As you know Steve we have ladies at events also... What would they scratch or is this just a bloke thing???

    regards

    PC soul brigade.. biggrin.gif

Floor fillers..... With the difference in soul clubs and sounds its gonna be a matter of opinion indeed...

What moves one venue could lead to a stampede for the door at others.

Maybe the topic starter is talking about traditional northern oldies night????

The expensive ones are more often than not Mark the ones everyone is after and playing, Tommo should go after some of the cheap forgotten, underplayed oldies, there's stacks of them out there.

    One problem maybe with that...

I guess the places Tommo goes don't want to hear them  ???? thats his dilemma maybe????

some of these oldies events now scream 100% oldies guarantee, not much scope there to mess about with forgotten stuff

  3. thing is though if he aint got them then he cant play them and like you who took 30 years to get where you wanted to be why should he be fast tracked cos he cant afford the big money tunes everyone and their dog has battered to death since discovered leave it to thise that do have them,

what i will never understand is the obsession with so many to become a dj to just play what you can hear every week, is it about the music or is it about themselves ???

sorry if this comes accross as a pop at you as its not its just a reply inline with the thread

A reply from mr over easy would take this topic forward, you did start it???

What are these oldies you talk of that you just don't hear?? want to buy to play out??

Maybe more people will understand if a topic starter comes back on certain points raised from his posting???

  4. Keep your cash in your pocket Over easy, go out and enjjoy yourself, enough djs already...

Or if you want to collect then do as many of us do, really shop around and dig a little, many many quality tunes out there for very little money..

Many record dealers are on the back foot.. I collect vinyl to play it, at home our at a venue... The condition aint key to me, don't need anything near mint to dj with, many vg + play very very well and at a fraction of the price

I see so many records in boxes for sale at niters/ soul nights that will never ever sell at them prices when they are cropping up on ebay for peanuts...

    As the song says...

    " shop around"

  5. Yes a nice topic and it shows how many of us can get our fix from different sounds...

One persons pleasure is another persons poison.... Was gonna put mans but its pc Friday... biggrin.gif

As Roy says, its not about trying to explain the what soul is really, its letting us all know what soul is to you...

I find my soul in so many different ways.. It can be the expression for brief moment on a persons face as the tune plays, that moment can remain for a lifetime in my memory..

The first time i was ever on the dancefloor the same time as my wife dancing to the Rock Masters..

Having a quite moment and playing " just as long as you need me" the Four tops after hearing of the death of Levi Stubbs...

The first time i ever heard Pyramid at Warrington Parr Hall..

Sitting with frinds in an upstairs bedroom and hearing Lou Rawls, "DEAD END STREET" for the first time, plenty jazz fags and 12 repeats later and still it was not enough..

When Linda Jones sings " Dont Go ".... When Fontella Bass sings "Talkin about freedom ", ....when the Captions say " turn out the lights".... when Jo Wallace played " let me down easy" at 4am at the 100 club in the middle of a uptempo set.. When you hear Jessie Fisher sing " losing a beginner"...when you see the footage of Aretha on stage and last appearance of Levis Stubbs and his tears .... to drop the needle on a record and watch a room full of people come together for the best 2 and a half mins of your life.. When you are out on the dancefloor and in your zone, you feel every second of the song while floating on a cloud.. etc etc etc...

All of these are moments of real soul for me, the kind of moments that tell me i am truely blessed to listen to the music from the gods and to share some time with others who feel what i feel....

These and many more are moments of soul that can last a lifetime....

Have a nice weekend and get some soul in your veins xxxxxxxxxx

The dictionary talked about soul long before some person stuck the lable on it to a certain style of music..

There is soul in most aspects of music if not all i guess...

There is more soul in blues/ gospel/jazz/ than in many of the northern soul records, the blues/ gospel etc is from the very place the soul belongs and thats the heart....

Many northern soul records have made the grade on the scene for the beat alone, they have nothing at all to do with anything heart...

I have always gone for the more soulful side of the northern scene... Its the heart before the beat for me always.....

The mountain top is when the pounding beat and the heart come together in one tune, that sound and feeling that drives you onto the dancefloor is the greatest emotion alive for me.. The Likes of J B Troy and "Live ON" are what mean as heart, beat and soul... Thousands of others tooooo...

But i love my deep soul too, nothing to do with dancing at all but no person could ever tell me it aint got worth.. Deep soul ballads maybe carry the most of what we call soul...

We all have an heart ( well, most folk anyway ) , you are the one that knows your heart the best and you decide whats soul for you, its not for others to tell you..

There is no keeper of the castle... Some think they are  Its an individual feeling, when that feeling is in tune with many more i n a room its a powerful and intoxicating mix that can give you the experience of a lifetime..

All my own opinion of course....

There aint no wrong and right, its all opinion....

    But...

    Its soul or nothing!

  7. Try Kenny Bobien or Byron Stingly if you want to hear contemporary soul music to dance to.

If you want however to compare it to Northern take your head out your arse and stick to old music

F***ng same old same old debate.

Plan B a very very poor mans Common and f**k all to do with soul, pass me my syringe of gin please nurse.

you always talk in a way that gets me moist

Not going with plan B at all myself, can i share your needle Jock

  8. Are they gonna tour any other places together Al???

Charles Bradley... Really like this guy and Sharon Jones don't need no introduction....

As the years pass we will always get some artists who take early soul as an influence, same as certain bands taking influence from 60s/70s rock/ pop etc i guess...

Some will be good, some not so and others duff :hatsoff2: ..

  9. Good to see some feedback for Dave and its got something going..

Also glad to see some who do the Rimini event have their say also...

Maybe its like anything to do with soul, some will see it a different way, Benji comments that some don't like it as its been taken over by Brits in holiday mode, others say its a good mix of soulies from all over Europe, each to their own i guess...

I aint really into the mix of sun/ sea/ sand/ soul on the whole but their are plenty that do, i would prefer a bit of other culture if anytime between the soul events...

Will look at getting to the Amsterdam event, that would be a new experience for me sometime...

Plenty choice of events around Europe, that gives us all the chance to seek what we want...

A few folk see the world from a different place  , nothing new there..

    Go easy folks..

  10. Ok Benji

Thats made it a little more clear i guess..

Your original statement was short and looking like you were making a statement for all promoters in Europe....

Sent you the contact details Dave... Hope it works out...

Gonna have some more Euro profiles coming up very soon from Ireland and Spain...

  11. Rimini is a type of destination for brits on the piss, like a few other places maybe in Spain.. The Euro scene is not just a few brits on piss type places, to say both points are valid based on some hotspots is wide of the mark..

I aint looking at Rimini/ Costa del soul type places, neither is Dave i don't think... Not my bag at all... Just a good rare soul event that welcomes a group of British soulies, a group, not an invading army

I can see yoour point regarding Rimini, knowing how some Brits behave with sun and beer, i have seen the photos of these events, would not go in a million miles of these..

  12. both quite valid where  at what event Benji.. Are you speaking for yourself only..

Many of the events i listed above would welcome more folk from the uk...

On my travels i know many euro promoters who love to get uk soulies along, they use other social network sites/ websites but not soul source, many think its all about uk based events and promotions.. I hope more start to list events, always looking for travel options and soul nights..

  14. Hi Dave

Will put a message out to freinds who run events in Spain, Italy, Germany, Sweden etc etc, a euro whats on as been long overdue, it would be of great interest to many folk, the chance of a holiday and some soul at the same time.. Will get back to you asap..

One room paradise is a good freind of mine, i will speak to him later...

    cheers

  15. I don' think djs will be a problem, plenty that i know aged late teens to early 30s....

The devoted ones left will have to make more of an effort to get together to make up the numbers for a decent event they will be spread far and wide around the uk and overseas...

Smaller venues, less events for sure..

many styles played in one room also...

This sounds like the scene already outside the UK with less of a crowd to go round..

So there will be loads of djs, zillions of tunes and the old brigade sell up, but not many punters maybe...

Mystic meg says " food for thought"....

But thats the future... I can see many very active on the scene at the moment aged 40/ 55 going on for another decade or much longer... still plenty life left in this scene..

  16. yes indeed..

The topic starter was asking about the rare soul scene now in 2011, nowt to do with events when Jesus was a lad biggrin.gif

And scene means people that go beyond the bottom of the garden and get out to events... :D

The scene is a real living beast...
