Hi and welcome to the July 2016 list. A short list is better than no list. I scraped together a few mostly obscure but nice 45’s together with both cheap and rare modern soul classics.
There’s a few albums too, mostly cheap major labels one including excellent two step tracks but also a couple of rarities in Pin Points and Betty Padgett.
PM to reserve!
For those who prefer the music free I have uploaded my daytime set from the Stockholm Soul Weekender which took place in June.
Norris Vines & the Luvlines - Give in - Smile / EX / £650 (Very clean copy of this Canadian modern soul classic! Such a feel good tune. Comes complete with company sleeve. Label has promo stamp.)
Karizma - Magic lady / Will you dance with me? - FRP / EX / £275 (Lovely double header from Melvin Winn of Trace Of Smoke-fame. A-side is a great , quirky boogie dancer and flip is a lovely 2 stepper.)
Eddie Billups & the C.C.C.’s - Shake off that dream - Gar-Pax / VG+ / £150 (Classic modern soul! Here in the later, funkier version. And on Gar-Pax white demo, not on the more commonly seen Helpp label. Vinyl has a few light marks but plays well.)
G.C. Cameron - Wait till tomorrow - Jamila / EX / £125 (Great modern soul dancer from one of my fave artists. Usually seen on UK Ardent, the US original is quite rare. Clean label, most copies around have the address scratched out.)
G.C. Cameron - No matter where - Motown / EX / £15 (Killer version of the David Ruffin song. Recorded around the same time and with the same people involved as Sisters Love “Give me your love” cover. Highly recommended!)
Ken Allison / Harvey Allison Experience feat the Whole Truth - Freedom (sweet) freedom / This is our love story - Truth Is! / EX / £40 (Two lovely slowies on an obscure 45.)
Billy Cole - Bump all night / Extra careful - Recreational and Educational / EX / £35 (Classic double header. Clubby soul backed with a more grown up sounding modern midtempo tune. Jamaican release, here in the white label red plus black text variation. Label has name written on it with filt pen.)
Bay Brothers - Baby don’t give up / Magic in her love - Millenium / EX / £30 (Super rare issue copy with different flipside. Lovely modern soul slowie. Comes in company sleeve, b-side has three X’s written with a ball point pen.)
Jeff Perry - Honest baby / Unforgettable person - Arista / EX / £12 (Two killer sides from Jeffree! White label stock copy complete with company sleeve.)
Betty Padgett - s/t - Alwa / EX/EX / £300 (With the clubby dancers “Sugar daddy” Parts 1 and 2. Such a feelgood uplifting song, both version are great. Vinyl and cover in lovely condition but there’s a light inaudible scratch on “Sugar daddy part 2”.)
Pin Points - No dressing - Pin Points Music / EX/VG+ / £90 (Washington D.C. album with the sublime slowies “Rainbow smiles” and “Love is”. There’s also a Last Poets styled rap/poetry track in “That dope”. Cover has slight ring wear but seams etc are intact.)
Dan Penn - Nobody’s fool - Bell / VG/VG+ / £60 (Rare solo effort by this legendary songwriter. Promo copy. Label has writing. Cover looks great but has a upper seam split around 5cm that has not really opened up yet. Vinyl has light scattered marks. The track “Ain’t no love” plays with the occasional crackle but overall quite ok, rest of the tracks plays fine.)
Mystic Merlin - Full moon - Capitol / VG+/EX / £18 (With the boogie classic “Mr magician” and the superb two stepper “Your love”. Vinyl has a few sleeve marks, plays great.)
Peggy Scott & Jo Jo Benson - Nothing can stand in our way - GCS / EX/EX / £15 (Promo copy of this modern soul album including the album only 2 step track “Love is what you make it”. Cover has cut corner and a distribution sticker.)
Clifford Coulter - The better part of me - Columbia / VG+/VG+ / £15 (Classic two step album. With “Love’s too hot to hide” and the slightly faster “Don’t wanna see you cry”. White promo copy, back has gold promo stamp. Album has a little general and edge wear. Vinyl has a few sleeve marks, plays well.)
Denise LaSalle - Here I am again - Westbound / EX/EX / £8 (With the superb title track! “Married, but not to each other” is a great slowie with a southern soul feel.)
Bar-Kays - Nightcruising - Mercury / EX/VG+ / £6 (Including the all-time great 2 step track “Feels like I’m falling in love”. Cover just shy of EX with a lower ring wear.)
