I'm 46 and still rightly or wrongly consider myself young on the soul scene. At the various events I attend there are more bald heads than with hair (and I don't just mean the blokes. Ha). Thing is, its never really bothered me when people say "its all coming to an end, there's no young ones coming into the scene bar one or two of our own children who have been brain washed".
As old as we are everyone gives it hell on the dance floor as the memories come flooding back. There is one thing though !!! Please stop wearing baggies as they look crap on you. We always looked smart and sharp in the old days why stop now.
Getting back to my main point about the youth, I have had a house in Spain (Valencia) for six years now. I often wondered should I go full time what would I do about my records, Soul nights etc. I have over the last 6 months found a soul scene to compare to the old days. Its over there, These young men and women are in their 20's /30's . They dress and act just as we did in the old days. I have been the only Brit in a room with over 150 people in it. As for the music it's as good if not better than ours. Top collectors are over there paying big money for quality tunes. They have three allnighters a year which are advertised on this site, the last was excellent so give it a go.
They talk all the time about Wigan Casino etc, and watch every bit of footage that's on the internet. They are true soul fans.
So the message is don't despair, the faith will live on. It just might mean we get a sun tan as well as bad back after attending a soul night.
