  1. Someone just emailed me and asked if he could buy one of my ebay records that didn't sell yesterday but asked if I'd give him a discount if he bought it.

    It was 10 quid.

I remember doing a car booty a few years ago and right at the end when we were just trying to offload the shite that was left, an old dear came and looked on our table and asked about one of those plastic things you put on your draining board for your cutlery and asked me how much so I said '20p' and she replied 'Will you take 10p'?

I let her have it for nothing. laugh.giflaugh.gif:lol:

  2. Pop ???????

    POP ???????????

    POP ?????????????????????

It wasn't a criticism Ian, quite the opposite in fact, it had me in mind of the 'Reset To Zero' track from last year.

And anyway, what would you rather have - a tune like this getting play, say, on Radio 2 or TV and becoming successful in a commercial and financial sense for you, or it being accepted as a great soul record by a small number people who post on Soul Source? I'm sure I know what I'd prefer if I'd made and produced it.

Wow, somebody else in my thread, I think I'll print out your post and frame it, Nick!!:lol::)

I'm sure Mister Randle will be somewhat more house and 'suvvern' than me but will be quality as always no doubt.

  5. The Bunky 45 was pressed up by the guy behind AM Tracks, Brian ??? - I forget his surname now.......legal as far as I know

If it's anything like the James Day 'Don't Waste The Pretty' seven that he was involved a couple of years back, Al Mason won't have seen a penny from its sales. sad.gif

  6. Pinnacle Records went bust today.

That means Passion Music won't get a penny for any sales of "Northern Soul 2008"

Just had a call from Ralph Tee saying that he's been hearing all kinds of things about rumours that Expansion/Passion are going bust because of the collapse of the Pinnacle Distribution company, and also because of it the Hilton Weekender won't be going ahead.

I've been asked to state that any rumours to this effect are categorically not true and although it hasn't been Passion Music/Expansion's best week, the collapse of Pinnacle Distribution won't affect the running of Expansion/Passion Music and the company are still in business and will remain so for the foreseeable future. Any Passion Music/Expansion stock can be ordered directly from Passion Music - their phone number is 0208 867 9361 or if anyone needs confirmation as to what's happening, then Ralph's asked me to give out his direct email which is ralph@expansion-records.co.uk

It also goes without saying that the Hilton Weekender will not be affected in any way by the collapse of Pinnacle Distribution and will be going ahead as planned.

  8. . . . has now passed on - it is no more - it has ceased to be - it's expired and gone to meet it's maker - this is a 'late' record - it's a stiff!, bereft of life it rests in peace - this is an 'EX' Northern soul Record!!"........

    *Appologies to Monty Pyphon*

Can't the same be said about Wigan Casino as a venue?

It doesn't stop people, 27 years after it died and became bereft of life etc. etc., banging on about it on a daily basis on here!! :shades:

  11. You're spot on Roger...I can say almost certainly that a number of Avenues have been closed to me through being outspoken on here...but hey...I can live with that...I will be the first to admit I can come across as a bit of an arse at times online...but i'm happy with the fact that those who have met me in real life from here can see me in a different light

That's like a line out of my own autobiography mate!!

  12. When I was promoting I never put personal feelings first when it came to selecting DJs...and believe me over the years I had some right w**kers DJ for me...primadonnas who made the DJs in this scene look like they are Humble

But my feeling is on the matter that if they play great records and get punters through the door...I don't care what they are like on a personal level...I thibnk if you limit your options on who you like...especially in the music business...then you are going to struggle on all levels...suppose it's just networking...have hundreds of associates in Manchester...but I could count on one hand the amount of people I trust...you don't have to like the DJs you book...just use them to your advantage.

You're a prime case in point, Beeks - I can guarantee you that because of this forum and some of the fuss surrounding you, regardless of it being of your making or what others have said, people wouldn't book you to DJ purely because of it, despite never having met you or know anything about you and regardless of how good a DJ you might be. Not that you'd be bothered in the slightest I suppose, but that can be how it works. All a bit daft really.

    Imvho of course.

    Roger

  13. Yes, I think so. You made me think though.. But providing the best for your event has to be priority.

    Jayne.x.

Doesn't always work like that though does it Jayne. I'm sure that vocal punters and other DJ's also getting in the ear of the promoter can sometimes have an effect as well. Sad but true.

  14. in fact at some of these venues the line-ups are interchangeable (each of the deejays could play each others' records and no-one would really notice.

Do the majority even care who the DJ's are as long as they hear the music they want to?

And how many promoters would book a DJ they don't actually like for whatever reason despite them always doing the business behind the decks when they play anywhere?
