Thanks very much for all your messages, texts and visits .....really really touched by them !!!! Stef said i died twice in the ambulance ( gotta find out the young paramedics name etc) then straight into theatre to repair stent.
Just gotta take it a bit easy now ( only 10 tablets every day now!!!!)
Ive been lucky twice over! My advice would be if you ever feel even slightly unwell ! Dont hesitate dial 999 every minute can be and is crucial
Again thanks so much from Stef and I xxx

Sam Pace update:
I was told today by his one of his oldest friends and one time Esquire David Bursey that Sam,s family had informed him of Sam passing. When David contacted the family again today to enquire about the funeral arrangements, he was told that Sam was still hanging on in there, although he is in a coma. David is going to visit him tomorrow.

Sadly Sam Pace one of the original members of The Esquires is seriously ill (as opposed to the original information I was given that he had passed away on Friday night) he is receiving treatment for cirrhosis of the liver a condition that he has been suffering with for the last couple of years.
As well as the Esquires, Sam has also featured in the line up of several other Milwaukee groups including "Ice" and "Fairplay". He was very proud when we at Soul Junction released one of his and Fairplay's unissued tracks "Don't Let Our Love Go" earlier this year.

Brian, ya probs know it's the flip of "You Are My Sunshine" (popular oldie) watch out for demos tho, think they single sided without "Nevermore".
There's one at $50 BIN.... bit overpriced to me?
...anyway get Little Ben's version (also on penny) much better imho
Steve
Also the same as Renaldo Domino on Twilight.
Old Richard Pegue knew how to get his money's worth out of a song

Bunch of mercenaries, the lot of yer (bugger, wished I got in first)
Nothing mercenary about it at all, the prices mentioned in this thread where the market value's of that time and personally I never had enough money to buy everything i wanted at any given time. Likewise during the 70's when you could buy records for 50 pence and a pound you always had to for go on some titles in favour of the ones you wanted the most. invariable the ones you chose not to buy then cost you a arm and a leg somewhere further down the line.
I seem to remember that when Andy sold up the final sum of his collection was circa £12,000 to £13,000 (probably a year's salary back then in a well paid job).
A few months ago Andy appeared at a local soul night, he kinda mentioned to Ted and myself that he wouldn't mind buying a few things back Eddie Parker I' Gone etc. We told him to forget it, for him to buy back what he had in 1986 would cost him at current market values the best part of £500,000 if he could get them that is and this wouldn't include an of the rarer titles that have turned up during the last 25 years.
So we've all got some great memories but also a few regrets along the lines of why the hell didn't i buy that at the time

I Don't think Karmello Brooks was going for more £10 at the time, got one of Pete Lawson for £8 at Stafford.
I'm sure Stafford was still going when Andy sold up, I was on a meagre apprentice's wages of £75 a week, so could only afford £35 for Martha Star Love Is The Only Solution & Billy Kennedy w/d on Thelma, though I'm sure I bought some other stuff.
Sorry Tony
Andy was still very much a active collector after Stafford. There was a handful of allnighter's after the Top Of The World at the South End Working Man's club (In the outskirts of Stafford, an Alan Johnson Promotion) During one of these Andy beat me to a Larry Wright "Sweet Sweet Kisses" off Derek Pearson for £25

Dave Think your right about John having the Gwen Owens sure I had chance of buying it but it was in pretty poor shape, he must have sold up soon after as I had Johnny Rodgers of him for £100 around that time .
Clearly remember buying Yvonne Vernee from Andy only to find out the following week he had another copy for sale , at the time it worried me thinking a boxfull had turned up £200 was a lot of money to me , that 2nd copy was obviously the one Ted bought . which I wasnt aware of till this thread .
I think prices were creeping up from around 1985 as before then there were bargains galore , Would love to know who it was who had 2-or 3 copies of Chuck Holiday for sale at Stafford , they were £35 each I bought one of them for the - I still love you - side , had never heard - Just cant trust nobody , so was pleased when I got home and played it , along with a Ree Flores at £20 . Collecting was great in those days now even mediocre records make stupid money .
Yo Tony
Thinking back, I'm pretty sure Andy sold up in the autumn of 1986.
John Corless bought 4 records off Andy the previously mentioned Gwen Owen's, Willie Tee Please Don't Go, Jackie Beavers I Need My Baby and as you rightly say Johnny Rogers for the princely sum of £400. I thinks this caused him to have a few sleepless night as he had sold them all less than six months later. These prices seem cheap now but back then I had to work a shed load of overtime to earn a £100 ( a poorly paid Joiner not like you an overpaid Electrician). Also one of my biggest mistakes was to knock back a VG copy of Jimmy Gresham on Teri De for a tenner naively stating I'd wait for a mint copy to come along, guess what I'm still waitin'
But on a brighter note I will forever be eternally grateful to you for buying one of those Jimmy Armstrong's on Shrine off me even if you chiselled me down by a fiver

Grapevine, Kent, Etc. Original Master Tapes Or Dubs Off Records ?
in Look At Your Box
·
Edited by Louise
Hi Barry
Referring to your original question as to what tracks are mastered from original master tapes or 45's.
To expect label owners or employee's to go through their entire catalogue to give details to which is which is a bit like asking "How longs a piece of string".
New material isn't a problem but regarding older material this is where most of the problems can possible arise.
In a perfect world every record company or artist (independent vanity releases) would have kept and maintained their master tape properly but sadly this is not the case. So original records or acetates have to be used more or in some cases if their is damage to the master tape and the necessary restoration work cannot rectify the problem a record may have to be used in conjunction with the tape to achieve the required standard of sound reproduction.
Barry's original question only ever really arises with previously issued material, this reminds me of a little story from a few years ago. when a former big noise radio DJ was praising the re mastering quality of one of our earlier Soul Junction releases, while making derogatory remarks against one of the at the time Kent CD releases. As I also owned a copy of the Kent CD I asked the DJ to tell me the name of the person responsible for the mastering on the CD cover (to which the answer i already knew) which he did. To which I replied that has we use the same company as Kent for our mastering did he not realise that it was the same person who was responsible for the mastering on both projects! both of which sounded great. After a couple of uncomfortable seconds of silence I told the said DJ that he needed to get his ears syringed, get a life and stop trying to be too clever.
Dave
P.S The said DJ and I no longer speak, I wonder why?
