Real quality John
I've run the Plumby price-check against them and there's some batches that can be had for £25 never mind £50!!! Now that is good value for money!!! Only one i'd challenge is your first batch of 70's as Billy Cee pushes it to £55-60 (imho!) but i'll let you off
Cheers
Steve
I think the Plumby price check should have its own topic

This topic could have a forum of its own...
5 tunes so close to my heart... And oh soul full of what i like in soul music..
Ural thomas... Pain is the name of your game.. for the folk who like the deep deep soul, the vocal will knock your socks off.. I call these tunes " the wrist slashers", me and Nick Hacket delight in these after a long weekend... flip side... Since you went away is also a firm choice of a few folk, nice ballad, fatastic voice indeed with sweet flute intro.. ( a Richard Bergman special )
Fab Traits.... Love is strange, monster soul funk track that i have played for many many years.. Then i only flipped it over a coujple of years ago and found one of the sweetest deep soul sides ever called Lonely man( another top wrist slasher )..
Take away the Tams.... quality early Soul/ RnB TRACK thats caught many folk out.. played this to many who have it and had not flipped it over.. The big A- SIDE is Hey Girl don't bother me..
Bill Withers... Harlem..... Another b-side of epic proportions... As folk say, hear it out loud, it just builds and builds and builds, a true delight.. The A side needs no introduction..
Betty Swan... My heart is closed for the season.... Once played this to a guy in LA and he fell off his chair.. Picked himself up and was offering me a blank cheque for a copy.. Told him to do a little search and left it at that.. He contact me to say that he found a copy for £5..
I could name a thousand more... Just dig deep into them boxes and find quality tunes that aint been battered to death and go for silly cash.. Its great to see certain events can now feature tunes like these..
That lot should be about £50 or less if you dig around...
Got a few off the lists above in the last few days.. Thanks so much for the info on quality/ cheap tuuuuunes..

Just got tickets to see this lady.. The Band on the wall is a fantastic live music venue thast been closed for a good while and now is back after a massive facelift... Details below for any others who could want to see her live...
Marlena Shaw.. Live at Band on the wall.. Swan St Manchester..
Sat 20th March 2010 - Doors open: 8pm..
Tickets £20
https://bandonthewall.org/events/2649/
One of the great singers from the 60's glory days of jazz, R&B, gospel and soul performs live at Band on the Wall!
Considered a national treasure in the USA, Marlena Shaw's 40-year career reads like a who's who's of music having fronted or played with, amongst others, Count Basie, Ray Brown, Sammy Davis Jnr, Benny Carter, Joe Williams and Frank Foster. She produced or sung on some of the era's best know hits and was also the first woman vocalist to be signed to Blue Note. With a later, highly successful foray into disco with the massive hit Touch Me In The Morning, her legacy continues as new-found fans with artists in the rap, dance and hip hop genres such as DJ Shadow, Diplo, Faze Action and St Germain sampling her work.
Expect a night featuring some of her greatest tunes such as California Soul, Mercy Mercy Mercy, Woman Of The Ghetto, Liberation Conversation, Touch Me In The Morning and many more. For a magical evening in the company of a music legend advance booking is strongly recommended.
This concert will begin at 8.30pm.

He's already got the most votes and I'll add mine to the list.......Callum. Technically very good, with an excellent collection that he knows how to use blending in big sounds with quality cheapies and some seriously good lesser knowns. Keeps the dance floor rocking and the chin strokers guessing!
It's people like Callum that we need more of on the scene if we want to keep it going. Personally I would like to see Callum (or someone similar) given a residency at one of the top niters......fast track one or two of these young guys to the top tier. Yes they need to be good enough.....can't comment on the other names mentioned as not seen them frequently enough to judge, but IMO Callum is good enough. But they also need a leg up past the politics and jealousy.....and years of 'doing their time, learning the ropes' crap. Get them on the big stage and their passion and enthusiasm will be a breath of fresh air and maybe, just maybe it will bring some of the much talked about but rarely seen 'young blood' onto the scene.
On the issue of what age is a dj considered 'young' then, again just my opinion, but 40 it def is not
. I'm 33 and wouldn't think of myself as young and I'm sure the young soulies that are around wouldn't think of 33 as being young either! I'd be looking at a 'young' DJ being under the age of 25 and at a very big stretch 30.
Adam.
Good call Adam
Yes i would be saying under 25 as young uns really......
Very good points put forward by Edu... The younger scene can play a broader mix of sounds, as can some older lot too i might add...

Spoke to Johnny at Wigan a couple of months ago about helping out in anyway,it always makes me feel good to help out others when possible... I will for something towards the pot from the both of us later...
As i have always said, we sometimes focus on the negative with regards to people and this scene but i have always known that the good folk are the majority by a long long way..
All the best to mr Fingers and his family...

Maybe a few could share a mistaken identity moment at soul events..
I have had quite a few folk ask me at Prestatyn weekenders..." what time are you on "
, they seem to think with my dark features i must be one of the acts...
setting up a table at future weekenders and charging for autographs, could make a few quid out of it maybe..
Also had a guy at Crossfire ask " are you Carl Fortnum "
..
Plus another at Cleethorpes but i really can't tell that story on here
Lydia and a certain lady at Cleethorpes last year, even i got them mixed up by the Sunday night..
Please share your mistaken moments.. A little light relief is welcome i think..
