Little Carl Carlton...whatever happened

I vaguely remember a couple years ago on a northern web site that someone reported that Carl Carlton was destitute and begging on the streets of Detroit. Can anyone shed some light on the current whereabouts and welfare of this Northern legend. As our rare soul idols these days are rapidly passing on, I couldn't think of a better candidate for a live appearance at a major week ender. Remember Carl was only "a 12 year old wonder" when he started cutting records in Detroit, so still a relatively young man . Anyone have some info ?
