  1. Yep, "Bump All Night" is the flip of "Extra Careful" - at least on the JA original it is

    K.

Thanks K. - I thought it was but without rummaging I couldn't be sure. I'm sure its the flip of the UK issue too.

So W. King Cole is Billy Cole !!!

Did you mean you had actually seen I Wonder Why on this label or that you'd just seen the label before ???. No-one i've shown it to yet has seen it on this label before - and I thought it was hard enough to find on Micron !!!

Anyone want to buy my Soul Vibes reissue ohmy.gif

    Cheers Girf

  2. Never seen it before Gareth. It made me laugh tho' as Rah tid is a Jamaican swear word. Looks nicer than the Micron one as well.

    Jordi

Yes Jordi - I spoke to a mate, who's heavy into reggae earlier and he told me its a 'rude jamaican expression'. He had also never seen this issue before. It was he who brought the Soul Vibes reissue into the UK, pressed from the original master tapes.

  3. Posted

Just picked up a copy of the W. King Cole - I Wonder Why 45. Been searching for a reasonably priced original copy of this for years - but all original copies I know of are on a Jamaican label called 'Micron'.

Has anyone come across it on this label before ???

    Any info appreciated

  4. I'm No Fool? Last one on ebay in my notes went for $214. Is Come Back the flip on this? Know it came out on Stanson as well. Great bit of deep.

'I Wanna Thank You' is his title on Stanson - with a different flip to either the Teri De or Musette. Title escapes me now but its bloody hard on this - well I think so anyway whistling.gif

  5. There was a track gettingspins from this LP a couple of years ago, the title escapes me at the moment, but I always think "Life" is the best track on the LP......in saying that the whole LP is very listernable (!).

    Chris

Keep Feelin' is my fave of the LP, Life of course is fab & Smother Me was a huge London sound. Isn't there a cover of Open The Door To Your Heart on there as well ??

  6. NER,NER NER,NER NER! IS THAT ONE TO KEEP IN MINT COND AND THE OTHER TO USE AS A POXY FRISBEE!

Yep I keep my CD in a velvet sleeve, and regularly pop over the park to launch my LP at the wind

Tis a bit good ain't it.

  7. can't remember off hand the rare version that was played out of "a man can't be a man" male vocal, but found a half decent version by james +bobby purify on casablanca, mines a bit of a rough copy wouldn't mind a clean copy

    Mick

Would that be Bill Coday's version on Epic ???

    Girf

  8. Thanks for the info Mick.......have you seen the CD for sale anywhere....what should i expect to pay.....?

I found the CD by chance 3 or 4 years back and don't recall seeing another. Seriously much harder to find than the vinyl - although likely to be cheaper !!!! I've got both by the way

  9. Dr Bob Jones - DJ Update Jan 2006

It seems my initial plan of quiting DJ'ing in the UK in 2006 has been somewhat premature.

Due to numerous requests from Promoters and the public alike, I will be DJ'ing at selected UK venues and bookings in 2006. These will include Weekenders, Southport, Prestatyne, Soul Village and Soulville, Chilli Funk Records 10th Anniversary Parties, Festivals and some UK Clubs. I want to thank, Rick & All @ Mona Rennalls Agency,Lofty, Gav and Werner@ Chilli Funk Records, Alex & Dave @ Up North Promotions, Soulboyz, Soulpranos, Manifesto, Faith, DHP, SOTRC and all my friends in the Music Business and Club Promoters for their kind words and support. It seems my plans to retire gracefully will have to be put on hold for now.

For future dates check out www.doctorbobjones.com

    Thank you

  10. Looking good...... that's the kinda reply I like to read!:D

Anyone got info on 7" ???

Not sure exactly but def no where near the price of the 12", which is the full length version and titled 'Seven Minutes Of Funk'. The 45 is half that length - hence the 'Half Of'. Probably about £15-20 on a 7".

    Cheers Girth

  11. I ended up selling a copy of Al Johnson for 75. To be fair, with some records there is a less clearly defined 'price' for them. At the time I acquired it, I saw Al Johnson listed for 200 quid on some sites (probably still is) but when I failed to shift at ever decreasing prices I just kept reducing it until it did sell. I don't think it's necessarily greedy to ask 150 quid for a record which is listed on several 'big dealers' lists for 200 quid, especially when it also getting talked about, though you have to decide whether you want to keep it forever or start reducing it if it doesn't sell. Dreadful record IMO anyway... at the end of the day you have to pay the 'going rates' for the records you want, so you have to try and get 'the going rates' for records you sell. We all over and under pay and probably over and under price from time to time. Nobody is perfect in that regard.

    Martin

Martin - I should have added that I thought your price was reasonable too cos I had seen this listed @ £200. I gauged my price on recent Ebay prices, and taking condition into account came up with £75. And I thought it was dreadful too whistling.gif . Still got it as well :P Ha !!!

  12. I had a record on here last week (on Thelma) for £75 and in the same sales section someone else had it for £125...that's £50 in the space of one column :P

Same here - copy of Al Johnson on Burt for £75 while in another sales thread someone was mentioning what a great sound it is @ £120......

Admittedly there is a difference in condition of the two copies - but not THAT much.

  13. I love this record. I wouldn't mind one either so pick out those spares guys and send them our way! whistling.gif

Which side do you guys prefer? My pick would deffo be IWTWYIMA...

    // Kristoffer

I initially bought it for Try Love but in recent years its the flip that does it for me.

    Girf

  14. I want one too. I posted a want about 18 months back. Nothing :(

I had a fairly marked copy of this, which played fine. I then found a nice mint one for £15 quid - so I gave my marked one to a mate - for nuffing !!! A year or so later it was being touted around at £400....Doh !!

Still, that same mate did give me a slightly marked copy of Earl White Jr - Very Special Girl.......for nuffing, so we call it quits :D

  15. Alright, on my right I've got a pile of ten singles on Thelma, on my left I've got a pile of ten singles on Philly Int. Which one do you choose? If it's the one on the left, you are in the wrong place. The mainstream soul forum is elsewhere.

    I'll have the Philly singles

    Chars !!!
