I've had a couple of great conversations with Barry Tasker in recent years at The Wheel , concerning The Pendulum ,West 4th Steet by Valerie and Bobby Capers [ Atlantic ] was the " ender " at this venue .Richard S . did a great tribute show on Jazz FM with Dave White , Richard reckoned that " I got the fever " was the record which really defined The Pendulum for him .Best,Eddie

Not sure that he ever has been over. When I was concert going regularly in the 70s I certainly didn't get to see him. Would love to before it's too late though.
I've got a review in an old B&S from a certain Richard Searling around 72' when he played a club in Bolton , will try and find it .One of the true greats ..........Best,Eddie

Has Margo Thunder " Soul of a woman " and Paul Humphrey " Cochise " been mentioned [ sorry if I've missed them ] .I def. heard them on my first visit to the Mecca in September [ 28th ] 1974 along with The Present " Many's the slip " [ Phillips ] which we requested as we hadn't heard it before [ touted as the vocal to Bok to Bach at the time ] Remember Ian saying "I'll play it but it's not very good ". The listings below date only from the period AFTER the Highland Room playlists began
to shift toward a high proportion of new releases, (which is what personally attracted me
to attend the Mecca after mid-74)
A more comprehensive listing of rare 60s recordings played in the period 1970-1974
is featured in the broader 'Northern Soul' playlists that proceed this one, and which
it is hoped will ultimately include the wide variety of music featured at MANY UK venues,
not just Blackpool. The information is taken from a variety of sources including ads in B&S, the Dave Godin & Frank Elson's columns, DJ interviews, 'Live' tapes etc.etc. This will be added to substantially in due course (hopefully).
The first section (February-August) includes notable Highland Room spins played during
that initial transitional period, most of which continued to be popular for several months
afterwards. The Carstairs (listed as being played between C.Feb. and Nov.1974) is used as
a convenient link between the two periods, nothing more. IT IS NOT MY INTENTION TO
ARGUE WHO "FIRST PLAYED" A PARTICULAR RECORD!, just an attempt to list them in
some kind of chronological order of play.
The small 'p' that proceeds the date refers to that particular record being played at that time, according to the the earliest references I have found. Any definite confirmation for earlier dates - along with additions - will be added as the listing(s) evolve.
