CODY BLACK: Because You First Love me / The Night A Star Was Born * GROOVE CITY, M-, 200.- Euro
Super clean copy of this excellent Detroit double header, a record, that rarely comes to market. Midtempo magic topped with the gritty voice of Cincinnati born Cody Black, who moved to Detroit as a youngster and recorded some of the motor city's most remarkable sides. Soulmusic with a capital "S" and a big favourite in my house.
LITTLE RON JOHNSON: I Keep Telling You * HARD TIMES, Vinyl VG++, labels water damaged, 200.- Euro
A Vibrato-Guitar sets the tone for one of the most distinguished soul sounds on the scene today. Soulful to the max and a beat, that it's hard to resist. Shame about the labels, which are really badly water damaged, but hey, it's in the grooves what counts and this copy is shiny and clean on the vinyl side. Sold for twice as much on an auction recently.
LEE McDONALD: Gotta Get Home / Show Me * DEBBIE, M-, 75.- Euro
Outstanding Modern Soul stepper from 1979. Top side is on the rare LP by Lee McDonald a s well, but the 7" provides a different compared to the LP-take. Flip it over for a beautiful slow jam.
DEBBIE S.: Try My Love * FLAMING ARROW, M-, 60.- Euro
Flawless copy (except the weird label cut off) of this amazing Detroit mellow groover. Super soulful vocals and a dreamy two-step arrangement. Highly recomended!
MEMPHIS BLACK: Why Don't You Play The Organ Man / Hang 'Em High * ASCOT, VG++, 60.- Euro
Heavy heavy organ funk with a very unique sound and the guy behind this little banger is Ingfried Hoffman, a german organ player, who played mainly behind such jazz greats as Klaus Doldinger, Rolf Kuehn and Attila Zoller.
JOHN WILLIAMS & THE TICK TOCKS: Do Me Like You Do Me / Blues Tears And Sorrows * TOU-SEA, promo, Mislabeled, the label for "Blues, Tears..." sticks on both sides, but it plays "Do Me..." on one side, 50.- Euro, on hold
Priced down for being mislabeled, otherwise stone mint. Great New Orleans soul on either side. The uptempo dancer "Do Me..." is a Northern Soul favourite and the ballad side "Blues, Tears And Sorrow" is Deep Soul at it's finest.
TOMMY BRYANT: I Wanna Come Home To You Baby * T-NECK, promo, M-, 40.- Euro
Totally underrated Northern Soul dancer on the Isley Brother's owned label. Uptempo, soulful and produced to perfections by the Isleys. I've never seen an issue of this and I doubt, that they exist. Anyway, great uptempo 60's soul for the dancefloor.
RAW SPITT: That Ain't My Wife (That I See) / Songs To Sing * UNITED ARTISTS, promo, VG++, 40.- Euro
Legendary deep soul double sider produced by Jerry Williams aka Swamp Dogg. The vocals are by Charles Whitehead and no matter what side you put the needle on, you get the deepest most emotional soulmusic ever made. This copy has a spot on the vinyl, that seems to be a pressing flaw, it doesn't sound, so you shouldn't be to worried about it. But you hear very light surface noise on the quite intro. Check the soundfiles, before ordering!
FREDDIE HUBBARD feat JEANNIE TRACY: You're Gonna Lose Me * FANTASY, M-, 40.- Euro
Mindblowing good jazzy Modern Soul stepper featuring the vocals of Jeannie "Making New Friends" Tracy. Flawless copy here and simply way to good to ignore.
TYRONE ST. GERMAN: In A World So Cold / Don't Cop No Attitude * MORNING DOVE, M-, 30.- Euro
One of these records, that got played as a new release in the UK and ever since never really got pulled out of collections for a revival - it's time me thinks! And if not for the ultra soulful "In A World So Cold"-side, then try the more uptempo flip for a completely ignored 1977 goodie. Oakland / Cali soul from the top shelf and finding a cleaner copy then this beauty here, is impossible. Stone mint and soulful to the max!
J.J. WILLIAMS: Love Market * POLYDOR, Made in Australia, M-, 30.- Euro
A Clayton Ivey production from 1974, not easy to find as a US release, but really hard to track down as an Aussie issue and this copy comes complete with an Australian company sleeve!
SAM "IRONING BOARD" MOORE: I Laugh / This Is A New Day * SANSU, M-, 30.- Euro
Keyboarder and singer 'Ironing Board Sam' was a travelling musician, who got his nickname from a gig, where no keyboard rack was available and he used an ironing board for replacement. In the mid seventies he stranded in New Orleans and recorded for Allen Toussaint some remarkable 45s. This offering has two great super soulful 70's soul sides.
VARIOUS: Tamla Motown Promo, TAMLA MOTOWN PSR 352, Made in the UK, VG+, 40.- Euro
Tracklist:
DETROIT SPINNERS: We'll Have It Made
AL KENT: Ooo Pretty Lady
EDDIE KENDRICKS: Girl Ypou Need A Change Of Mind
WILLIE HUTCH: Slick
UK promo 4-track EP, hard to find nowadays and packed with Motown classics. Side two has a few visible marks, but plays like a champ. Side 1 is a very solid EX+.
CHARLES WRIGHT & THE WATTS 103rd STREET RHYTHM BAND: Express Yourself * WARNER BROS., VG++, 30.- Euro
The ultimate club funk tune and a must for every DJ! Tring to find this as clean as this baby here is like finding a needle in a hairstack. Plenty of trashed copies on the net, but no nice ones for a fair price, so here is your chance!
THE TOPICS: Try A Little Love / All Good Things Must End * HEAVY DUTY, M-, 30.- Euro
Interesting credits on this superb 70's dancer. Published by Fania in New York for Harvey Averne's production team, but surely no latin vibes on this two sided gem. A great and underrated dancer and a mighty fine group harmony side by the mighty Topics, who recorded some of the most collectable 45s during the 60's and 70's. A proper soul record!
DENNIS COFFEY & THE LYMAN WOODARD TRIO: It's Your Thing / River Rouge * MAVERICK, VG++ to M-, 25.- Euro
Banging funk double sider by Detroit's session guitar slingerv Dennis Coffey backed by The Lyman Woodard Trio. Of the many "It's Your Thing"-covers, this is my favourite!
AARON NEVILLE: All These Things / She's On My Mind * BELL, promo, M-, 25.- Euro
Nola magic on both sides by the big guy Aaaron Neville, blessed with a voice beyond compare. No, this is not for the dancefloor or something to impress your friends with; it's just mindblowing good soulmusic.
DIAMOND JOE: Hurry Back To Me / Don't Set Me Back * SANSU, promo, M-, 25.- Euro
One of the finest vocalists coming from the crescent city going by the name of Diamond Joe. The guy is a mystery and little is known except his legacy of seven great 45s with this two Allen Touissant productions are no exception. One side superb uptempo and the flipside has an amazing stop-and-go-arrangement with belting vocals by the man. So much better then most of the four figure rarities.
ERNIE SHELBY: Punish Me / Bend Over Backwards * POLYDOR, M-, mild storage warp, 25.- Euro
Polydor's A&R man for soulmusic definitely had good taste, some great records came out on this major label. Most of them didn't sell at all and are highly collectable these days. Especially the issues, that in many cases have the better track on it then the mono/stereo promos. Here we have an overlooked Muscle Shoals production co-written by Phillip Mitchell (flipside is co-written by George Soule, who also played drums on both sides) and produced by Clayton Ivey and Terry Woodford. Two stunning southern soul sides by a guy, who only released six 45s in his career
SOULFUL JEB STUART: (Gonna Keep On Dancin') Cause I Got Soul / You're Mine * GREAT AMERICAN, M-, 25.- Euro
Two great uptempo Florida soul sides by Jeb Stuart, a Memphgis born veteran of the R&B scene, who relocated to Florida in the late 60's and fromed his own label "Great American".
DIAMOND JOE: The ABC Song / Look Way Back * DEESU, promo, M-, 25.- Euro
Excellent, hard hitting Nola funky soul produced by Allen Touissant and Marshall Sehorn. Diamond Joe recorded some fabulous 60's side for Sansu records and is surely one of the most underrated vocalists from the the Big Easy. Flip it over and you see what I mean; facemelting deep soul by Joseph Maryland aka "Diamond Joe". A truly gifted singer; a rough edged, fast moving soul. He was possessed of a gruff baritone that could move from a growl to the most subtle whisper within a few minutes of music. He died homeless in 2010 in his hometwon New Orleans and only recorded seven 45s and every single one is as good as this here.
HANK BALLARD with the DAPPS: How You Gonna Get Respect * KING, VG++, 20.- Euro
I recently had a disciussion with a well known DJ and we agreed, that James Brown was the boss, when it comes to funk. We where both surprised, that his huge body of work isn't as much appreciated as it should be and DJs seem to prefer lesser known, rarer records for playing out. If you need a proof how incredible good he was, in this case as a producer, just click the soundbyte and get blwon away!
DIFFERENT SHADES OF BROWN: Life's A Ball (While It Lasts) / Label Me Love * TAMLA, VG++, 15.- Euro
Big produced double sider from 1972. One midtempo side and slow ballad with breathtaking good vocal harmonies. Super clean copy with only a tiny surface mark on the "Label Me Love"-side. Comes with it's original Tamal distribution sleeve.
GENERAL CROOK: Gimme Some * DOWN TO EARTH, M-, 15.- Euro
Super clean copy of this hard hitting Chicago Funk. What a great record and I was surprised, how cheap it is, when I tried to figure out a price. Sounds like three figures to my ears!
ANNA KING: If You Don't Think / Make Up Your Mind * SMASH, VG++, 15.- Euro
Wonderful James Brown production with an uptempo side, that belongs surely in the history of one of the first "funky" records keeping in mind, that it's from 1964. Record has some styrene distortion in parts! Flip it over for a great deep soul hurter.
SIDNEY JOE QUALLS: How Can You Say Goodbye I Enjoy Loving You * DAKAR, M-, 12.- Euro
Both taken from his excellent "I Enjoy Loving You" LP with "How Can You Say Goodbye" being a long time favourite of mine. Al Green like vocals paired with an outstanding Carl Davis production, what's not to like?
S.O.U.L.: This Time Around * MUSICOR, VG+, with a kind of stress crack, 10.- Euro
Bargain copy of this classy 70's Northern Soul dancer. As you can see in the picture on the label, there's a kind of stress crack starting at the spindle hole, but not going to the playing surface. On the vinyl side it looks like hairline and it does not affect play. If you treat this record right, it will stay in this condition. Half price for a great playing record and surely a bargain for someone.
PHILLY CREAM: Motown Review * FANTASY WMOT, M-, 10.- Euro, on hold
Uptempo feel-good-modern with some nice nostalgic lyrics... "There's no more Motown revue and the Beatles have broken up too". This made it on one of the Kent compilations and the Ingram-Brothers with some Len Barry involvement, are behind this 1979 dancer.
WALTER JACKSON: Easy Evil * BRUNSWICK, promo, wol, M-, 10.- Euro
No better way to end the list with the undenyable talents of Walter Jackson, a handicapped singer from Chicago. "Easy Evil" is overshadowed by "Let Me Come Back", Walter's first Brunswick release, but is nothing less then outstanding in terms of soulfulness. Highly recomended cheapo!
To order: PM me . Records will be reserved on a strict first come, first served basis.
New postage rates!
No matter how big your order is, 7.- Euro flat unless you want registered postage!
I recomend registration for all orders over 50.- Euro for additional cost of 3.- Euros.
The list is not really sorted, so you find Funk, next to Northern and R&B next to Modern. Prices are in Euro!!!

LITTLE CHARLES & THE SIDEWINDERS: Please Open Up The Door * RED SANDS, VG+, 10.- Euro
