  1. Gotta be said, Mr Jones is a vastly underrated DJ, and a top bloke too!!

White bull is a great event, as is Wakefield City Soul Club @ Red Bar (Yorkshire).

I know neither of these are over your way but some times it pays to travel and you wont be dissappointed!

As been mentioned, the EMS forum is best place to suss out soul on the modern side.

Dont ignore events talk on here either though.

  2. I have a mint copy of this great uptempo 70's dancer for sale. It's on the International label, price is 20 pounds including postage anywhere and paypal if sent as a gift please. P.M. me if interested. Thanks, Tony. OZ.

    A mighty fine tune!!

    reasonable price too

Please can someone provide details of the peeps who run on the scene flyer / leaflet thingy?

    Need their contact details.

Also, does anyone know what their cut off dates are for submitting advert requests etc?

    Cheers

    Azza

P.S - apologies to mods if this is in the wrong place, please move as you see fit.

Superb topic this, and with the knowledge and musical taste of people on here, people might just be digging behind the coutch to cobble 50 large one's together at this very moment.

Got a spare grand or so and you're well on your way to a decent collection!!

I notice that everyone thus far has posted 45's lists. Interesting to see some LP / LP only tracks lists.......or is that another thread? g.gif

  5. I'm on about a full on full tilt allnighter not a comfort zone soul night

Think most people on this site who've been to Beat Boutique & That Driving Beat would tell you both nights are anything but comfort zone soul nights.

We're out of teh running anyway, old gits Liam & Paul are 27, and im 26 so Simon and Amie are streaks ahead in the young gun stakes, and having attended their night many times, really know how to please the punters!!

  8. ok cheers for the info, shame cos its a good venue for a soul do with its proper wooden floor etc, don t do scooter do's myself but might try out that other thing..

Last time i went to Irish Centre, which was on the afformentioned soul do, it had a plastic tiled floor type thing. Was slippy enough though, especially with a bit of talc.

The venue for That Driving Beat is brilliant for a soul do, generates lots of atmosphere, great sound system.........and the all important wooden floor.

    See you there mate!

  9. Seen a Jaber And a Mainstream go through ebay not long since (in last 6 months) for £210 & 150 respectively if memory serves me right.

Both were VG+ but sounclips played much better.

Havent seen one come up since but these were within a month of each other.

Ebay doesnt allow me to keep items that far back in my watched items otherwise i'd have posted links.

    GREAT GREAT tune

  10. Dead in the water this one im afraid!!

The guy who was promoting it (a friend of mine from work, Liam Frisco) did a couple of them.

I DJ'd at the second event, but it was after this one he decided not to carry it on.

Liam DJ's at Norman's bar in town playing funk and disco mainly, and promotes similar nights. He likes northern, but isnt that into it. He's a good promoter though and his ma n pa are bang into northern.......regulars at nights like Drax and Brighouse, lovely people too!

If you're looking for stuff to do in Leeds events wise, get yourself over to That Driving Beat on the LAST FRIDAY OF EVERY MONTH. It's down at The Wardrobe and going great guns (sorry for teh shameless plug here).

There's also the Leeds Central Scooter Club annual bash at Irish Centre later this month (contact Matty Sherlock on here for details - think he's down just as Matty).

    Cheers

  11. I have almost made it over a couple of times so far....2009 was a very "almost" year!

Eddie Wainwright...now that name sounds familiar, although there's probably a few Eddie Wainwrights in Yorkshire:rolleyes: How old is he ? Fortyish?

Indeed he is, plays a lot of the mod do's and this year did Brid weekender / Riley Smith Hall. Also resident for VFM at the big scooter rallies. You cant miss Eddie, Shaved head, big burners, always smartly dressed.

Hopefully That Driving Beat, Leeds, will be on this list in 2010 :good: but for now.........

Nighter - Toss up between Rugby & NCS, mainly because i love what they do in their alternative rooms (freestyle-eeeee!)

Soul do - Greatstones (rare / underplayed) & Red Bar, Wakefield (modern / crossover / 70's), both have great music policies and people.

Charity do - Anything related to Soul In The Sun (The recent Keighly SIS event springs to mind)....Eddie's raised over £20k this year for Cancer Research, fecking amazing effort.

  13. Get over the pennines to That Driving Beat, Leeds Sharon.

Next night is Jan 29th, and last Friday of every month. Got Flanny booked on as our Jan guest.

I'm sure me or Mr Buckley could put you up for the night, or jump on the late train back to Manc at 3 o'clock (do finishes at about 2.30). Check out some of the lookbacks

Used to spin this regularly at that driving beat, always went down well, people asking who it was, fullfloor etc.

First heard eddie edmondson play it on his solar radio show about two years ago, went out and bought one straight away. Managed to get it on a Janus white demo for 15 nicker!

Fantastic atmospheric tune with a deep gritty vocal that you'd expect from cissy.

Gonna play it next at the January TDB, thanks for posting Ian
