Modern Soul 45’s
Starfire – Make the most of it – Dynamic Artists / EX / £250 (Promo copy of this great modern soul track, LP is frequently seen for sale, this 45 is much much rarer.)
Rainbow Brown – It ain’t no big thing / Till you surrender – Vanguard / EX / £150 (Two classic Patrick Adams sides from 1981. This issue copy is not classic though, second copy I’ve ever seen. Demos with “Till you surrender” on both sides is the one that usually turns up.)
Eddie Billups & the C.C.C.’s – Shake off that dream – Gar-Pax / VG+ / £125 (White demo of this classic modern soul dancer. The later more modern re-mix here of course. Vinyl has jukebox swirls but play ok.)
Ron Keith – Gotta go by what you tell me / Party music – A&M / EX/EX / £120 (Killer modern soul! Very scarce japanese copy here, complete with picture inlay and company sleeve. And vinyl whilst the US release is on styrene. Flip is a nice version of the Pat Lundy track.)
Midwest Franchise – I’ll be around / I can make it all right – Mca / EX / £120 (Lovely 1976 modern soul dancer. Here on the very rare issue copy with a nice ballad flip. As new copy complete with company sleeve.)
Innervision – Gotta find a way to get back home / I just want to love you – Ariola America / EX / £60 (Classic feel good modern soul, backed with a very soulful slowie. Harder issue copy, complete with company sleeve.)
Ice – Reality / Hey, hey – Ice / EX / £40 (Fresh off the presses reissue of this major modern soul dancer via Backatcha Records. Withdrawn due to the band selling licensing off it twice, I have three copies I purchased before it was taken down. With lookalike label and great sound quality.)
Carl Graves – Brown skin love – A&M / VG+ / £6 (Absolutely killer mellow groove. And not on label despite what the label states. Record has a few light marks but plays well.)
Pinkertones feat. Eddie Gross – It’s not the way you walk / It’s not who you are – Queen-G / EX / £160 (Two great 1969 sides, one dancer and one midtempo. Used to be way more expensive until a few copies turned up.)
Cruisers – Mink and sable mable / Picture us – Gamble / EX / £90 (White demo of this fantastic crossover dancer now finally getting big. Flip is a great sweet soul ballad. Label has some very faint and partial smeary red color. Still looks good!)
Ernie Johnson – Big man cry – Steph and Lee / EX / £90 (Classic 1978 crossover dancer. This is the far rarer 8667 numbered issue which had Jewel Record Corp distribution. Small felt pen mark on label.)
Johnny Jones & the King Casuals – Purple haze – Brunswick / EX / £80 (Classic stomping NS dancer! Peachtree/William Bell recording, and of course a Jimi Hendrix cover. Nice clean copy complete with company sleeve, flipside has a small round sticker.)

Lost Generation – You only get out of love / Pretty little angel eyes – Brunswick / EX / £60 (Scarce issue copy of this killer double header which is 45 only. Feel good dancer backed with a midtempo version of the song also made by Jackie Wilson.)
Generation – Hold on – Mockingbird / EX / £60 (Lovely blue eyed soul dancer and a true NS classic. As new copy but “The lonely sea” side has a tiny label mark.)
Apollas – Nobody’s baby (Am I) / Just can’t get enough of you – Loma / VG+ / £35 (Superb floating 1965 Ashford & Simpson sound with an uptempo flipside. Record has a few light marks, plays ok.)
Kool Blues– Can We Try Love Again / I Want To Be Ready – Numero/Disk Union / NM/NM / £30 (High quality japanese reissue of this fantastic Ohio crossover soul dancer, flip is a great ballad. With picture insert of the group, cleaned up sound quality and a pressing limited to 500 copies.)
Patti Austin – Are we ready for love / Jimmy Fraser – Of hopes and dreams and tombstones – Epic / EX / £25 (Since long out of print reissue of two popular NS dancers. Red A style demo labels.)
Peaches – Baby think it over / Music to my ears – Constellation / EX / £20 (Very clean white demo copy, two charming 1966 girl group NS dancers. One side written by Barrett Strong, both sides produced by Carl Davis and Gene Chandler.)

Larks – Lost my love yesterday / The answer came to late – Money / EX / £125 (Two amazing sides on a very elusive 45. Rarely turns up and if it does in very poor condition.)
Allison & Calvin Turner – Yeah, memories – Checker / EX / £100 (Perhaps the Turner Brothers best 45, just an amazing ballad. Clean issue copy complete with company sleeve.)

Notations – What more can I say / Leading lady – C.R.A. / EX / £90 (Killer double header. Came out in 1973 between their Twinight and Gemigo releases. “Leading lady” side has a neat stain from H2O exposure.)
Masqueraders – Let me show the world – Stairway / EX / £70 (Another winner by this fantastic group, this is a slow group harmony cut. Very hard to find in this clean condition.)
Eddie Jefferson – Uh oh (I’m in love again) / I don’t want you anymore – Stax / EX / £70 (Clean white demo of these two excellent lowrider type of sounds.)
Otisettes – Sitting alone (In my lonely room) – Epic / EX / £60 (Orange label copy of this killer dreamy feel ballad. Only tucked away at the b-side of the scarce issue copies, demos came without this side.)

Mad Dog & the Pups – Please don’t let me go – Magic City / VG+ / £20 (Killer Detroit group soul. Record has a small rather sharp warp that might require an extra 0,5-1 gram of weight on some players, plays fine on my Technics 1210 with Shure M44G cartridge set at 2gr.)
Lanier – Blinded (By the qualities of you) / 25 hours – Clarence Music / EX / £300 (Epic disco on a cult 12. Flipside is a nice midtempo modern soul dancer.)
Blair – Nightlife – Solar Sound / S/S / £200 (Still sealed copy of this classic disco cut. Minimal wear to the bottom seam at the lower right corner, where the pvc plastic has opened somewhat.)
Direct Drive – Your love and mine / Toat-Lee Bluz – Be my lady – Starstream/Budweiser Showdown / EX/EX / £100 (One of the rarer and more sought after Bud 12 releases. A-side is a pop-ish boogie dancer but the flipside steals the show for me, an awesome and quirky 80’s ballad.)
