Brilliant tape...hope there is more, was a different world back then to now, still exciting with many characters, brilliant music & new discoveries, inovative DJ's with bollox....a million miles away from the purile nostalgia trip of today...I can just hear some of the derogatory comments now....
Need to hear more of this stuff....BTW Shute re: Colin Law....'kin great DJ as were many of the Scottish lads back then (& now).

Oh yes, totally agree with that so may as well throw in 2 others to make the numbers up.
Also hate Sister Sledge - Love Don't Go Through No Changes On Me. Terrible record & why oh why have such a long title, 8 bloody words for God's sake.
The third one & the Emperors new clothes record. Pyramid - Soul Brothers Inc. Now you know you all hate it but are afraid to admit it because it's fashionable to say you love it as you think everyone else loves it but I'll let you into a secret. They hate it too but are scared to admit it for exactly the same reason as you.
Oh Martin....I bloody Love Soul Bros Inc & have since it was first played as Mel Britt...a record that cracks me up every time...is it having a revival ?...hope they dont thrash it to death...
Coming bang up to date - altho I havnt heard it played out at a Nighter yet over a booming system, that 'Loveseed' thing in the cold light of day sounds like a third rate Motown reject...I will however reserve my final judgment until I have heard it out at a venue.
Im struggling to find others that I 'hate'...dont hate much, just sometimes things were 'of the time' & dont travel well, others are good records but just thrashed to death & need retiring for a bit..........

Just wonderin...are there still places in the US were you can buy quantity of soul 45's ?....Im not talking the ebay 'lots' which appear on the whole to be pot luck & contain a lot of lesser grade & other genre 45's...
In this day n age, I wouldnt think there was any chance of finding 'known' collectors items, but just wondered if you could pick up quality soul records in bulk still ?.
I missed the hey day where you could do this, both here in the UK & in the US, as I was quite late into my collecting phase of my soul journey, being mostly just a dancer & listener....

I was record hunting in New Orleans the week before Katrina hut and I then went back a year or so after. Both times I found plenty of records, so don't think lots of vinyl got wiped out, though perhaps water damaged labels. I'd tell your mate to start off at Jim Russell's shop on Magazine street.
I was there week before Katrina too...

Little Sister & the Echoettes - Up Above My Head This has had a few plays from Sam, but should be huge in the right rooms.
United Sounds - Its All Over Baby. Not unknown by any means, but this will reach legendary status in 2013....awesome...n I want one !!!
Tommy & the Derbys - Going Back to Houston. Nev put this in my radar, I knew about this but had never clocked it properly, Nev has excellent taste & this a deffo winner - hope I havnt stepped on his toes with this, but needs to be heard n played.
My three...

This is known and wanted by a few(sorry guys). First played by Paul Sutton many moons ago but only a few of us picked up on it.Took me years to find this bugger: From Brazil of all places:
Really think once copies turn up or sold to the bigger boys, this will go massive.
MONSTER....always gets a great reaction when ever I play this....good call my friend.

Its been a mixed year for me really. Personally - working in Baghdad is a bummer, away from family, friends & soul, I really miss my wife & son, but on the up side, I have job. I have had some health issues which have come to light, but hopefully nothing that cant be sorted.
Despite the world ending, the Rare/Soul Scene continues, still loads of venues I would like to support, records I want to dance to, DJ's I want to hear & records I want to own....still discovering fabulous soul music from all decades & genres & long may it continue.
Soul Source has been my main link, along with updates from friends to this thing of ours & for this I would like to thank Mike & all the Mods for thier continued hard work running this great Soul Music magazine.
Again we continue to lose more of our soul heroes this year & a few friends have gone to the big Nighter in the sky, but they will continue to live on forever in our hearts & on our dancefloors & decks, I feel gratefull for having had our lives touched by the music from the artists & the friends who we have shared the music with .
I have been very lucky that I have sourced a lot of great tuneage this year, including a couple of long term 'wants'. Due to working in the friggin desert havnt been as active venue or DJ wise, altho have still attended quite a few Nighters n soul nights up & down the country - DJing is frustrating, as I have had to turn down a lot of spots this year due to my unpredictable jaunts back to blighty - but have managed a few sets at short notice, which were all very enjoyable.
Im away for Xmas
, but back home with my family for New Year
, also looking forward to what is promising to be a fantastic Nighter at NQ Live in Manchester on the 28th - cant wait to be back behind the decks at a Nighter & looks like many friends will be there too, so Im looking forward to a good dance un a catch up.
All in all, I feel blessed to have a good job, loving family, fab friends & great taste in soul music
.
Happy Christmas & a Supa Soulful New Year & 2013
Peace, Love n Soulfulness for 2013 brethren

Both sides blinding NS in my top 5 ever, Man Oh Man was covered up by Butch..... G Davis & R Tyler ???...memories not what it was.......the intro on MOM is one of the most memorable ever & at its height when the Butchmeister span this it was a clarion call to the dance floor.....totally monstrous NS anthen, rammed dance floors to bustin every where....BRILLIANT !!!
Im not joking when I say MOM chokes me right up, as well as being an epic piece of stormin soulful dance, it conjures up happy memories of a time on the scene for me which was also my personal best....one day I will own this record...might be a lottery win, remortgage or just good luck, but it will be mine one day...

Rare Soul Deejay Butch 1991 Yarmouth

The Mike Jemison on the tape was a big play at Cleethorpes, probably Poke. RS MIM Cover up was a different MJ track. I have it at home & on the lp I think, but title escapes now....The MJ on the tape is brilliant....
