The Moments ‘Nine Times’ (All Platinum / UK / 1976 / M-) £4
(Just one of my very favourite records of all time — ’nuff said — lovely copy here… )
Deon Jackson ‘Love Makes The World Go Round’ / ‘You Said You Loved Me’ (Atlantic (black) / UK / 1965 / VG+) £12
( Lovely copy of a HUGE tune — absolutely stunning midpaced Northern Soul, so tough to find on this original black Atlantic UK press — some intro crackle which soon fades — could use a clean actually — been in storage here for years and years…. )
Major Lance ‘Follow The Leader’ / ‘Since You’ve Been Gone’ (Atlantic (red) / UK / 1969 / VG+) £15
( Another huge double-sider from The Major — this man’s voice was amazing — lovely copy again, just a few surface marks… )
The Soulmasters ‘Looking For You’ (Beach / USA / 1970s / Ex+) £4
( Great cover of the Garnet Mimms NS classic from East Orange, NJ — great copy…’Hold On’ on the flip also saw Northern Soul action…)
Jimmie Hightower ‘Bring Us Our Day’ (Campo International / USA / 1989 / VG+) £10
( Some surface marks and a little intro crackle here so I’ve half-priced it — if it was even Ex/+, I’d confidently slap £50 on this cos — believe me — it is extremely rare….tuff Modern Soul / Disco Funk dancer from Detroit which I’ve seen on many a French collector’s Want List down the years but have never actually been able to dig up before….reminds me of that kinda Jimmy Scott ‘Love Language’ groove, heavy bass + wonderful vocals = high dancefloor appeal…solid centre pressing too…very unusual in the ‘States as 99.99% of sevens pressed there are dinked…tiny edge warp on this too which d n a p in any way whatsoever… )
The Dells ‘Wear It On Our Face’ (Chess / UK / 1968 / VG) £6
( Such memories…must be one of the very first records I EVER heard at an NS do — in Chelmsley Wood, Birmingham around 1980 / 1981? Has always been a toughie on black UK Chess print…some audible intro crackle which quickly fades as soon as the music starts…very, very fair price here… )
9th Creation ‘Much Too Much’ / ‘Got My Baby Back’ (Hilltak / USA / 1979 / M-) £25
( Mur-dah to find…incredibly good Boogie / Modern Soul tune from the same group who also gave us the heavy ‘Bubble Gum’ track which was hugely sampled in Hip-Hop — this copy is unplayed….great, great topside and lovely midpacer on the flip… )
The Romeos ‘Mucho Soul’ / ‘Are You Ready For That’ (Loma / USA / 1960S / VG) £8
( This is the same group who gave us the Latin-ized Northern Soul biggie ‘Mon Petit Chow’ and on the same label comes this powerhouse double-sider — both excellent Club cuts with great keys, big brass stabs and a huge clarion call for the dancefloor — sadly this one is a bit ruff — plays great and loud but definitely has lots of surface marks so half-priced….2 top Club sides here… )
Anna King ‘The Big Change’ / ‘You Don’t Love Me Anymore’ (Ludix / USA / 1960s / Ex+) £50
( Massive NS / R&B / Popcorn mid-pacer from the lady who also gave us the huge ‘Mama’s Got A Bag Of Her Own’ on End and also did some great stuff on Smash (some of it produced by James Brown himself) — totally, totally infectious and brilliant 7” — love, love, LOVE the kooky keyboard solo two thirds of the way in — trust me, this is special…great girlie backing vox too…oh boy! )
Robert Parker ‘Let’s Go Baby (Where The Action Is)’ / ‘Barefootin’ (Nola / USA / 1966 / VG)
£12
( Taking you right, waaaaay back to the dawn of the Northern Soul scene — just so brilliant — both sides….some scuffs here and there so sensibly priced / graded… )
Edwin Starr ‘Don’t Tell Me I’m Crazy’ / ‘Who Is The Leader…’(Soul / USA / 1972 / VG+) £8
( Nice copy here of one of Edwin’s best tunes for me — few scuffs — no real problems here…great dancer — never fails to cheer me up when I hear the intro… )
Bill Doggett ‘Fat Back’ / ‘Si Si Sisco’ (Sue / USA / 1964 / M-) £5
( Top R&B / Jazz / Popcorn double-sider from ‘Big’ Bill Doggett — totally infectious Organ groovers and SO collectable on this immaculate USA imprint — with the OG ‘brooch’ label design issue too…wasn’t this label design once voted THE best label design ever? I think so…unplayed copy here…… )
( Northern Soul monster oldie — could use a good clean — been in storage for years and years here…. )
LPs:
Terry Callier ‘Fire On Ice’ (Elektra / UK / 1978 / Ex/Ex+) £6
( Stunningly-good TC album with ‘Be A Believer’ , ‘Holdin On’ and the lovely ‘African Violet’ — what a truly great artist this guy really was…just buy it…!! Richard Evans and The Mizells are strongly involved so we’re all in safe hands anyways…sleeve has a price sticker on it which I’m not gonna try and remove — wax is immaculate… )
Mel Carter ‘Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me’ (Imperial / USA / 1966 / Ex/M-) £5
( Was sealed when I got it — opened it up to check the wax — A1…slight split to bottom seam — just from storage…never had / seen this LP before? Great voice Mel had — some cracking dancers, midtempos, ballads on here like ‘‘Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me’ , ‘I Need You Now’ , ‘Wanted’ etc etc… )
Blaze ’25 Years Later’ (Motown / UK / 1990 / M-/M-) £6
( It ain’t always about the ‘rares’ here @ Resolution HQ, we also like to offer good quality, less obscure stuff from time to time too…remember this one? I do — like it was yesterday…well, 22 years ago — where did those 22 years go? Search me…this LP caused a great stir when it came out — such amazing musicianship, arrangements, production values — stunning, stunning LP from one of THE best production crews of all time — and I mean that sincerely — these guys are just incredibly good….’Lover Man’ , ‘Gonna Make It Work’ , ‘So Special’ — stunning LP — not a bad track on it…New Jersey’s finest………..immaculate copy of a gilt-edged album… )
