As an Amateur / spare time scooter scene soul dj but long term soul devotee and vinyl collector, after 15 years of playing to people expecting the same/similar sound and feeling jaded, myself and some of my conspiritors have started taking our music to illegal/free parties and back street mashups as a kind of Novelty. when offered a large club backroom we claim to play "funky house/breaks/beats" then go straight into 7" northern tracks and dont expect them to pay us but theyve no choice but to leave us on.
the funny thing is we never fail to get brilliant reactions from the punters, its like their ears have been unblocked!! we call this Guerilla soul! so if youre driving through the Yorkshire country side at 2 in the morning and youre sure can hear "now that you love me" by cookie Jackson drifting on the wind, youre passing a rave thats been soul-jacked.
