  3. My Dad went to the Wheel so there was always soul records in the house while I was growing up. Aged 13 or 14 I started to take more interest in the music and i`d sit and play it for hours, usually the classic Atlantic,Stax, motown stuff. Left school in 86, started going to a few local soul nights and met a guy called Beano from Burton who taped me loads of his stuff. About this time I started listening to Dave Evison on Signal and taping his shows. Soon I started going to nighters and met Gilly, he loaned me his entire collection for 2 months, I taped the lot and that was it........Hooked! Starting DJing at Bretby in 91, bookings followed as did plenty of trips to the States looking for records, slowed down a bit on attending events these days, mainly due to work and my dabble in dealing records and but still obsessed with it in my spare time. The biggest buzz I get from it now is finding the records in the US although I still love DJing. Chris For regular lists of rare soul 45s please send an email to chris.soul@btinternet.com
  4. My next list, number 5 will be dropping thru your email boxes very soon. However there is still time to subscribe to my sales Cds. For a fiver you receive 3 monthly CDs containing at least 50 samples of tracks from the monthly sales list. You will receive the Cds at least 24 hours before the list goes out so you get first choice of any records listed. I`ve been producing the sales Cds for some time now and always receive positive feedback on the quality of them, I try to include something for everyone. You can paypal me £5.00 to chris.soul@btinternet.com or send cash or cheque to; Chris Anderton 1 Swan Court Stapenhill Rd Burton on Trent Staffs De15 9AY
  5. I remember John Manship telling me it came out on the ORIGINAL label under 2 different numbers, when I got home I had them both and sure enough there was a slight difference. Forget the talk about the 90s re-issue, it came out twice on the original label. Awesome tune by the way! Chris
  6. I found a copy in the US last year then I was out there with Shifty 9 months later and we were talking about this record. He was saying how good "I didnt try" was but I`d never played it, didnt know it was a double sider I was busy with the other side "I know the inside story"! nice suprise when I got home and spun it, of course I know it when I heard it. Yes, it was tavares. Chris
  7. I love ebay.............same old idiots looking for the same old records while the good ones just slip through!! Nice stuff though, you should get a good price on that type of stuff.............. Chris
  8. I like the Brunswick label best. Love the way they look, especially the demos, plus the records are always pure quality. Chris
  9. Been after this for years myself, never seen it for sale, get in touch if you have 2 copies!!! chris
  10. Guys, Hey, You can all have one!! Three copies is nothing, I had one myself, one for me to sell and one for my mate to sell and they are gone!! Thats why i think if 20 copies of a record turn up then thats nothing, just a blip on the rarity of a record. I just gotta tell you the full story; We were in the US for 3 months, me and my mate from school, Stuart. He has only a basic knowledge of soul. As we were driving along he said "there is a shop in this city about an hour away" "Is it worth a look?" says I....... Stu phoned the shop and says "Yeah its worth stopping for" We get into the store and the place is packed with kids listening to a grungy band at one end of the room, I just killed him with a look! We went downstairs to look at only 3 boxes of 45s, I pull out a Paul Thompson and while explaining exactly what it is Stu is holding a Will collins on Bareback in his hands! To cut a long story short we spent 2 days in that store milking the stock, going thru the back room. Since then the owner has put me onto some great contacts in the area and I`ve been back time and time again. Happy days! Chris
  11. Steve, God We hammered that record at bretby, I think you got me my copy I remember it being covered as Patience Valentine too, I think Rudzi and dave Ingle had copies also. Still got mine, does`nt get out too much these days, but would never sell it! chris
  12. Its listed in Manships book as barbary coast 100 but the copy I have it has barbary coast 101 on the label too, the label is a glossy silver grey colour. It has`nt been re-issued has it? Chris PS, hammy, I love this feeling I have too, what a tune, never hear it out either!
  13. "Be prepared to pay/The price is too much to pay" on barbary coast. In the current manship book at £250, is it any good? (I dont know it) and is the value about right? TIA Chris.
  14. Anyone want to sell me Larry williams "You ask me for one good reason" on Okeh? I`ll pay the £75 in Manships book. chris.soul@btinternet.com Cheers, chris
  15. I believe it is, both versions are good but it seems to be the Hazel Martin that has interest on the dance floor. I still have this available if you are interested. Chris
  16. Send Me your address and i`ll send you a free sales CD, full of over 50 tracks, all quality, mostly cheapies and great value for money, mail me at chris.soul@btinternet.com Cheers, chris MIDAS TOUCH RECORDS

  18. . Firstly it has been maybe 2 years since they began the campaign and it has made no difference to our scene whatsoever. Has anyone genuinely met someone at a soul event who has decided to check out a rare soul event since seeing the ads? .................. I was in the canteen at work when the KFC Bobby Garrett track came on. A girl said to me "Oh I like this music" "Yeah me too" said I, a couple of Cds followed and now her, her husband and 2 friends attend 2 soul nights per month and cant get enough if it! She was only moaning to me yesterday that I had`nt told her about Prestatyn and now it has sold out! Chris

  21. I`ve been re-activating Moment of truth "So much for love" on salsoul lately, wonderful up-tempo dancer. Chris
  22. Thanks guys, Its on its way from the US, will be on my list shortly unless I fall in love with it then I`ll convince myself I need to keep it! I dont think I know the record, sure I will when I hear it. Shifty said he listed his last copy (a few yeras ago) at £150 and had over 20 calls for it. Chris
  23. Ok, On the same trip when I encountered the queen of NY city, we were travelling in the middle of nowhere when Stu (my mate I was travelling with) says "There is a little shop about 50 miles away, I`ll give them a ring, he says they have quite a few 45s so its worth a look, so we turned off the freeway looking for a shop in a small town in missisippi, we found the shop and as we walked in all we could see was rows of Cds and a grungy band were playing at one end of the room, I gave Stu the filthiest look, but then he pointed to a "Vinyl downstairs" sign, when we got down there I said "Fuckin great, all this way for 3 boxes of 45s". we started flicking thru and I pulled out a copy of Paul Thompson "special kinda woman" on volt, I turned to celebrate and stu is holding the B side to Will Collins "Anything I can do" on bareback. Imagine how I felt when I turned over yet another Paul Thompson, a j.O.B Orquestra and unbelievably a THIRD copy of Paul Thompson! We found some other nice cheaper stuff too and I sent Stu off to pay for the records upstairs, the total was $23, including tax! We proceeded to find some other cheapies then the guy let us in the back room, found loads of £30 to £50 stuff in there all for a couple of $$ each. two days later we settled our bill and concluded we had about 6k Uk out of there for around $400, it was only this high because I paid $150 for Frankie and the Damons, "I`m really sorry to charge you that much but thats what it says in this book" Says the helpless shop keeper, holding up a nice copy of MANSHIPS price guide! So he can spot Frankie and the Damons but cant see paul Thompson listed in there!! We had a Steak meal for tea that night!!!!! Chris.
