I can't believe that this debate is still going on from the early 70ts for f*^ks sake,All soul is ok with me.
I don't know if I'm lucky or not but I'm just as happy at a Jazz Funk night or a Northern Soul all-nighter always have been I just love soul and before any one says that jazz funk is not soul just remember that is you're opinion not mine and as far as I'm concerned you can shove that opinion where the sun don't shine. If 60ts northern is you're bag then you go to a sixties northern soul night just as anyone into modern soul should go to one run like Fish and friends hold at Burton, and enjoy it as much as I do at any night playing soul records.
IF someone put a real anything goes soul event on I'd bee one of the first there
Steve J
Believe it my friend and its got a lot of milage in it yet :rolleyes..These debates just go round and round because the people posting like different stuff and all have there own take on what the scene is about... Just best to state your point once
and sit back with tin hat on.... I have many folk(60s only) saying how this and thast tunes just blown them away and then they find out its a 70s track
,its like finding out the moon aint made of cheese .. The northern scene was always 60s and 70s in the same room for us growing up in the early 80s....Mainly 60s i guess but a good percentage of what they were calling 70s modern too..
I was walking into Bury Town hall a couple of years ago when i saw a bloke leaving through the same door... He said "don't go in there Steve, they are playing that bloody northern"
,well it is a northern soul venue as it says on the flyer i told him... He just shot off into the dark..Many folk go to venues that play music they don't like, some folk are born Victor Meldrews, keep away and leave it to those having a good time...
Don't have to debate on what rocks my boat, can do that by voting with my feet..I will only go to events that do it for me,ther is more than enough choice for all if you look in the events guide...
Have fun and just go where you wanna go,it aint gonna change anything just bashing the keys on here... Get out there and support the venues you like....Long time gone and all that..

Manifesto
Now that was another one I did not like to tackle on the dance floor
Remember a lad who could spin to the last section of the record, you know that trumpet bit that seems to go on forever, yeh he just kept spinning & spinning
made me fookin giddy just watching him
Loved dancing to that monster but would leave the floor just before the crazy ending, the few who were left were taking away by the men in white coats
..Not many have taken on the end of that tune, well i aint seen that many, just a few with a bit of 4 star rocket fuel inside them..

I think its harder to dance to some real downbeat stuff...Many have filled the floor to super stompers but don't really know what to do when a deeeeeeeeep down funeral march, slash your wrist soul track is played...Oooooh i do like a few of them thrown in...
A good few deeeep soul tracks could be heard in the 90s at all niters..There was a guy who would stand on the spot, very little movement, eyes closed and a little shiver of is upper half now and again, real emotion indeed,i loved to see him on the dancefloor as much as any of the circus acts
... I called his dance,Man going for a shit
i have be known to copy that style the odd time
...
Thats the point with dancing, some just think about all the fast stuff,i love to dance to soul in all its forms... Well maybe not the 300mph stuff, just a liitle to frantic for a quiet lad like me...Each to there own...
I hope you can all put on deeeeeeeeeeeeep soul record at home tonight and do the "man going for shit"..close the curtains first though, people could think you are having a stroke
good bless all the dancers and each to there own...Without them we would not have a scene, well not one that i and many would want...
In the words of Jimmy Rix "oooooooooooooh what a feeling, you got me rockin and a reeling"

Agree totally Si. No way would i spend further big 'cash' on records now. Got to be trades all the way with the odd bit of 'little' money maybe if I see something i really fancy in a sales box at a venue.
Spending big money on records or crippling the credit card? Forget it. For me - It's All Over, It's All Over...............
Decent trades anyone? That's where the 'chase' is for me now....
Steve
yes indeed..Its seems that quite a few big records have been picked up with trades of late..Trades is the way forward but thats no good for a person wanting to sell up for there nest egg..

Hi Stevie,
Not sure about the price on the BP but i've a question about the record in your avitar, i bought a copy of this recently & the first track on side 1 (can't rememeber the title but it's a nice uptempo dancer that would go down well at an NS do imo) starts off loudly & then goes quite a bit quieter, is this the same on your copy or is mine knackered?
Simon
Not in my collection mate, just a bif fan in genral...Here is some info..
The EP was a 1965 release, well into Dusty's solo career, but much earlier than her long term association with America began. It contains a good selection of material not available on her singles:- Live It Up/I Want Your Love Tonight / I Wanna Make You Happy/Now That You're My Baby
Pulling The Wool Over Our Eyes
in All About the SOUL
I think the Four Tops were on in two seperate venues on the same night in Yorkshire once
...
If the promoter said covers band in the flyer then all would be ok

Like it says in the horror film from the 50s... "Watch the skys, keep watching the skys"
... They are coming to get us...
