I recomend registration for all orders over 50.- Euro for additional cost of 3.- Euros.

The list is not really sorted, so you find Funk, next to Northern and R&B next to Modern. Prices are in Euro!!!

Grading: Goldmine grading system - M- / VG++/ VG+ / VG / VG- etc.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

DAVE BRADY AND THE STARS: Ridin' High * DARBY, VG to VG+, 500.- Euro

Rare local Minneapolis 60's uptempo dancer and a cover of the 1966 Impressions release "Ridin' High". This would fit very well in a progressive Northern Soul set, file under "Rare and underplayed". This copy has mild marks only and plays like a champ.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/davebradyridinhigh.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

HELENE SMITH: Sure Thing / True Love Don't Grow On Trees * DEEP CITY, VG++ / Excellent, 400.- Euro

Rare 60's Miami Soul dancer on top side and a mighty fine ballad on the flip. Clarence Reid is the man behind the work of Helene Smith and all of her records are hard to find and worth hunting down. Very clean copy with only the slightest blemishes, most dealers woul grade this M.-.

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/helenesmithtruelove.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

RIKKI AARON: Say What's On Your Mind * R.A.C., M-, 375.- Euro, sold

Great and rare 70's soulful dance record from Bristol/Connecticut with lead vocals by Dave Watson. A former cover-up for some top UK-DJs and surely a sound with a lot of milleage in the grooves. You might ask yourself why there is no artist name on the label, well, this came out with a picture sleeve and "Rikki Aaron" was printed on the sleeve. Obviously the sleeve is much rarer than the record and this copy comes without the picture sleeve, but you get extra clean vinyl and that's what matters.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/rikkiaaronsaywhatsonyour.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

LEW KIRTON: Heaven In The Afternoon * ALSTON, promo, VG+, tiny crack in the run in grooves, nap, 100.- Euro, sold

The mother of all 70's soul dancers coming from Henry Stone's TK-Imperium. A dancefloor pleasing classic, that needs no introduction. This copy has tiny edge chip and a half cm crack going down from there into the run-in-grooves and touching the first few rotations of the playing surface. Totally inaudible and without the mini crack this copy would grade ex.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/lewkirtonheavenin.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

RAY CRUMLEY: I Want To Be A Part Of You / Good Guys Don't Always Win * ALARM, VG++, sticker and wol on lbl flipside, 75.- Euro, sold

Culpable ignorance by DJs for this classy record. An uptempo cover of a Bobby Patterson tune, that is catchy as hell. Ray Crumley was a member of the Solid Gold Revue, who recorded a highly collectable LP and a great 45 on Castanet records. Flipside is a cover of a Sam Dees album track also recorded by Windy City on Innovation II and lovers of Southern Soul will surely admire Ray's mighty fine take of "Good Guys".

soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/raycrumleyIwanttobe.mp3

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/raycrumleygoodguys.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

REV. T.L. BARRETT: Lord's Prayer * GOSPEL ROOTS, M-, 75.- Euro, sold

Banging soulful Florida Modern Soul gospel dancer in immaculate condition.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/revtlbarrettlordsprayer.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

MARVELLE & THE BLUE MATS: The Dance Called The Motion * DYNAMIC SOUND, VG++, water damaged labels, 75.- Euro, on hold

Hard hitting deep funk with all the ingredients you like. Open drums, raw vocals and a tight backind band. Clean vinyl with only the lightest handling marks, label is as shown.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/marvelleandthedance.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

BROTHERS OF SOUL: Come On Back * BOO, VG-, 75.- Euro, sold

Nothing harder then pricing out wounded records. This essential slice of 60's Detroit soul is covered with tiny scratches, typical for records shelved without a sleeve. But the good news is, that no scratches go really deep and it sounds way better than it looks - as always the soundfile is taken from the record for sale. So I hope 75.- Euro is a fair price for someone, who just want to DJ with a true motor city masterpiece.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/brothersofsoulcomeon.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

CREATIONS: A Dream * ZODIAC, VG/Poor, 60.- Euro, sold

And here is another one, that has seen better times and it's actually the same group as the Brothers Of Soul credited to Creations on this Zodiac release. "A Dream" plays great, but it's rather VG to VG- with multiple small scratches, but it's still sounding great. The bad news is, that the flipside is unplayable due to a heavy scratch, that makes the needle jump. So 60.- Euro seems to be a fair pice for an indemand, but wounded record. Did I already say, that I hate pricing records in bad condition?

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/creationsadream1.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

RICHARD BLANDON & THE DUBS: Lost In The Wilderness * VICKI, M-, 60.- Euro, sold

Somehow strange, but very soulful and funky late 60's record with a spooky atmosphere. I don't know any soul record, that sounds like this lost little masterpiece. Check the soundbyte to hear what I mean.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/richardblandonlostinthe.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

THE LA RAYS: Yesterday And You / A Woman Like You * ARLEN, M-, 60.- Euro

Rare and great mid-sixties Los Angeles soul dancer with a more than decent flip. This comes in it's original Arlen distribution sleeve and I bet most of you, have never seen one.

soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/laraysyesterdayand.mp3

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/laraysawoman.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

WILLIE TEE: Sweet Thing / Man That I Am * GATUR, VG+/VG, H2O damaged labels, 50.- Euro

Awesome funky soul by New Orleans legend Willie Tee on his own Gatur label. This is the misspelled version, credited to "Willie Lee". Hurricane Kathrina did some damage to the labels. Flipside plays with mild clicks, but it's all about "Sweet Thing" anyway.

soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/willieteesweetthing12345.mp3

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/willietteemanthatiam.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

CAROL FRAN: I'm Gonna Try * PORT, Promo, VG++, 50.- Euro, sold

60's soul never sounded better; uptempo dancefloor pleaser with Lafayette/Louisiana born soul lady Carol Fran giving her very best.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/carolfranimgonnatry.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

EVELYN LEGRAND: I Got Caught / High And Dry * S.P.Q.R., M-, 50.- Euro

Most likely this record comes from the decks of Lenis Guess from Norfolk/Virginia. Two great uptempo R&Bish sides by a lady, who only released this one record. I'm pretty sure she gave name to Frank Guida's Legrand label, which was connected to S.P.Q.R., but I have no further information.

soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/evelynlegrandigotcaught.mp3

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/eveylnlegrandhighand.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

FLOYD BECK: Got To Be A Man * F&M, VG++, 50.- Euro

Floyd Beck's first solo release from 1975, recorded in Pittsburgh and it's an exceptional floating midtempo groove ticking all the boxes. The wonderful world of independent soul releases!

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/floydbeckgottobeaman.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

E. G. TAYLOR & THE SOUNDS OF SOUL: You Made Me Mad / Pick Yourself Up * VAL, M-, 50.- Euro

Banging Northern Soul backed up by a superb sweet soul ballad on this superb Pittsburgh 60's release. Extra clean copy, that never needs an upgrade!

soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/egtayloryoumademe.mp3

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/egtaylorpickyourself.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

JERRY O: There Was A Time / Funky Charge * WHITE WHALE, M-, 50.- Euro, sold

Peak time DJ stuff by Jerry Murray aka Jerry O. Maybe the finest take on this James Brown classic. This copy is clean as a whistle and comes with it's original birth sleeve. Flip it over for another funky fun tune, that isn't too shabby either.

soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/jerryotherewasatime.mp3

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/jerryofunkycharge.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

DOC OLIVER: Soul Popcorn * JANUS, promo, strong VG+, 40.- Euro

Mighty fine funky soul from 1969 by Doc Oliver, whose real name is Marion Oliver, he released just three 45s during his career and this one is his debut from 1969.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/docoliversoulpopcorn.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

CANDY & SWEETS: I Want To Give You My Everything * 20th CENTURY, promo, M-, 40.- Euro, sold

Clean promo copy of this mighty fine 1973 dancer, also recorded by Newby & Johnson on Mercury.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/candyandsweetsiwant.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

BINGO: We Can't Get Enough * SILVER BLUE, promo, M-, 40.- Euro

Hands-in-the-air Philly Modern Soul produced and arranged by Bobby Martin. Actually a pretty much perfect record with everything in the right place.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/bingowecantget.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

RAW SPITT: That Ain't My Wife (That I See) / Songs To Sing * UNITED ARTISTS, M-, 40.- Euro, sold

Essential deep soul double header and a must have if slow southern soul is your cup of tea. The men behind these two masterpieces are Jerry Whitehead on vocals and the notorious Jerry Williams aka Swamp Dogg on the faders. Probably the most unpopular genre in soul collecting is deep soul, so the time to buy this stuff is now! Who would have thought, that sweet soul ballads are getting big 10 years ago and they are fetching crazy money now.

soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/rawspitttahtaintmy.mp3

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/rawspittsongsto.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

BARRY WHITE: All In The Run Of A Day * BRONCO, promo, M-, 40.- Euro

Barry White's third record release from 1967, before he became the bedroom-soul-superstar of the 70's. This mighty fine mid- to uptempo dancer has all the ingredients a proper nighter record needs. Check the soundbyte! This is the last copy of the small batch I had.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/barrywhiteallinthe1.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

SUGARPIE DI SANTO: Do The Whoopie / Get To Steppin' * BRUNSWICK, promo, wol, M-, 35.- Euro

Nice funky 60's soul dancer by Sugarpie DeSanto and probably her best record to DJ with. She was a childhood friend of Etta James and you hear Etta's influence in her expressive singing. Flip it over for another winner more on the midtempo side of things.

soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/sugarpiededothe.mp3

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/sugarpiedegettosteppin.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

THE OLYMPICS: Girl, You're My Kind Of People * WARNER BROS., M-, drill hole in lbl, 35.- Euro, sold

Semi known and fantastic crossover soul by veteran R&B group The Olympics. This is the same song as Bob Relf on Trans-American and you will struggle to find a cleaner copy than this.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/olympicsgirlyoure.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

PRINCE PHILLIP MITCHELL: One On One * ATLANTIC, M-, 35.- Euro, sold

Excellent 1978 dancer and you will struggle to find a cleaner copy than this.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/princephillipsoneonone.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

LINDA LYNDELL: What A Man * VOLT, promo, VG++, 35.- Euro

Clean promo copy of this iconic Memphis 45. It wasn't until a rap group (Was its Salt 'N' Peppa?) sampled this and everybody and his dog wanted a copy. This was in the 90's and records like this where easy to find. Times have changed with thousands of "new" Soul collectors world wide are after the same records and a clean copy of this is now hard to find. Discogs sellers want crazy money for it, so I guess this is a nice price for somebody.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/lindalyndellwhataman1.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

MARVIN SMITH: Have More Time * BRUNSWICK, M-, 35.- Euro

Classy Chicago dancer in mighty fine condition. Marvin Smith was a member of the Artistics and recorded four great 45s as a solo artists. (One more on the list) The company sleeve has seen better times, but it's in the grooves what counts.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/marvinsmithhavemore.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

JEAN SHY: We've Got A Good Thing Going / You've Gotb To Take It (If You Want It) * FOX CAR, VG++, 35.- Euro

Two fantastic, sophisticated and soulful New York sides back to back somewhere between sweet soul and crossover. Great production with strings and things and Jean Shy is a hell of a great singer. I can't really decide which side I prefer, so check out both soundsnippets.

soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/jeanshywevegota.mp3

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/jeanshyyouvegotto.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Semi known uptempo New Orleans R&B Soul release.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/jerryadamsriveroftears.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

JOHNNY SCOTT: Hide & Seek With Me * PORTRA, M-, 30.- Euro

Cool Memphis 60's soul double sider. One side for the dancefloor, flip it over for a great down- to midtempo groove.

soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/johnnyscotthideandseek.mp3

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/johnnyscottwontyou.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

ELDRIDGE HOLMES: Let's Go Steady * KANSU, M-, 30.- Euro

Great Northern/Crossover dancer from New Orleans. The song is written by Charles Brimmer and production credits go to Senator Jones. Nola stalwart names on a great slice of late 60's soul.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/eldridgeholmesletsgosteady12.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

JOE TEX: Under Your Powerful Love * DIAL, M-, 30.- Euro

Clean copy of this 1975 modern soul dancer first played as a new release at the Wigan Casino.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/joetexunderyour1.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

SOLID SOLUTION: L.O.V.E. * SILVER SPOON, promo, VG+ to VG++, 30.- Euro, on hold

1978 Detroit release and a mighty fine group harmony dancer. All roads lead to great success for this 5 piece motor city outfit as their records had extensive airplay on Michigan radio stations, but things changed dramatically when Silver Spoon was closed down by the Detroit drug squad when they bust their office on 6 Mile Road. Solid Solution continued playing small clubs in the area, but wider success was out of reach without a supporting label. Solid Solutions legacy are three fine 45s and a rather good LP.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/solidsolutionlove.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

THE FANTASTIC JOHNNY C: (She's) Some Kind Of Wonderful / Baby, I Need You * PHIL-L.A-OF SOUL, made in Canada, M-, 30.- Euro, sold

Great take of the Atlantic release by The Soul Brothers Six. The version by the Soul Brothers Six is a bit slower and completely stripped down, without horns and strings and it sounds like a demo to my ears. This version has way more guts to it and you get a wonderful midtempo flip on top.

soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/fgantasticjohnnysomekind.mp3

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/fantasticjohnnybabyineed.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

THE DELEGATES: Pigmy * AURA, strong VG+, 30.-, sold

To my ears the funkiest Organ groover ever recorded; jazzy, funky and totally out of this world. This trio, led by Billy Larkin on Organ, really got things swinging. Complete with it's distribution sleeve, which is not easy to find either.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/delegatespigmy.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

LITTLE CARL CARLTON: Competition Ain't Nothing * BACK BEAT, VG+, mild label damage,  30.- Euro

Proper Northern Soul by a very young Carl Carlton here. Banging stomping sounds, that still sounds the business.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/littlecarlcompetition1.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

ERNIE SHELBY: Punsih Me / Bend Over Backwards * POLYDOR, M-, 30.- Euro, sold

Two great early 70's soul sides by an almost unknown artist, who recorded a bunch of great 45s. This one was co-written by Phillip Mitchell and produced Clayton Ivey and Terry Woodford in Alabama. Ernie Shelby was born in Los Angeles and wrote many songs for artists like Joe Simon. He was a succesfull athlete too, in his younger days he was the american champion in long jumping and he won - as the first afro american team-captain - of the Kansas men's track & field team the world championship in 1958.

soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/ernieshelbypunish.mp3

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/ernieshelbybendover12.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

THE PROGRESSORS: The Brothers Under Pressure * PEOPLE, Promo, VG++, 30.- Euro

Rare James Brown production on his People output and as you would expect, it's great funk record.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/progressorsthebrothers.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

TONY DRAKE: Let's Play House * MUSICOR, M-, 30.- Euro, sold

Essential 60's soul ballad that lurks into beat ballad heaven and might also have a appeal to sweet soul collectors. The perfect stuff for all these sunday sessions these days. This is the same Tony Drake who recorded the Northern Soul classic "Suddenly".

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/tonydrakeletsplayhouse.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

FRED HUGHES: Baby Boy * BRUNSWICK, VG++, sticker on label, 25.- Euro

A Northern Soul classic and if you don't own a copy, buy this one! Simply a stunning slice of late 60's dance soul. Highly recomended!

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/fredhughesbabyboy123.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

SISTER SLEDGE: Love Don't You Go Through No Changes On Me * ATCO, M-, 25.- Euro

A Blackpool Mecca spin from 1974 and what a fantastic 70's dance sound it is. The group formed in 1971 in Philadelphia and never achieved bigger success until 1979 when Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards from Chic produced "We Are Family".

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/sistersledgelovewontyou.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

TRADEWINDS: Strange TRIUMPH M-, 25.- Euro

Another Philly record, that graced the decks of Colin Curtis and Ian Levine during the Mecca days. This was a project of guitar player Norman Harris, who later was one of the members of MFSB, the backbone of the Philly sound. Extra clean copy, that never needs an upgrade.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/tradewindsstrange1.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

INNERVISION: Honey Baby (Be Mine) * PRIVATE STOCK, promo, M-, 25.- Euro

1975 dancer from the top shelf and so much better then it's price tag.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/innervisionhoneybaby1.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

MASTERS OF SOUL: Sad Face * OVIDE, M-, 25.- Euro, on hold

Superb late 60's dancer with a shuffling, finger snapping back beat on Skipper Lee's mighty Ovide label out of Houston Texas.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/mastersofsoulsadface.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

JIMMY HOLIDAY: The New Breed * DIPLOMACY, VG++, wol, "x" on labl, sticker on label flipside, 25.- Euro, sold

Proper nice price Northern Soul, this would easily fetch three figures if it would be rare.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/jimmyholidaythenewbreed.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

RONNIE ANGEL: For Love * ONYX, VG, label damage, especially on the flip side, 25.- Euro, on hold

Underrated 60's soul dancer by a legend, if you are into Memphis soul history. Ronnie Angel's real name was Ronnie Stoots, he operated a recording studio and he owned a graphic design company called "Memphis Magic", they created many record sleeves in the 70's and designed the iconic Stax-Logo. This is a neat little late 60's dancer with lots of legs in it, check the soundbyte!

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/ronnieangelforlove.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

JIMMIE ELLIS: Looking Thru The Eyes Of Love / I Gotta See My Baby * HIP-DELIC, VG-, wol, 25.- Euro, on hold

1970 release by Jimmie "Preacher" Ellis, who recorded a bunch of collectable records on several westcoast labels during the 60's and 70's. Featured side offers an atmospheric bluesy midtempo groove flip it over for hard hitting funk, "Looking thru the eyes of love" has weird looking, scattered scratches from the middle to the end of the playing surface and plays with noticeable surface noise at the end. Flipside plays fine. Priced accordingly!

soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/jimmieeliislooking.mp3

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/jimmieelisigotta.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

EDDIE BO: You Are Going To Be Somebodys Fool Too * NOLA; M-, 25.- Euro

Edwin Bocage alias Eddie Bo, better know for his mindboggling funk sides from the 70's, with a superb 60's soul mover. Pure New Orleans class on extra clean wax. Don't sleep!

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/eddieboyouaregoing.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

SHALONG: I'm In Love With You * RED COACH, promo, strong VG+, 25.- Euro

Nice New York sweet soul on Genne Redd Jr's Red Coach label, that released a string of great records from the late 60's to the mid seventies.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/shalongiminlove.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

CHUCK DANZY: Git Down * NU-TONE, VG++, label damage, 25.-

Gary/Indiana killer funk with some sleazy girl voices on top. Dancefloor smashing stuff, don't sleep on this.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/chuckdanzygetdown.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

WOOD BRASS & STEEL: Hey What's That You Say * ASTROSCOPE, VG++, 25.- Euro

This is the band who played on arguably on one of the finest soul LPs ever recorded; the self titled Skull Snaps LP on GSF. My guess is, that they brought this song to the studio and the Skull Snaps changed the name to "It's A New Day", well, it's obviously the same song with minor changes in the lyrics and both songs are credited to Ineffie Woods. Anyway, this is a cool funk 45 and hard to find in such nice condition.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/woodbrasshey.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

JIMMY DELPHS: Almost* ATLANTIC, made in Italy, Vinyl VG+ / Sleeve: VG+, sticker on lbl, 20.- Euro

1968 Detroit classic on a nice looking italian art sleeve issue. Actually a very nice dancer, that never really got the attention it deserves. Vinyl has numerous very mild surface marks and plays excellent.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/jimmydelphsalmost12.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

BOBBY BLAND: Yum Yum Tree * DUKE, strong VG+, mild ringwear on lbl, 20.- Euro, sold

In my humble opinion Bobby Bland's best dancer, I prefer this to the outplayed "Shoes". Bad boy Andre Williams produced this slice of of uptempo soul and Bobby was in top form when recording this. Chose your fighter: a reissue for 15 ukp or a real deal soul record for nearly the same amount? I know the answer!

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/bobbyblandyumyum1.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

BOBBY BLAND: Honey Child * DUKE, M-, 20.- Euro, sold

Clean copy of this excellent R&B / Northern dancer by the incomparable Bobby Bland.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

MARVIN SMITH: Love Ain't Nothing But Pain * BRUNSWICK, VG+, 20.- Euro

Neat windy city dancer on the mighty Brunswick label, a company that put out more great soul records than you shake a stick at. Mild surface marks only, soundquality is top notch!

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/marvinsmithloveaint1.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

GENE CHANDLER: There Was A Time * BRUNSWICK, VG-, 20.- Euro, on hold

Less than half price for a wounded copy of this massiver funky edged dancer. Plays fine for DJing as the saying goes, but surely not good enough, if you like shiny vinyl.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/genechandlertherewasatime12.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

TAMMI TERRELL: This Old Heart Of Mine * MOTWON, M-, 20.- Euro, on hold

Uptempo Detroit 60's soul by the irresistable Tammi Terrell, who recorded some fine duets with Marvin Gaye and died way to young at age 25 of brain cancer.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/tammiterrellthisold.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

MARGIE ALEXANDER: Can I Be Your Main Thing * ATLANTIC, promo, M-, 20.- Euro, sold

Immense deeps soul ballad produced by Clarence Carter. No bullshit soul with a capital "S", no low rider sweetness, zero dancefloor appeal - just great and intense soulmusic!

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/margiealexandermainthing.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

BOBBY CALDWELL: What You Won't Do For Love * CLOUDS, M-, 20.- Euro

Probably unplayed copy of this TK-distributed Florida midtempo 70's gem. A record, that seems to be epitomizing the sound of the sunshine state in the 70's. A must have for any DJ or collector!

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/bobbycaldwellwhatyou123.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

T.U.M.E.: Love Shortage * MGM, promo, M-, 15.- Euro

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/mtumeshortageof.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

OHIO PLAYERS: Varee Is Love * WESTBOUND, M-, 15.- Euro

Beautiful sweet soul ballad by the mighty Ohio Players, who are better known for their funky sides (the flip offers an excellent funky instro). This one ticks all the boxes if mellow group harmony stuff is your kind of sound. Treasured in my record room and it should be in yours too! The sleeve is a bit worn, but hey, Westbound sleeves are rare meanwhile and at least, it's there.

soundfile 1: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/ohioplayersvaree.mp3

soundfile 2: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/ohioplayerswaltsfirst.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

AARON NEVILLE: A Hard Nut To Crack * PARLO, M-, 15.- Euro

Super nice 60's soul dancer by New Orleans' golden voice "Art" Aaron Neville.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/aaronnevillehardnutto12.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

JACKIE LEE: Would You Believe * MIRWOOD, M-, 15.- Euro, on hold

There's something special about the West Coast Mirwood sound of the 60's. Nearly every record sounds like a blueprint for Northern Soul and this Jackie Lee 45 is no exception. Uptempo, blasting dancefloor vibes with distinctive arrangements by the great James Carmichael.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/jackieleewouldyou1.mp3

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

BETTY EVERETT: You're No Good * VEE JAY, VG+, 15.- Euro, on hold

Her greatest success as a solo artist was the slightly silly "Shoop Shoop Song", but Betty Everett also recorded some remarkable soul songs. Here is one of them a midtempo gem of immense proportions and a prime example of Chicago 60's soul.

soundfile: https://hamburgcitysoul.com/upload/bettyeverettyourenogood.mp3

SOUTHSIDE REVUE: Chittlins * MELLOW, VG++, 15.- Euro

Chicago's Southside was a black neighborhood and a hotbed for prolific artist like Curtis Mayfield, Major Lance and Jerry Butler, just to name a few. This group obviously came from windy citys southside, released just this one 45 and it's a neat funky number written by Chuck Colbert and Eddie Silvers.

WILLIAM DE VAUGHN: Be Thankful For What You Got * TEC, M-, 15.- Euro, on hold

William De Vaughn's 1974 release "Be Thankful For What You Got" on Roxbury sold almost 2 Million copies and was a massive hit reaching #1 in the US R&B charts. Ironically he never got paid for the song as he sold the rights for $900 to Omega Studios in Philadelphia, a pay-to-play-recording shack. Omega rearranged the original take with some Philly studio cracks and sold the result to Roxbury records. 6 years later William De Vaughn re-recorded the song with an up-to-date discoish sound and here is the result. A great little dancer, that sounds like it could move some nowadays dancefloors.

SYL JOHNSON: We Did It / Any Way The Wind Blows * HI, promo, M-, 12.- Euro, sold

Great 70's soul by Chicago born Syl Johnson, who moved to Memphis to collaborate with Willie Mitchell and his HI records imperium in the early 70's. This is from 1972 and you get a mighty fine 70's dancer and a great take on Erma Coffey's "Anyway The Wind Blows" on the flip.

PHILLIP MITCHELL: Turning Over The Ground / Ain't No Love In My Life * HI, promo, M-, 12.- Euro

Super clean promo copy of this Memphis 70's soul double sider. Actually these records are way to cheap, this copy looks like it was manufactured yesterday and postage alone to import it from the US is way more expensive than the record and you will have to pay VAT and import charges on top. Useless reissues cost twice as much as well. So this should be a no brainer, but I guess the musical content is too sophisticated for most.

JANICE: I Told You * FANTASY, M-, 10.- Euro

A catchy 70's soul dance record and surely something that would fetch big bucks if it was rare. Reggie Saddler and Harvey Fuqua produced this, Fuqua best known for his Motown involvement while Reggie Saddler is well known among collectors for his highly collectable releases for Aquarius, De-Lite and his Northern classic on Panther, he played guitar in this group while Janice Barnett took the lead vocals. Great little record, that doesn't break the bank.

LATIMORE: Let's Straighten It Out * GLADES, VG++, 10.- Euro

Great and soulful midtempo track with a Fender Rhodes setting thetone, played by the man himself. Gwen McCrae recorded the song later on, but Benny Latimore's version has the guts for me. Miami soul never sounded better!
