Yes I think the majority have expressed their support for this project. Where were you people the first time we debated this subject? I suppose it is thoughtful that the writer and the production chappy have joined this forum because they care what people think. Care in some part from the director also for his statement. However I feel a little unsettled by being judged from afar by a non member. Fighting amongst ourselves? I've always seen it as lively debate! Also 'little to agree on'? There are many forums and many aspects of the scene we discuss agree and disagree on. In the final analysis we agree we all love soul music! As said and in conclusion best of luck with the film, I hope it is a raging success and I can't wait to see it. But don't think for a second you can show up out of nowhere, judge us and tell us what to think. We were debating all things northern soul long long before the Souled Out film and we will continue to do so long after it has passed. Ian Sims

Thanks for answering that question and sorry for any disparaging remarks. Just that unwarranted media interest can spark initial feelings of trepidation and mistrust. When I think of folk like Robert Elms and Trevor Nelson given license to speak with what what seems authority on a subject they have little or no knowledge of. Even profiteers from within the scene selling our wonderful music down the river for a bucket of greasy fried chicken. That said I wish you well with the film and I look forward to watching it.
  7. Am I right in thinking there's two different types of demo for this?

What a superbly concise post Chris. All of the important points covered that a would-be film maker should be mindful of when entering into a project such as this.

I've nothing against romance. So you're saying the film is a romantic drama and the so called northern soul is just subtext? That be the case the film could be called Loveydoveydom or similar, but it isn't is it?

Plot schmot - all these points have been raised and questions asked in the other thread, why we need two, I don't know.. Yes there has to be a plot but does romance have to be the central theme? I'm not saying boyfriends and girlfriends didn't go, what I'm saying is romance should be way down the list and definitely not the central theme for a film about the northern soul scene of the seventies. As stated questions have been asked, but here's another - can you scrap this one and start again?

Think again Bogue how many people do you know that went to Wigan cite love and romance as a key factor?

  17. 5 or 6 listens since 4:11 pm and I'm miffed that I'm selling records and not buying at the min, else I'd want to be proffering eight hundred quid or sim. Still can't quite put my finger on it 100% and looking forward to more listens, but feels like entering the arena of awesome. Sorry for the waffle, good luck with the sale.

Is it necessary to pigeonhole a 'target audience'? How about just the audience? Bearing in mind the total and utter crap that is on at the cinema week in week out; Batman 46, Diehard whatever... No I think there is a good majority of the common populous that enjoy soul music at heart and a properly promoted film about one of the longest running dance scene's shouldn't be that much of a risk. I think Quadrophenia was an authentic British film about the mod movement of the mid sixties - no more no less.. Does it matter if they get it right or wrong? Erm for me, yeah because the majority of NS portrayal's thus far have been very very wrong and it would be oh so feckin nice if someone could get it right for a change! Rant over, sorry Juli ..

In fairness though if someone was making a film that had been on the scene for a long time and was making it purely out of love (and it was authentic) that would be fine. However unemotional producers, bubblegum love story and crap music and they're entitled to pre-egg imo.
