  1. Wake up sleepyhead
  2. I really can't wait for you to come up one night when I'm playing and complain about the label the record is on...(actually it's usually a blank)...
  3. Didn't we decide to shelve this most boring of subjects after agreeing that at large or major venues, it's out of order to play pressings, at small soul nights it makes no difference.
  4. Not while I have breath in my body
  5. OK mate, spread the word! I'm not opposed to an R&B hour or two!
  6. You know anyone can do a guest spot on that radio show of mine don't you? It doesn't have to be live, most of the time I am there lining the tracks up but you can load it up with as many tracks as you like and put it on autopilot. So to do a guest spot, you'd just have to record an hours worth of whatever you want to play (on cd or tape) (if you want to talk on it, thats up to you), send it me, then I convert it to mp3 and broadcast the whole hour. The only pre requisite is that this is meant to be Northern Soul and Jamaican 60's music so anyone who wants to do a modern spot, it's not worth it, honest.
  7. Listen tonight mate, broadcasting through the night and all day tomorrow
  8. You'll either stick with it or decide you can't stand it mate - there's not many inbetweens. Great Clydie King track up next though (soul track I mean)
  9. So you missed out on hearing some great records because you didn't like the labels they were on???
  10. Yeah it's not quite what I wanted to play tonight but I didn't get time to do a 'rare' playlist, I played stacks of rare stuff yesterday so - AS REQUESTED, NOTE - I'm playing a lot of oldies tonight, but alternating them with the ska and rocksteady, still sticking to the Jamaican versions of soul and r&b numbers in the main, when that lot has played, ending around 11pm I think. I'm going to repeat all the rare stuff from yesterday and leave it running all night, so if anyone gets in late and wants to hear sommat decent...
  11. It's called modern because it sounds modern compared to 60's!
  12. HEAR ME PLAYING CLASSIC NORTHERN SOUL, SKA, ROCKSTEADY AND REGGAE 1960-1972 BROADCASTING ALL DAY AT https://pirateradionetwork.com/ (GO TO 'MUSIC' THEN 'ALTERNATIVE' AND CLICK ON 'SKA & SOUL A GO GO') Todays broadcast features Jamaican versions of classic and obscure American soul numbers, 1963 to 1973 ... with a big concentration of Rocksteady classics. Many of these versions are easily as good as the originals! There's also a good selection of Jamiacan artist Northern Soul 45's. This show should run for around 4 hours. N.B. There may be a break in the middle of the show if I am able to pick up the Man City v Man Utd match on Coolstreaming at 3pm! Tonight at 7PM, it's back to the regular format of rare Northern Soul and top Ska, reggae & Rocksteady sounds. I am hoping to broadcast all night tonight. There were 176 listeners yesterday...THANK YOU! A few people asked about introducing the records...haven't sussed out how to get a mic working on there yet but will have a go on Sunday. Cheers Pete
  13. That was actually The Wailers belive it or not - it's an old calypso song - everyone's had a go at it but you're right, Lance Percival did have a hit with it!
  14. Yeah I saw it advertised - he's got to be about 65 I reckon
  15. If anyone was actually waiting for the blaxploitation/70's funky stuff, the northern is overunning by about an hour by the looks of it

I've never actually seen a copy of this since it came out, apart from the one I think it was Russ used to play at Wigan. I love this track!
  17. I'll repeat the lot for you again if you like Wendy
  18. Yeah considering it's impossible to find unless someone tells you where it is - loads and loads of listeners yesterday, about 30 today, I've really pulled some good stuff out today though to be honest Ged, a few jaws must have dropped when I played that last couple of unreleased things. Just need to get a mic working with it then I can invite people round to guest spots!

So are we really saying there is a conspiracy to close down the West Midlands soul nights? If so, who is behind it? The main troublemaker, mentioning no names, doesn't live in the area nowadays!
  20. Yeah I know him mate, from sh.com, he's a good lad, he's doing a guest spot on the radio station, God help us
  21. I will definitely play that all time classic for you Craig
  22. Really? Who was that then? Thanks for the plug, much appreciated. I hope a few caught some of those unissueds yesterday, val simpson, jean carter etc.
  23. Cheers to everyone who tuned in yesterday - over 60 people - ended up running it through the night and there was still one person left when I got up this morning. Done a few themed shows for today so I don't know how these will work but the general consensus is that people like the ska and soul to be alternated, not one hour of one and one of the other. Anyway 12 midday RARE NORTHERN SOUL and TREASURE ISLE ROCKSTEADY Northern includes Tommy Turner, Ree Flores, Betty Wilson, Arcades, Soul Communicators, Hytones, Hyperions etc 2pm RARE NORTHERN plus CHOICE SKA Northern includes Caressors, Greater Experience, Appreciations, Startones, Rotations, Gallahads, Grand Prixs, King Sound etc 4pm Some BLAXPLOITATION FUNKY TRACKS mixed with REGGAE VINTAGE 69 Not quite sure about this but going to give it a go Will be broadcasting all day and all night with a mix of ska and northern soul...new playlists I AM HAPPY TO PLAY REQUESTS - NORTHERN SOUL OR REGGAE - EMAIL ME WITH ANYTHING YOU WANT TO HEAR AND I WILL MAKE UP A REQUEST SHOW AND LET YOU KNOW WHEN IT IS GOING TO BE ON Timings are approximate. how to listen.. go to https://pirateradionetwork.com/ scroll down until you come to MUSIC go down to ALTERNATIVE and click on SKA A GO GO if you click on the name you can download the player and listen in excellent quality. If you click WEBSTREAM you can still listen but the quality is not as good.

Just a thought. Studio One is down a cul de sac and there are only a few residential buildings, but I suppose they are free to object if there is noise at 2am in the morning, cars etc...having said that, it's off a major road and I would have thought the traffic noise goes on most of the night. So it might be a legitimate complaint from residents. Such a shame though, I was really enjoying djing there.
