken with it - but hadn't heard anything quite like it before - listened intently for a while, before asking "Is this barbershop soul?"

And the more I think about it, the more I think that he was probably right.........
