I hope the moderator of this forum doesn’t mind me adding something about my favourite soul lady, Miss Sundray Tucker, also known as Cindy Scott, who of course is fairly well known here on the Northern scene.
My interest in Sundray’s music began in the mid-1990’s when she used to tour the UK regularly as a member of “The Former Ladies of The Supremes.” Although Sundray was never a member of the Supremes herself, she came close when she auditioned for the group in 1972, following the departure of Cindy Birdsong. The vacant spot was eventually taken by Sundray’s sister Lynda Laurence.
So what started off as being a fan follower of “The Former Ladies” and with Sundray’s voice in particular, led me to contact Sundray in 1998 with a view to record a solo album. I had never set foot in a recording studio before. All I had was a knowledge of music and a distinct vision of what I wanted to hear. Much to my surprise, Sundray said yes and the resulting album, The Loving Country, was released the following year to favourable reviews and a 4 and a half star rating at Allmusic.
Roll on 14 years and 3 albums later, Sundray’s latest release - a remix compilation entitled “Loved Up: The Remix Project” is now available to buy exclusively at
This new album took over 5 years to record and was a true labour of love for me, featuring rediscovered and previously unheard vocal takes. A showcase of Sundray’s amazing voice.
