There was also an album released off the back of the US Hanna Barbera Saturday morning
Harlem Globetrotters,TV seriesfrom 1971.This was the first cartoon show to feature an entirely Afro - American cast of characters.
The series was produced by US entertainment empresario Don Kirshner who produced and released the
album, which despite songs penned by J R Bailey and Rudy Clark, has no savings graces IMO , consisting of total bubblegum pop.
Album and 45 released in the UK on RCA.
Houseparty by Bailey and Clark:

The Brenda and the Tabulations version is also worth a listen:

Whats the value on each?
Any ideas
Regards
I would say £50 for the original and half that for the re-issue.
Value seems to have fallen off over recent times, a bit of a tricky dancer for middle aged soulies, methinks.

All, I was looking into the history of the Promises, a white girl group from Cleveland who recorded this song (as 'another girl') for Brunswick/BRC. I presume the Chi-Lites version ('another man') was first.....are there other versions?
Quote from Tony Drake's website:
"The Chi-Lites introduced Living In The Footsteps Of Another Man in 1972 on their gold album; A Lonely Man featuring their number one hit Oh Girl. In 1988 Footsteps showed up on The Pasadenas, To Whom It May Concern. Their debut album soared past platinum in England including the debut chart topper tribute; Right On. Living In The Footsteps of Another Man is a classic that has been recorded by Reggaes Dennis Brown, Delroy Wilson, Alton Ellis and Gregory Isaacs. Disco version by Maryann Farra and Satin Soul; Living In The Footsteps of Another Girl has a unique sound.
The song has now been released in Italian on the new CD, Cora by La Pina E Soul Kingdom.
Living In The Footsteps of Another Man has been recorded many times but not until NOW by the MAN WHO LIVED THE SONG, The MAN WHO WROTE THE SONG; Tony Drake!! On his soon to be released CD, The Tony Drake Collection"

In my opinion a rather crappy 80's UK version exists by The Pasadenas, here:

The original 1960s Motown/Jobete acetates and demos should be VERY valuable. The early 1980s acetates/demos shouldn't be worth anywhere near those, but they are also dead rare, so I'd guess they'd get what people are willing to pay. The fact that there was a legitimate? (or, at least mass release) later, with picture jacket (was it around 1990?), will hold down the value those 1981 pressings.
From recollection wasn't the picture sleeve 45 cut as a limited Edition as a free bee at some US Motown promotional event back in the early 1990's?
There was a story doing the rounds that many of them were just discarded by the attendees at the time, as the folks weren't interested in the vinyl.
Or was this just urban myth?

FYI
I was recently the subject of a rather objectionable e mail, threatening me with legal action
for just linking "Bootlegs and Re-issues" together in the title of an on line photo collection, of 45 record scans.
It made me realise how dangerous it can be referring to a series of records as "bootlegs"
without any material evidence.

Hi
Looking for opinions/estimates on current price of:
EMOTIONS - I LOVE YOU BUT I'LL LEAVE YOU (TWIN STACKS)
Thanks in advance..
Picked a vg copy up earlier this year for $10 - didn't realise it was so collectable.
It was amongst an auction of top northern tunes where all the bidding was concentrated.
Anyway Popsike values here:

I found it, with about 20 others, clearing out my Father's attic. He said he got them from a friend of his who worked for the company and got them out of the Donovan building. So are there no other known ones? That was my main question here. I don't really care what it's worth since I'm not getting rid of it, but I'm 95% sure its genuine considering the source and the others with it. I'll see what I can do in regards to a scan/picture.. Don't have an iPhone so can't do that method.
I suppose a full listing is not a possible ?

Bought this as a new release from Black Wax in Streatham, but probably for the other side. Must admit I didn't cotton on to the backing track. The producer isn't Gladys from memory it's Garry, but could be wrong. He (DB) had a Motown cover which was popular at the time too. Ah "This old heart of mine"!
correct, Gary Knight:.
I think that he co wrote a number of Mitch Ryder hits with Bob Guadio, including "you get your kicks" and "breakout"
Same fellow as in Dey (Tracey) and Knight(Gary)signed to Columbia.
I think that he also wrote with Bob Crewe:
There's another tune by them that I can't remember at the mo.
Ahh here it is:
"Sayin' Something'" / "Ooh Da La Da Lay" (1966) Columbia #43693

Having previously bought a couple of much, much cheaper stax/volt issues from the same seller, I have to say that they
were in superb condition, pristine.

Once again, the mystery of the JM auctions. JACKIE TRENT - ONLY ONE SUCH AS YOU - PICCADILLY. This attained the incredible price of £184 in a January auction, and of course in the next few weeks loads of copies turned up for sale on Soul Source, from £40 to £70 mainly. Many of us were astonished at the auction price as prior to that it was worth about £10.
Anyway it would be interesting to know if anyone actually sold a copy. I picked one up off Ebay, from the Soul section, for £6.50 on sunday, and that despite there were 11 bids, nobody bid higher than £6.50!

The same has happened several times, most notably with the Jackie Edwards "Come On Home" which went for £300 plus despite it only being worth £20. I sold a mint one to someone who offered me £80 for it but otherwise I struggled to get £20 for my other spare copy.
I think the auctions are great entertainment but I am still trying to work out why people pay astonishing sums of money for such common records, records which can easily be found cheaply with a couple of mouse clicks.
Bidded on that Jackie Trent myself, though I didn;t know that it had any value at all.Just liked the tune.

Received two records from the States today, graded as VG that should have been graded knackered!
My experience is that UK sellers are much more up front and conservative in their grading.
A lot of amateur ebayers know bugger all about quality and just see $$$$$$ when it comes to Soul.
Records graded Good ish, are virtually worthless to sell on so I find many go for the soft option and grade VG or above .
After all with postal prices now being what they are, it's easier to take it on the chin, if you bid and your bargain turns out a dud.in.
If you've got the dosh, buy from Anglo, Moerer or Manship go for quality if you can.
Sorry just my experience, buying on a limited budget.
Interesting thread though.

I sell reissues from the like's of Tramp. jazzman, Soul sevens , outa site, soul junction and alike. These are all bone fide legal and legit in the same molding as say Ace/Kent ect. They're alway's licenced and good quality and legal Tramp make the labels look like the originals but usually add the word Tramp where the original label title would be.A lot of this is mainly funk/west Indian funk and calipso type stuff with a few modern/northern track's being done. Most are ltd release 250 - 500 and alot are numbered.they're stocked and sold by big internet company's in Europe and beyond and only a small amount get to the U.K.I normally have 10 of each and rarely restock unless i get people asking for a title which has usually gone or been deleted. As a long term collector and occasional dj i don't feel li................................... so guy's what do you think am i wrong to sell legit reissues or not ? if the feeling is strong enough i'll stop selling them .
Licensed re-issues are no problem in my book, though many serious collectors abhor them. I reckon anyone selling the legit re-issues is supporting the music industry in a positive way, keep it up!
