My husband complains that I spend too much time on SS and I am more or less banned after 8pm but sometimes I sneak on when he goes for a bath. Is that the SS equivalent of hiding bottles of vodka in the airing cupboard?

Erm, no I'm not sure it is quite the same.
Whenever I've attended a sportsman's dinner the invited speaker has tended to tell entertaining anecdotes for about 45 minutes, and then sit down before the stories become dull.
This thread has become more like a few pensioners spending every afternoon at the day centre talking wistfully about their youth whilst playing dominoes. One old boy remembers more than the others, although he sometimes struggles to remember what he had for breakfast that day, but in time the subject matter has become of limited interest to those who are not sitting round that table.
I like all the old stories myself, the 70s must have been the best time to grow up...everything nowadays is so disposable

Oh no has this turned into another OV/boots/youngsters on the scene thread
And it started off so promising as well
If only there was a sound button you could press when those subjects came up...instead of report to moderator maybe you could have the family fortunes aggh aggh sound or the siren from QI that they use when Alan Davies gets the question wrong.....

Sadly only two thousand. Loads of people watched her vids on YouTube, loads of people played it all over the world (one radio station in New York has played the whole album every day for a year now), but the sales were low for such an expensive project. At the end of the day it all boils down to promotion. If I sell two thousand of "Northern Soul 2008", then I'm happy, as I never expected it to have huge sales figures and we keep our costs right down to a minimum. If Sony hadn't originally paid so much money to record Ebony's album, it would never have happened in the same way, as these days, unless you're Amy Winehouse, no-one but no-one could afford to spend that kind of budget on a record. This is why all the smaller labels have now gone out of business and we only have four majors left. The music business is screwed.
I like the Marva Hicks cover

But why are you bothered about what they play in between the dance sequences? Surely it doesn't matter-it isn't a documentary about Wigan Casino. It's a movie about a young lad who finds love against the odds in 1974 with a backdrop of Wigan Casino. I'm sure they played all kinds of music in public places in 1974 so if you want authenticity you should be asking for Slade, Trex etc surely? I am just as anti Duffy etc as the rest of you but they probably just think it will help soundtrack sales if they use these artists for some of the non dancing scenes?
-
I can't comment as I've not seen any of the films you've mentioned, but I am curious about the last one - 24 Hour Party People.
The music?
Did they use cover versions in the film?
No they didn't Joan. But they did have live scenes with actors pretending to sing. ALthough that was actually more of a biography of the Manchester music scene to be fair. I probably wouldn't have compared it to Souled Out.
Although I am with you Joan, got to be original artists for the Casino dancing scenes if its to be authentic

I already discussed this with Mike by private e-mail.
And I am merely directly answering questions.
And I only joined because some of the comments on this topic offended every fibre of my being.
And I'm no hypocrite and I'm not going to behave in any fashion that's not true to myself. If therefore you'd like me to leave again, no probs.
You can't leave now it's all getting exciting
Not been this kind of debate since errrrrr the last "youngsters on the NS scene thread"....
By the way (on topic) Ipsofacto called me to be an extra on Saturday (I don't remember filling the form in to be honest-must have done it after a few drinkies)....but I can't go as I will be bouncing on a castle and eating birthday cake (possibly at the same time)..
Maybe I can practise me backdrops just in case they get really desperate and call me again

I much preferred when we disagreed all the time Dave, this is no good for my Mr Grumpy rep!
But yes Dave hits the nail on the head here, and actually thank goodness, as a film about NS is unfilmable IMHO, so a story set around people where it is an integral part of their lives is surely the only way to do, otherwise you would be as well just showing Steve Catos excellent short looped for 90 minutes.
I think the bit most agree on is they should use original music and Keb seems to trust them on this bit so, maybe we should wait and see.
Joans other point about being exploited for resources, dont think anyone can disagree with that, they knew what they were coming here for and the lemmings went for it, I was going to ask to have my hand pictured in a scene in the record bar but reckon it had too many wrinkes,
So agree Dave, lets wait and see.
I agree with yourself and Dave Jock but one point about the extras....I know they aren't paying them but for my niece who is doing a performing arts course it is valuable experience for her. Especially if it does well and she gets picked for some of the dancing scenes-she can put it on her cv! She isn't bothered about the fee, she's happy to give it go for the experience
Maybe people who are in key dancing scenes will get paid in the end?

We would love to be able to pay extras, it's a sticky situation for all involved, and we absolutely appreciate that for some, working without payment is not an option. If we could pay extras it would make the recruitment process a lot easier. Sadly, the film is a micro-budget feature; if we had to pay 1,000 people the film wouldn't be possible to make, which is why we are asking people if they would like to volunteer.
The day will be really good fun, people will get to see the workings of complex dance and crowd sequences being filmed, meet the crew and cast, and get to dress up. It's a really great opportunity to have a bit of a laugh, and for performers to put it on their CV as feature film experience. For young people it will probably be their only opportunity to pretend they're at Wigan Casino too.
We could do with you guys' help to spread the word amongst your nearest and dearest. If you know anyone who fancies being in film, please tell them to get in touch.
My husband's cousin is a young(17) trained dancer who specialises in street dance and gymnastics. If she applies to be an extra is there anything she needs to tell you on the form to let you know this?

I did like it, up until Prince Phillip Mitchell tryed to snog my daughterat Prestatyn weekender.
Ah well if you're going to use that criteria not to like a record then there would be a few on the list!! Unless they're long dead of course
or female
Let's just say Mr Mitchell isn't a one off

I remember seeing him at The Marrs Bar, he must of thought i was a right nutter because i was staring at him for ages trying to place where i knew him from!
He's in a few things now-that new family comedy with Nick Lyndhurst, used to be in Two Pints of Lager. Not seen him in yonks cos I don't go to allniters that much-he's a nice lad

Surely this thread is nigh on impossible (except for the borrowed funk and modern stuff) as surely most things were played somewhere up to and including Stafford?...even if it was only once?
Ok I will try a couple but they will probably fit into my previous categories

Pat and the Blenders...this is a big unsure???
