GENE TOWNSEL: Mr. Boon Tang / Can't Stop A Poor Man From Making Love * AH-LA-VI, M-, 300.- Euro
Fantastic crossover soul and Gene Townsels debut 45 from 1970 in immaculate condition. Both sides are prime examples of sophisticated west coast independent soul and deserve the love of the international soul scene. Gene is still alive and kicking after a long succesfull career he now resides in Deerfield Beach / Florida and owns a music studio and conducts workshops for aspiring singers.
JIM SPENCER: Wrap Myself Up In Your Love / I'm Nowhere Whenver You're Away * ARMADA, M-, 150.- Euro
Two excellent sides back to back. Jim Spencer is better know for his other release on Armada "The Blues Are Out To Get Me". This is equally good and should set any Modern dancefloor on fire. More than decent flipside on top!
VEDA: Get Up To Get Down /You Can Love Again * MW, VG+, 150.- Euro
Scarce funky Modern Soul from 1978. This is the same group, that recorded the immortal "What It'*s All About" on West Sound. The dance side has a few light crackles during the intro, but cleans up nicely afterwards. Ballad flipsidse plays clean, but has a visible surface mark.
BRUTAL FORCE: Dreams For Sale / The Number For Groove * PHIL-L.A.-OF-SOUL, promo, wol, M-, 100.- Euro
Two sides for the dancefloor on this scarce Philly 70's release. "Dreams For Sale" has all the ingredients to go big on the more progressive venues these days. Flip it over for an even funkier effort. Fantastic record!
TROY: And Tomorrow Means Another Day We're Apart * COLUMBIA, promo, wol, M-, 100.- Euro
Superb midtempo Philly Modern Soul dancer from 1972 and a prime example of the sound of the city of brotherly love. Produced by Bobby Martin, who later found fame with his work for Philadelphia International. Btw, I paid more than 25 cent for this ;-)
JAMES WALSH GYPSY BAND: Cuz It's You Girl * RCA, Testpress, M-, 125.- Euro
Minneapolis Modern Soul classic on a clean RCA Testpress. Matrix reads: PB-11403 A / PA-11403-C. First played during the Stafford days and funny enough also from a testpress.
SLY SLICK & WICKED: All I Want Is You * EPIC, promo, M-, 100.- Euro
Midtempo Modern Soul from the top shelf. Produced to perfection by Dunn Pearson and a cover of the Four Flights on Almeria, that was released a year before the Sly Slick & Wicked adapted the song. I prefer this version by a country mile due to the smooth and slick production and the perfect harmonies by this outstanding group.
MICHELLE WILEY: I Feel So At Home Here * 20th CENTURY, promo, VG++ to M-, 75.- Euro
The first copy I bought of this was on a record buying trip to the states many years ago, the seller wrote on the sleeve "bedroom soul", obviously not liking it as it was in his dollar bin. Times have changed and taste too, this is a super soulful, sensitive ballad with a glorious Ed Townsend production and a superb Rene Hall arrangement. Mellow 70's soul from the top shelf!, a sunday chill out gem - simply superb!
JOHN WILLIAMS & THE TICK TOCKS: Do Me Like You Do Me / Blues, Tears And Sorrows * SANSU, promo, M-, 75.- Euro
Bargain price for a legendary New Orleans soul 45. One side provides a top notch 60's dancer, that had plays on the Northern Soul scene. Flipside is one of the finest deep soul ballads recorded in the crescent city.
LEE McDONALD: Gotta Get Home / Show Me * DEBBIE, M-, 75.- Euro
Outstanding Modern Soul stepper from 1979. Top side is on the rare LP by Lee McDonald as well, but the 7" provides a different mix compared to the LP-take. Flip it over for a beautiful slow jam.
BOBBY HEBB: You Want To Change Me * PHILIPS; Promo, VG+, 75.- Euro
Clean looking copy, but slightly hissy during the first few rotations. Why oh why did the record industry invented styrene? Anyway, Gamble & Huff recorded this Northern Soul gem in Philly and this is Bobby's best dancer.
HELEN CURRY: Sad And Blue * JA-WES, VG++, 60.- Euro
Small label Chicago rarity with a nice dance groove. All a bit messy and amateurish, but with a lot of charm. Book price is twice my asking price. Record has a minimal surface blemish, not affectin play at all.
MARVIN SIMS: Love Is On The Way / Blow Away Breeze * RIVERTOWN, M-, mild label damage, 60.- Euro
Two superb sides on this hard to find 70's release. Featured side offers a heart melting ballad. Flip it over for a slick Modern Soul dancer produced by Marvin Sims himself and Charles Colbert, a long time friend and studio partner of Sims.
CHARLES JOHNSON: Good Good Lovin' * DASH, M-, 50.- Euro
Florida Modern Soul from 1980 and surely a fantastic sound. This is the "other" Charles Johnson, always standing in the shadow of his classic on Alston records "Never Had A Love So Good", but not outplayed and equally great and way cheaper.
THE OHIO PLAYERS: You Don't Mean It / Trespassing * COMPASS, M-, sticker on either side of the label, 50.-
As a Northern Soul fan, you will be familiar with Towanda Barnes raunchy version of "You Don't Mean It" on A&M released in 1969. This is the first release of this great song from 1967 by the mighty Ohio Players. Great uptempo sounds, that ticks all the boxes. Flip it over for another song, that got covered later on by the Skull Snaps for their legendary LP on GSF. Vinyl is super clean except one tiny surface mark, that does not sound at all.
THE TOPICS: Try A Little Love / All Good Things Must End * HEAVY DUTY, promo, M-, 50.- Euro
The Topics, a group unable to make a bad record and they had a rollercoaster of a career. They started on Chess records as the Uniteds, but their recordings remained on the shelf. After that, they recorded as the Cymbals for Carnival records. Their third release on Heavy Duty on offer here, was their biggest success, but only sold locally in New York. Harvey Averne produced this fantastic double sider with a funky crossover dancer, featured here, and a heartfelt sweet soul ballad on the flip. Way rare promo copy in superb condition!
JEAN WELLS: What Have I Got To Lose * CALLA, M-, 45.- Euro, on hold
Simply one of the finest soul records under gods sun! Arranged by soulmusic's Mozart Bert Decoteaux and an extra clean copy, that never needs an upgrade.
Oscar Perry is a prime example of an artist, that would have been forgotten if the soul scene wouldn't be the finest gathering of people in the world. This Texas born singer and songwriter recorded so many great sides and none of them really made it big. This 1979 release is a superb Modern Soul dancer and it's offered here in fantastic M- shape.
ROYAL ROBINS: Turn Me Loose / The Country Fool * ABC -PARAMOUNT, promo, M-, minor wol, 40.- Euro
Early soul record, that still has some echoes from the Doo-Wop era in it, but an excellent example of the transition sound of the early 60's and a nice dancer too. Flip it over for a fun uptempo side.
FRANKIE & THE SPINDLES: Count To Ten * ROC-KER, promo, M-, 35.- Euro
Excellent Philly sweet soul from 1968 on a super clean promotional copy. This is an early George Kerr production and pretty much defines what sweet group soul is all about.
ALVIN THOMAS: The Hesitation * GREAT SOUTHERN, VG+, H2O damaged labels, 30.- Euro
Scarce New Orleans funk with more vibes then a anybody can stand. Simply awesome instrumental sound, that ticks all the right boxes. Kathrina damaged labels.
Fine playing VG copy of this latin soul bomb, that crossed over to the Northern Soul scene due to it's strong Tighten-Up-inspired backbeat. Nice playing copy, good for DJing as the saying goes, with some surface marks. nothing too bad. Check the soundbyte before ordering!
G.C. CAMERON: You're What's Missing In My Life * MOTOWN, M-, 30.- Euro
Totally underrated 70's dancer, that sounds the business next to all the big ticket items. Extra clean copy, that comes with it's original jukebo-stripe.
CHUCK EDWARDS: Downtown Soulville * PUNCH, VG, 30.- Euro
Punchy late 1968 funky soul by rowdy guitar slinger and singer Chuck Edwards, a guy who played behind Bobby Bland and had an impressive discography for himself. He later on moved from Pittsburgh to San Francisco and formed the Edwards Generation. This copy has seen better days and has several light marks, but plays at least a grade better than it looks.
LINDA LYNDELL: What A Man * VOLT, promo, VG++, 30.- Euro
Clean promo copy of this iconic Memphis 45. It wasn't until a rap group (Was its Salt 'N' Peppa?) sampled this and everybody and his dog wanted a copy. This was in the 90's and records like this where easy to find. Times have changed with thousands of "new" Soul collectors world wide are after the same records and a clean copy of this is now hard to find. Discogs sellers want crazy money for it, so I guess this is a nice price for somebody.
THE RELATIVES: Lenient With My Love / More Time (To Explain) * ARCHWAY, VG, 30.- Euro
Excellent San Fran 70's dancer on top side. Flip it over for a sweeet low rider sound. The dance side is a clean VG with mild surface marks, the flipside has a few more scuffs, but still plays very enjoyable.
ELDRIDGE HOLMES: Let's Go Steady * KANSU, M-, 30.- Euro
Great Northern/Crossover dancer from New Orleans. The song is written by Charles Brimmer and production credits go to Senator Jones. Nola stalwart names on a great slice of late 60's soul.
JOE L.: Let Me KNow / I Can't Stand It * HI, promo, VG+/M-, 30.- Euro
Joe L. was a Detroit based Blues singer, who recorded two great and rare 45s for Willie Mitchell's Hi label in Memphis. His real name was John Lee Carter and he had a minor hit with "Please Mr. Foreman" on Clissac records, a record dedicated to Boxing Champ George Foreman. Nice and clean copy here, The A-side has a non sounding surface mark, flipside is M-.
THE WINSTONS: Color Him Father / Amen, Brother * METROMEDIA; VG+, 30.- Euro
Two contrasting and equally great sides. Featured is a mighty fine crossover soul dancer, flip it over for a legendary funk instrumental with an open drum break, that changed the face of music forever. This drum break was sampled for countless HipHop- and D'n'B productions and must be seen as a cornerstone in modern dance music.
AL HUDSON: We Must Make It Happen * ATCO, VG+, 30.- Euro
Before Al Hudson made it big on the R&B Charts with "You Can Do It" he recorded a handful of great and highly collectable 45s for Atco records. This is one of them and it's a mighty fine 70's dancer.
THE ADMIRATIONS: Don't Leave Me / All For You * ONE-DERFUL, M-, 25.- Euro
Awesome Chicago Northern Soul dancer backed up by an immense group soul midtempo tune. Extra clean copy, that never seen a needle before I lifted the soundfile.
THE ADMIRATIONS: Wait Till I Get To Know You * ONE-DERFUL, M-, storage warp, plays with no extra tracking, 25.- Euro
Their other 45 on One-Derful and again a great 60's dancer. This copy has a mild warp, but plays fine, without extra tracking, on both of my turntables.
EDDIE JAMES: Her Mamma Won't Leave Us Alone / Sad Sad Feeling * STARTOWN, M-, mild lbl damage, 20.- Euro
Eddie James wastes no time complaining about his mother in law. He does this with a gritty soulful voice and a tight funky backing band, on a funny side note, the guitar player copies Jimi Hendrix solo on "Hey Joe". Flip it over for a facemelting deep soul cut. Great little record out of Chattanooga / Tennessee.
The opening line: "the saddest word that I ever heard is almost" gets me everytime I hear this superb Detroit 60's dancer. Still astonishing, how many fantastic records where produced in the motor city and how distinguish they sound compared to the output of other big US cities. Anyway, a great cheapo and if you don't already own a copy, grab this one!
JAMES DUNCAN: You've Gotta Be Strong / All Goodbyes Ain't Gone * FEDERAL, M-, 20.- Euro
Banging raw funk on the top side and a nice little shuffler on the flip. A superb and very underrated 45 in my book and still on the affordable side of things.
FLOATERS AND SHU-GA: For Your Love * FEE, VG++ very close to M-, 20.- Euro
Detroit stepper of the highest order and cheap too. The label design alone is worth the asking price, but this is no art exhibtion here; it's in the grooves that counts and to my ears, this sounds brillinat.
THE PAZANT BROTHERS: Groovin / Fever * RCA, promo, VG+, 20.- Euro
Two killer funk sides by New York's legendary Pazant Brothers. Featured side is of course a cover of the Young Rascals hit on Atlantic, flip it over for a wickwed version of "Fever". Fever has a few mild pops towrads the end of the track.
THE MAD LADS: Whatever Hurts You / No Time Is Better Than Right Now * VOLT, VG++, some label damage, 20.- Euro
Sweet soul magic by the mighty Mad Lads. So much soul on these two Memphis sides and another proff, that top quality soul doesn't have to break the bank.
ROSCO ROBINSON: That's Enough * WAND, M-, drill hole in label, 20.- Euro
Almost 60 years since this stomping Northern Soul record hit the stores in the US and this copy looks like it left the pressing plant yesterday. Honestly, I think 20 Euro is too cheap for records in this condition, but the market says, that's the price tag. Anyway, your chance to grab a great slice of dancefloor proven 1966 soul in immaculate condition.
LEE CHARLES: Wrong Number * BRUNSWICK, promo, M-, 20.- Euro
Semi known and underrated 60's dancer on the mighty Brunswick label hidden away on the b-side of a mediocre ballad. A strong shuffling back beat underneath the gritty soulful vocals of Lee Charles. Value for money I'd say!
JACKIE VERDELL: Call On Me * CORAL, VG to VG+, drill hole in lbl, 20.- Euro
Punchy female 60's uptempo soul and way better than it's price tag. Mild surface marks, nothing deep. This copy is a strong player and absolutely suitable for DJing.
SAM BAKER: I'm Number One / I Believe In You * SOUND STAGE 7, M-, 20.- Euro
Mighty fine 60's uptempo dancer backed up by facemelting deeps soul cut. Jackson Mississippi born Sam Baker fuels his gospel schooled voice with heartfelt lyrics and natural timing. I always thought he sounds like a gritty Clyde McPhatter and that's surely big compliment.
THE DRAMATICS: Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get * VOLT, M-, 20.- Euro
Stone mint copy of this 1971 release written and produced by Detroit mastermind Tony Hester. A genre defining record with a top notch performance by the Dramatics and a back beat, that even make the lame shake a leg to it.
Excellent funky sound hidden away on the b-side of a weird ballad (they estensively used an echo effect). Naamon "Chips" Jones was the band leader, vocalist and bass player of Black Heat and they are killing it on this side. Check it out!
Two stepper from 1981 produced by Clarence Reid and another proof, that quality doesn't have to break the bank. Clean copy in it's original distribution sleeve.
WE THE PEOPLE: Right Now / You Made Me * LION, M-, minor wol on lbl flipside, 15.- Euro
The strange world of soul collecting part 129. The other record by We The People on Lion cost you 100 bucks for the Modern soul classic "Making my Daydrem Real". This one is a cheapo and obviously stands in the shadow of their "big" record. I think this one is as great as "Making My Daydrem Real" and costs you 10 times less. Check the soundbytes!
Mighty fine Chicago mid-sixties group soul dancer on George & Earnest Leaners One-Der-Ful/M-Pac! outlet. Eric Leaner, the son of Earnest, is now licensing unissued and rare stuff from the Vaults of the labels to Secret Stash records in Minneapolis.
TIMOTHY WILSON: These Are The Things That Make Me Know She's Gone * SKY DISC, VG, label damage, 15.- Euro
Super soulful down- to midtempo soul by the great Timothy Wilson. A fantastic song, that lets his voice shine. Also recorded by Howard Tate on Turntable, but this version got the guts. Great playing VG copy with many mild surface marks, but nothing deep. Check the soundbyte!
THE NILSMEN: The Sand Step / Le Winston * RJR, Vinyl: M- / Sleeve: VG+, 15.- Euro
A record made famous by Keb Darge during the deep funk days. Two great funky organ instros back to back and an advertising record for Camel cigarettes.
MARY WELLS: Stop Takin' Me For Granted / Ain't It The Truth * 20th CENTURY-FOX, VG++, 12.- Euro
Right after Mary Wells left Motown she sigend up with 20th Century-Fox records and recorded some great sides for this major company. Here are two fine examples of Mary Wells talent. In fact she never made a bad record!
Mint stock copy of this amazing 1974 release. More than 50 after it's release, it still sounds like soul heaven to me. File under cheap quality records for the small budget.
HOT BUSH Tell Me That You Will * APA, M-, 12.- Euro
Unplayed stock copy o this T.K. distributed Florida 70's soul gem. A stepper of the highest order and cheaper then all the stupid useless reissues flooding the market these days.
JEAN SHY: I'll Belong To You * DAKAR, promo, M-, 12.- Euro
Dee Ervin penned ballad on Chicago's Dakar output. An excellent song and how good is Jean Shy on this? A prime example of the high quality of outstanding soulmusic, that emerged from the streets of the the windy.
DONNY GERARD: He's Always Somewhere Around * GREEDY, M-, 12.- Euro
One of the very best things you can buy for next to nothing. A 70's dancer, that sounds like 3 figures, a label design by an unknown maestro and the song was published by "Joyfully Sad Music" /what a name for a publishing company!), honestly, what more do you want?
To order: PM me . Records will be reserved on a strict first come, first served basis.
No matter how big your order is, 8.- Euro flat unless you want registered postage!
I recomend registration for all orders over 50.- Euro for additional cost of 3.- Euros.
The list is not really sorted, so you find Funk, next to Northern and R&B next to Modern. Prices are in Euro!!!
Grading: Goldmine grading system - M- / VG++/ VG+ / VG / VG- etc.

Almost 60 years since this stomping Northern Soul record hit the stores in the US and this copy looks like it left the pressing plant yesterday.
