Modern/northern/group/crossover/funky 45’s

*HOLD* Paul Jones - Let her love grow / If love could be with us all - JAB / VG+ / £375 (Super rare Chicago disc and a fabulous double header! Funky modern soul dancer backed with sublime crossover. Reversed labels. Vinyl has some light marks, plays well but not perfect.)

Right Direction - Midnight rhythm - Antaries / VG / £225 (KILLER modern soul, one of my all time favourites and a oh so rare Chicago disc. This copy, as with the few others I’ve seen, is pretty beat up. It plays with some light surface noise and light pops in mostly present in the intro then clears out nicely. Still an enjoyable listening and fine for DJing. Soundfile is the actual copy for sale.)

Haywood Tucker - I'm yours - Budweiser Showdown / EX/EX / £175 (Killer modern soul dancer from this Atlanta, Georgia artist. Slight warp not affecting play.)

Veda Brown - I had a fight with love - Rav / VG- / £150 (The rare version of the Ann Sexton album track. A superb crossover dancer! Vinyl has many light marks, plays with light surface noise in the intro because clearing out nice. Still presents a very enjoyable listening and is fine for DJing etc.)

Philharmonics - I need, I need your love - Soulin / EX / £80 (Popular crossover soul with that killer intro!)

Tams - This precious moment - Sounds South / EX / £70 (Superb modern dancer, yellow label version.)

Marian Love - Can't forget about you, baby - Capitol / EX / £50 (Superb copy of this evergreen soul floater.)

Betty LaVette - You made a believer out of me - Epic / VG+ / £40 (Superb floater! Just shy of EX with a few sleeve marks not affecting play.)

Natural High - That's why - Malaco / EX / £35 (Issue only, non album cut and a popular midtempo dancer.)

Hott Snow - Do it / Let nature take its course - R'Cade / VG+ / £30 (Very cool midtempo soul backed with funky disco.)

Johnny Moore - Just be for real - Brunswick / EX / £30 (White demo in company sleeve.)

Willard King - Lady be mine - Capitol / EX / £25 (Popular crossover.)

*HOLD* B.W. & the Next Edition - Chosen one / Work, work, work - Brunswick / EX / £25 (Quite a rare issue with the issue only crossover dancer "Chosen one". Seen at £100 elsewhere. Flip has a small round white sticker.)

*1 COPY LEFT* Donny Beamont - Don't make me go now - Mercury / EX / £20 (Superb under the radar midtempo dancer. Issue only! Same backing as George & Sonny Sands "Down By The Ocean")

Nytro - Make it - Whitfield / EX / £20 (Great modern soul dancer only available on rare issue copies)

Purple Reign - Love shortage - Buddah / EX / £8 (Same song as the T.U.M.E. track that is now expensive. I prefer this one, and it's still cheap. Such a feelgood dancer!)

Anglo-Saxon Brown - Straighten it out - Atlantic / EX / £8 (Unbelievably good mellow groove out of Philly. Epic stuff!)

Richmond Extension - Let's get into something - Polydor / EX / £6 (Van McCoy magic and a firm personal fave. Much better than the David Ruffin version. Great copy which comes in company sleeve.)

Eli's Second Coming - Love chant Pt 1 / Pt 2 - Silver Blue / EX / £6 (Superb one off their hard to find album. Rarer vinyl copy, label has a small round white sticker.)

Soul Albums

Septimus - We want a piece of the pie - Chosen Few / EX/EX / £250 (Tough independent disco/modern soul album. Holds but dancers and slowies, all with heavy basslines. As new copy still in shrink.)

Willie & the Mighty Magnificents — Very soulful — All Platinum / EX/VG+ / £225 (Super rare follow up to their On Scene ’70 album. Somewhat of a ghost record, can’t even find a trace of a copy being sold online, and hardly a mention of an original copy. With “Get away from me girl” alternative version to the Willie & West one, “Sunday” etc. Cover has light ring wear.)

100% Pure Poison - Coming right at you - EMI / EX/EX / £200 (Rare groove classic! Tiny sticker on back.)

*HOLD* Rayfield Reid & the Magnificents - Treat you right - Ken-Tone / EX/EX / £200 (Superb album! Cover in shrink, vinyl as new only flaw is upper right corner is a bit wavy probably due to exposure to water. Still looks super clean!)

Fillmotions - Young girls in motion - Young Girl / EX/EX / £125 (As new copy still in shrink of this rare Cali album.)

United States Navy Port Authority Soul Band - The Navy, together - [no label] / EX/NM / £60 (Obscure album with covers of Donny Hathaway, Deodato and others. Includes the Beginning of the End-ish “Can’t get up if you can’t get down” which is a killer! As new copy still in shrink.)

J.P. Rodgers Jr. - Good taste in love - Incalculation / EX / £50 (1982 modern soul album which was released in a generic 12 inch sleeve. With the modern soul/disco dancers “All my lovin” and “I enjoy your love”.)

Clifton Dyson - Slow your body down - After Hour / EX/NM / £50 (As new copy in shrink, first press original. With the modern dancer “I’m giving up” and the superb slowie “Hypnotize” which was also made by Ci Ci on Creative Funk 45 + 12”.)

Donna & Andrew Best - It’s never too late - McCartney-Brown / EX/EX / £40 (Rare modern soul album out of Canada. With “Mister Conductor” etc)

Holiday Express - Lady in the rain - South Eastern / EX/EX / £30 (Rare Island funk with the crossover soul type title track. And a curious version of "Take five". Back has been signed by the group members.)

The Best of Both Worlds - I want the world to know - Calla / EX/VG / £20 (1975 modern soul album with Winfield Parker on lead vocals. Standout track for me is “Lost in a shuffle of love”. Cover has ring wear and a 3cm upper seam split.)

Juggy Murray Jones - Inside America (Disco) - Jupiter Jazz / EX/VG+ / £20 (Cover just shy of EX, has a few light dirt stains on lower front cover and name and date written on back with a ballpoint pen.)

Demo Cates - Memories of moments - Scorpio /  VG+/VG+ / £15 (Cover has price written, light general wear, middle seam split and creased corner. Still looks neat. Vinyl is clean but has some light marks from being taken in and out of the sleeve. With the lovely title track 2 stepper + the even smoother “Will I see her again”.)
