  1. I'm not old enough to have been a skinhead and I've never really had anything to do with the mod/scooter scene. My interest in ska & rocksteady comes straight from a love of old time ska sound systems, and so the stuff I play out is generally a lot different to the kinda ska/rocksteady that gets played at scooter/mod/skinhead do's. I just can't get in to the '69 beat (although I love a lot of early 7ts 'version'). Saying that, I've just got hold oa a killing reggae tune which sounds just on the wrong side of '68 - STRINGS & THINGS by Tommy McCook. I think it came out on Island, but I've landed a nice blank. Anybody else out there got my '69 aversion or digging this tune?? Dave Mack www.myspace.com/thecooloff

With very few exceptions, I always get rid of my UK issues if I manage to get a JA blank or label copy of a tune. I'm not a 'collector' - I just want to have the tune in its finest splendour, and that almost always means having the JA blank - full bass and treble! There must be something special about pressing 45s in the west indies, 'cos the JA cuts always leave the UK presses for dead. A great case in point is ALL MY LOVING. The UK FAB issue is so weak compared to a JA issue......and Dr Ring Ding is probably the worst example of a UK press sounding horribly wrong. So, for me, I almost nevr buy UK issues. If I could just get myself a JA "The Prophet" (Buster & Slim Smith)........ Dave Mack www.myspace.com/thecooloff
  3. Looking to try and get one of these - not keen on the flip - but the "I can't wait" side is really doing it for me right now. what's a reasonable price nowadays? www.myspace.com/thecooloff

you got it in one. makes me feel a lot better. looks unplayed and got it for less than £150 so probably a good deal. lovely tune
  5. Picked this up recently - great tune - but the quality of the label text is decididly weak - anybody aware of this being booted?
  6. Anybody else got this on a UA demo - where the music sounds like it's coming in and out of the speakers everytime the vocals come in, and then by the ned of the track it sounds like he's outside in the street? www.myspace.com/thecooloff

The glue looks old (if that maks any sense!!), the paper label has that original feel (not glossy) and the printing is pretty spot on - I just had a bad feeling as I pulled it from its sleeve and saw the label coming off.......thanks to both. www.myspace.com/thecooloff

Got a very bad feeling about a recent purchase - AROCK - DIMPLOMATS - CARDS ON THE TABLE The label is half peeling off the B-side and the vinyl just doesn't feel right - styrene like. The Matrix on the A-side has a prominent X and 12-2 963 1000A, B-side 12-2 963 1000A Am I looking at a boot??? Cheers Birder66 (8 days til Scilly)
