This is an official re-edit...and on vinyl, if you actually follow all soul music from way back when to the present day, you would hear and find things like these..................Then again i do attend modern soul events as well as 60's rare soul nights...
Hi Brett,
When you say an official re-edit, do you mean one approved by Motown ? Just puzzled why it isn't on a Motown label ?

moldie
There were definately flyers at some of the events you attend Moldie, because I put them out. Lutterworth for example. You obviously weren't looking properly

Have asked him several times but seems he is more concerned about selling second hand furniture than a few ' old jukebox records ' for 7 bucks each !!
Bite the bullet, offer to buy them all unseen. Just say you'll turn up and clear them all out of his way. You may get lucky, you may buy a few boxes of trash, but at least you can use the money you have already made off the Nolan Chance to buy them

Edited by Dave Rimmer
can you expand on that statement, please.
Not sure how you need it expanding, However: When Chris King had access to the Motrown Vault to compile the two CDs of Motown tracks he did, one of the tracks he found was 'Crying In The Night' by The Monitors. Realising how good it was, he (And I don't know which is right here) either used an original Motown acetate, or cut an acetate from the Motown Master tape and started playing it in his DJ spots.
It quite quickly became the most in demand record on the dancefloors wherever Chris DJ'ed.
Realising this, someone else bootlegged it, and put it out on the Soul Beat label.
ie They were done when Chris King had made it into a huge record, and still had the only copy. They weren't done by Chris though I hasten to add.

I will say it again, cut the off topic, move on! Gene already said he will repost his original post and we will start again. Anymore and it will be removed.
I presume that's addressed at me.
Well to be quite frank, I was expressing my opinion on this thread as a whole. I do think the arguments are more entertaining than the 'serious debate', because there had been precious little of that.
However, if you are suggesting that I'm not allowed to express my opinion in this way, you are just re-enforcing the view of Mods dictating what views people can and can't hold. Consequently I fully expect this post to be removed.

Hi Guys/gals,
Always been intrigued by 'ghost' records & super rare discs & the stories & urban myths behind them.
So thought I'd start my first thread here, so go easy on me, hope it's in the right place & hope the subject hasn't been done to death already.
I'll kick off with a record by MAJOR LANCE, THINK NOTHING ABOUT IT on Okeh 7200, does this record actually exist in this format?
Has anyone ever seen it & does anyone know the story why this record actually never got cut? (or maybe it did).
Feel free to chip in with your own 'northern myth'.
Cheers ears
Aid.
It certainly got recorded, although whether it made it to the pressing plant is a different matter

Well, I can find half of it. There's a 7 inch "Feels Like The First Time" backed with "You Never Cross My Mind". Hard to see the number but the listing gives it as 2063

Dave Rimmer, you have this in your Millie Jackson, Isaac Hayes and Spring discogs as being on Polydor
Also the one shown in a previous post --
PD 2036 - Millie Jackson and Isaac Hayes - I Changed My Mind / Do You Wanna Make Love .... you have as a Polydor release in both the Millie & Isaac discogs.
Interesting. It's listed as being on Polydor because it's a Polydor release number, ie the PD prefix, and it does actually have a Polydor logo on it almost as large as the Spring logo. (In addition, I'd never seen the Spring release, so listed it as a Polydor Release)

Surreal Dj Requests
in Look At Your Box
The two I love are
"Can you play something we know", how the hell do I know what they know ???
and
"Can you play some Motown" as you've got one on Gordy spinning and one on Motown cued up next
I've been asked for some Beatles, some Abba, some Rock and Roll, and told a set of uptempo Oldies I played was "Wedding music, have you got nothing fast"
People always tend to come when you have two records left to play and request something ! Or leave a hand written list of 300 records, and you can't read any of it !
I once got asked "Can you play dominoes?"
"yes"
"Good, f*ck off and do it cos you can't play records"
Many years ago at Bretby, I made the mistake of saying "I never plan a spot in advance, I just open the box and play what I feel is right. I'd even play the spoons" The following month, five minutes into my spot, someone came and asked if I'd got any spoons to play, I of course said no. At which point he produced two plastic spoons and said "you'd better 'ave these then".
This went on through the whole spot, by the end of the hour I had the full picnic set, plastic spoons, knives, forks, even the bloody serviettes ! Thank you to Gaye Kidson for that one
Me and Phil Richards and wives were once at a venue where Mick H was DJing. He didn't know our wives at this point, so Margie and Sue kept going up asking for things like 'The Snake'. Micjk was ever so polite in explaining that he didn't have it with him. By the time they had been four times you could see Mick looking more and more exasperated. He suddenly worked out where they were sitting, and saw me and Phil helpless with laughter. Of course if you are going to take the piss out of a DJ, you have to remember he is the one with the microphone
Mick's response was "Rimmer, you bastard, that's a bottle of bud you owe me". Oh, but it was worth it just to see his face
