The Lovelites....my Conscience
I see loads of records mentioned on here and I think to myself, I bet they wouldn't have heard that unless I'd taped it for them years ago, except hundreds more people must be thinking exactly the same thing themselves, there was such a huge swapping network 15-20 years ago. I remember a couple of British things that went massive which I featured, Timi Yuro and Ketty Lester, but although I mentioned them nobody would remember the names of the people who first found them, in fact if I remember rightly it was Mick Boland who found Ketty lester, and then of course every record I ever reviewed was "originally played at the Torch just once then forgotten"...or so I was reliably informed. There's a couple of records I reviewed that I don't think I ever uncovered, one that I remember was a fantastic midtempo soul track on the reggae label High Note by First Generation called Give Him Up or Give It Up. It was on the back of a single by Dave Barker. I must have stuck that on a tape but sadly can't find a trace of it now.

The Lovelites....my Conscience
Very harsh. I remember when no-one gave a rats ass about it when I reviewed it in my own magazine over 10 years ago and included it on one of the tapes. It all goes round in circles Matt!

Re Issuse Rubish
One in Stoke, one in Scotland (can't remember name of the place, sorry). Also way back, I complained about a bloke who sold me a cd of Mary Wells (this is when hardly anyone had cd's) and they were all 80's recordings, he refused to replace it, I complained, trading standards went down there, he rang me up and told me to get lost, I said I'd burn his stall down, it was a messy affair

You have to go back a bit further mate, it was massive in 74-75 and actually pressed on Soul Galore in 75...remember a lad at our youth club having that with Hot Line on an emidisc. One of my all time hate records

Steve - his name and email are on the first post- The Lovelites....my Conscience
I do, but no scanner at the moment...will attempt a photo later if you like- Re Issuse Rubish
This is not true, twice Trading Standards have made preliminary phone calls on my behalf after filling in the forms on their website.- The Lovelites....my Conscience
Johnny Ross - I Can't help myself - Chirrup label - that has a photo of someone on there.- The Lovelites....my Conscience
Thats the This Old Heart Of Mine album. Several of the Motown albums have covers like that or cartoons or no pictures at all, just so they don't have to show black people. Remember the cover to the Jr Walker album Roadrunner? Motown said this was because a lot of shops wouldn't stock them if they'd had the artists on the front.- The Lovelites....my Conscience
I've seen other records on that label with pics of the artists on - last one was Little Ray I think. All the acts appear to be hispanic.- The Lovelites....my Conscience
Even I like this!- 80's Soul Swap-shop
Blimey - in that case, £15!!!- 80's Soul Swap-shop
I'd have said £25 tops! Came out on UK as well i think.- 45s, For Sale All Set Price,
Thing is mate it's a hard life and sometimes that's what we have to do - I'm always having to reduce records simply because there aren't enough people buying at the top level nowadays - so I'll start it at £200, next week if not sold it will be £175 and this goes on until it's a case of lose money but at least get some money in! I've got 4 records on Ebay as we speak, three are really good northern (Ben Atkins, Sandy Wynns on Doc, Willie & Handjives) I paid about £280 for those and I originally listed them to net me £400, it hasn't happened, I've taken the reserves off and I'll just have to face the consequences if someone picks up a £200 record for £20. Six months ago I would have sold all those easily. The rule I have to remember is: the fourth record I have on ebay cost me 50 pence and it's likely to net me £50, so it's all swings and roundabouts.- 45s, For Sale All Set Price,
See this is what often happens, instead of people sorting things out it just kicks off. I said in my post these were a few general observations. But... there's ways and means on ebay, you can make it so that people have to pay you instantly via paypal, and if they can't they won't be allowed to bid; you can get all the exchange rates at xe.com but best to advertise in UK £ on the ebay.uk site to save f*cking about with dollars; postage for one 45 in a mailer with 2 bits of cardboard via recorded delivery costs £1.25, charge £1.50 and you've got the money for your mailer and they've got their recorded delivery...£1.50 is a fair price.- Lonely For You Baby
Firstly, there is no such word as 'pokled' secondly, please refer to my previous postings where I said all these were done for a laugh and not to be taken seriously. Thirdly, yes.- 45s, For Sale All Set Price,
This is just a general reply and no comment on any of the above postings. If this happened in any other walk of life, people would demand their money back in no uncertain terms. If Sainsbury's sold you a joint of beef and you got home and found it had gone rotten, you'd be back up there demanding compensation. It only seeems to happen with record dealers, and I should know! If I sell you a record and it's not as described, you are 100% within your rights to return it. If the goods do not match the description and are unacceptable, you should return the item and demand a refund. If you get no joy, do not hesitate to contact your local trading standards. Last year I paid £80 to someone who never sent the record I paid for - after 2 weeks I reported him to: barclaycard, paypal, ebay, trading standards. Trading Standards will act on your behalf and at least make a phone call. I got my money back.- Lonely For You Baby
No I don't think I heard that, the only other one I heard was the Ian Levine one- Magnetics I Think
You shouldn't have said that. I'll begin work after the football.- Fabulous Playboys - Apollo
I had a WDJ about 4 lists ago, didn't sell at 60 quid, sold it for 40!- Newly Cut Acetates
Get back over your own side- Newly Cut Acetates
As I get the blame for everything else that goes on, you might as well name me as one of the people, I can take it - 45s, For Sale All Set Price,
