Lee Fields “We Fought For Survival” (Festival) VG- £500
Hard-as-nails funk behemoth. Arguably his rarest and best. Sounds like Showbiz and Lord Finesse if they had been making records in 1969. (Plays strong / wol / light ringwear / slight “swoosh” on intro, check clip) We Fought For Survival
Shirley Johnson “Too Big To Cry / Inst.” (LaShawn) strong VG £900
Rarity alert! Huge northern spin, and a recent cover up for the top few DJs on the all-nighter circuit. A copy sold on one of Manship’s auctions for over £1300 a while back in similar condition. (Dish not affecting play / some ringwear on instrumental side) Too Big To Cry
Carl Hall "Mean It Baby / You Don't Know Nothing About Love" (Loma) G+/VG £25
Classic northern with deep flip. (Northern side is compromised by large scratch, plays surprisingly well though, please check clip before ordering. Ballad side is is strong VG to VG+ and labels are clean.) Mean It Baby You Don't Know
Great Pride “She’s A Lady” (MGM white demo) VG++ £40
Opens with a drum break and goes into awesome downtempo reverbed-out funky soul with hip-hop appeal. Not terribly easy to find. (Nice clean copy, mono/stereo / two tiny, discreet red spots on mono side) She's A Lady
Lawrence Carroll’s Peoples Band “One Hundred Years From Now” (Raina) VG+ £75
Moody instrumental funk with flavour. One Hundred Years From Now
Natural Love “Goodbye My Love” (RSP) VG++ £25
Late 70s-sounding harmony ballad. (Looks clean but a slightly noisy pressing) Goodbye My Love
The Book Of Life “I Don’t Know You / Love Will Rise” (Sonstar) VG £25
Lovely modern dancer from Michael Orr. Plays well, clean labels. (Sounds good overall with click just before music starts, ballad flip is more like VG-) I Don't Know You Love Will Rise Bardo Martinez “Bad Education / Inst.” (Timmion) M- / M- £6
Possibly the best new release of the year to date – dancefloor fire with a message that comes highly recommended. (With picture sleeve and obi strip) Bad Education
Mugo “Organize / Space Travel” (United World) solid VG £40
Powerful ‘70s breakbeat funk from DC. (Very small warp not affecting play) Organize Space Travel
