  1. I remember back in the 70's when I was buying new releases, lots of my mates were saying they were shite etc, lots of them records are now northern classics, and same people rave over them now, strange world of northern soul.

I've got nothing against Kings Go Forth or retro-sounding records on the whole, I like them, but I hate the name calling aimed at people who aren't interested (dinosaurs, relics) so why do it? It just makes you look as if you're trying to come across as being superior to everyone else (see Paul S's comments for more of the same).

  2. My friend, you have to accept that the 'Northern Soul' scene is Dogmatic and bigotted. The term 'Nothern Soul' has been hijacked by a load of old moaners who have forgotten that they used to hear 'New' tunes every single week. They had to batter the term into a meaning that fits their love of hearing the top 500 over and over and over again. Its a fear and safety thing.

ONE DAY is a superb track and you should just feel pity fot the ones making negative comments. Fear is a negative emotion and thats what drives them..yes.gif Bless.

    Patronising as ever...

  3. Having just got Myron and E- its a shame, this track is amazing!!!!! Maybe a little more conventionaly northern sounding for the relics, we'll see what reaction this gets ta night.

Ooh look at us, we're so evolved we can accept music from any era and class it as Northern while we leave behind the rest of the dinosaurs, look at them enjoying their traditional Northern Soul, how dare they...

SHOVE 'EM UP YOUR ARSE

  5. 265 views and just 3 silly offers, are things really this bad?

People just don't like making offers, simple as that I think, not without a minimum bid stated anyway. For whatever reason; not clued up enough to know the value, don't want to bid more than the seller might have accepted and so on. And a lot of people on soul source are notoriously tight (unless they are selling), always asking for discounts, free postage etc.

  6. When this came up about two years ago it was apparent that the 70s issue was pressed from the original stampers and was not easy to tell apart from the 60s original press.

Anyway i got mine off you Pete so I'll have a good look tonightrolleyes.gif

If my theory is right then you'd be entitled to a refund!

  7. Right I'm going to add a bit of fuel to this fire, we know the off white ones are reissues and think the pale blue ones are real, but they aren't, they are also reissues despite what any book says or doesn't. The real original stock copy is ba slightly darker blue and the lettering is a really deep dark blue.

I won a Rose Batiste - Hit & Run off ebay on sunday and when I worked out the price it turns out I'd paid £225, so I thought hang on, I only sell it for £200, if that, why would I pay £225?

Anyway, when I looked at Bidnapper, I was meant to have put a snipe on of $238.88, but I'd actually bid $23,888.00 :D

  9. maybe its 90p or something now but you get my point... cardboard for stiffeners i get from work or the supermarket for free and send them in padded envelopes which i also get for free as I ask the post room at work to keep any they get in for me and I re-use them for records. Is time consuming though chopping up all the fcuking cardboard, trimming down the padded envelelopes to 7" size, looking out for decent 12" cardboard. Sometimes I feel like adding on more for postage, I certainly work to keep it cheap!

I used to do that but I send out a lot of records so in the end I started buying pre-cut cardboard, what a life saver that is.

  10. I've had two different stories from two different PO's regarding 1st Class recorded......

One says that records can't be classed as letters, even though it fits through the Large Letters slot, therefore must be sent as a Packet and charged £2.37. The other says no problem, and classes them as Large Letters (£1.65). The only reference to this that I can find anywhere on the Royal Mail website quotes, gifts such as books, etc, should be sent as Packets but no specific mention of records.

The last batch of records I sent went as a mixture of the two, but the packets only went as packets because they didn't fit through the Large Letters slot.

As you might have guessed, I will be using the 2nd PO for now, until I get definite confirmation that records are not valid letters.

The ones charging you 2.37 haven't got a clue what they're on about!

  11. As an occassional ebay seller. I normally charge £2 to send a 45.

Forgetting the cost of postage and packaging, the real cost is in me getting there. It can be 1 hour round trip to my nearest post office, thanks to many of the smaller ones having been closed. Maybe you should take this into consideration before thinking £2.50 is overpricing.

Absolutely no way, you don't live near a post office, tough, that's not your customers fault so why should they have to pay? I do 30 miles a week travelling to and from my post office, I wouldn't dream of asking my customers to pay for me to do so.

  12. Daft prices for a soul pack record, I couldn't believe it when it went over £10, it used to be as common as Beti Webb. Great track, but not worth anywhere near what it goes for now. I used to have the LP a few years back.
