I've really enjoyed quite a few of the Northern Soul/R&B/popcorn releases from the Diamond Records (NYC) label. Has anyone compiled their 45s? I had read online that the label was bought out by another label at one point and the master tapes are presumed to be lost.

I was told that Ronnie Dove owns the tapes! That's a weird one. I'm thinking maybe it's only his own recordings, but I was put under the impression that he owns more than just his stuff.

Ronnie Dove only owns his own recordings. The rest of the catalogue is floating in some very murky waters, with no clear ownership provenance. It probably won't come as too much of a surprise when I tell you that the label had strong Mafia ties back in the 60s.
