I agree with you Dave, but mine is a personal view, I know some guys who would`nt play in their own back garden at a barbeque for less than £150, and thats up to them, its something I really enjoy, never a chore so why charge more. When I collected my DJ fee at Prestatyn this year I saw a list with everyones name and fee on it............you would be suprised........... Chris.

I was (tonight) asked to DJ at a venue 30 miles away and I said I charged £50 if the promoter had a good night, nothing if he did`nt break even. I DJ`d the other week and the place was half empty, really enjoyed myself but would`nt take a penny. I suppose its because this is the way other DJs used to be with me when I promoted. DJing to me is an honour and a pleasure, I know its not the same for everyone but thats my personal view, and I really enjoy it too. Bearing in mind that I (and many others) could play 10k worth of records in an hour I dont think £50 is too much...... Chris

When Shifty and I are in the States he always takes the piss that "No-one knows more cheap end 70s shite than you"! To be honest he is right, I`ll happily riffle through boxes at record shows all day finding 10 and 15 quid 70s and crossover records for a buck a piece. I usually get a bollocking for picking up too many Willie Hutch records but I must admit this does seem to be my area of expertise! My faves for picking up include; Larry Santos-I cant get you out of my mind-Casablanca Natural Four-You cant keep running away-Curtom Impressions-I`ll always be here-Curtom Major Lance-Everything I need-Osrisis David Ruffin-No matter where-Motown Lots of people seem unaware of the quality of these tunes, cheap but brilliant! The Traditions is definatly a black group with a strong black lead vocal. I heard the 2 versions side by side and could`nt really tell the difference. I think Shifty traded his copy, although he may still have it, actually he may have a Demon hot version too, we got a couple of each from the producer a couple of years ago. I`ll keep hold of my Traditions for now thanks! Chris

I`d be only too pleased to tell everybody that LITTLE JOHN from Scunthorpre is a completely untrustworthy robbing bastard.........a few years ago he had some great tunes from me at a soul night with the "You know me, I`ll pay you next week" line, I trusted him and I eventuially got £50 a year later.
