THE DEVIL HAS MADE THIS LAND HIS PLAYGROUND B. CAN I USE YOUR BODY Gospel laden Disco from the early 80s, re-envisioned by Tom Noble on the Superior Elevation label. This is the original, haven't seen a copy for sale for a couple of years & here it is. CARRIE CLEVELAND (AUDIO-ENT) PROMO COPY £275 HOLD A. MAKE LOVE TO ME B. I NEED LOVE A few different versions were released of this Bay Area tune; 2 45's and an LP This being the rarer & better version of the 3. Known for it's A side, the B-side is equally as good and very rarely shows up for sale. FABULOUS MALIBUS (UNITY) EX £650 SOLD A. MY LOVE B. FRUSTRATION A Chicano group from San Francisco recorded these two tracks in the 60s as part of the Youth For Service scheme; an initiative set up to work with local gangs. 'My Love' being the epitome of timeless Sweet Soul. HIGH VOLTAGE (CHEKMATE) VG+ £300 A. I WANT YOU IN MY LIFE B. IF YOU LOVE ME Unknown late 80's Modern stepper from New Orleans. Only trace I can find online is a copy selling in '09 in VG shape. Cleaner copy here, unknown & sounds pretty decent to me. KO-KANE (KONE) VG- £300 A. SHUCKY DARN B. PINK GIN Fantastic lo-fi funk, probably recorded straight onto cassette. First came across this at Wax Trax in Las Vegas where Mr. Rosen offered me his copy at four figures. Took a few years to come across an original - beware of the white boot! Awesome 45 if the lo-fi funk is your thing. THE DEVASTATIONS (GIMP) VG+ £1500 A. WHAT MAKES ME FEEL THIS WAY B. FUNKY GET DOWN Enigmatic double-sider from Tampa, Florida. One for both the Sweet Soul & Deep Funk collectors. The sweet side has a few crackles which clear up whereas the funk side is clean. A VG copy fetched just shy of $3k a few months back, take your chance to bag a cleaner copy at a more competitive price. THE RISING SUN (SUNCUT) VG- £100 A. ONE NIGHT AFFAIR B. DO WHAT YOU'RE DOIN' The Miami group, The Rising Sun, cut one single for the Suncut label, this being it. The group are also noted for being the backing band for Perk Badger's release on the same label. Disbanding after two years, the group left this hard-hitting masterpiece to remember them by. SOLID BROTHERS BAND (BALDWIN) VG £400 A. LET'S GO DISCO B. LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE Nothing known about this Pennsylvanian oddity, late 70's disco/modern/funk. I know of one other copy in Japan and that's it. It's a martmite tune, so if you love it then I'd imagine this will be the only chance to grab one. SIGNIFICANTS (ALESVER'S) VG- £135 A. I'M LOVING TOO HARD B. ONE KINDNESS DESERVES ANOTHER One of the first ballads I picked up from none other than the Southern Soul Spinners. Little did I know it also had one of the finest crossover tunes on the A-side. Staple Florida masterpiece. ROKK (TOLLIE) VG+ £875 A. PATIENCE B. DON'T BE NO FOOL Mid-70s Modern masterpiece from Los Angeles group, Rokk. Another with no introduction neccesary, spins across UK & Europe and scarce to come by. Slight warp affects first few rotations then plays spot on, price reflecting. DAVID PEOPLES (SARU) VG- £120 A. GOT TO GET MY BROOM OUT B. GOT TO GET MY BROOM OUT (INSTRUMENTAL) Ohio wasn't short of musicians with great taste and this early 70's offering on the commended Saru label is no exception. Loud pressing drowning out any boom-ticks! BERT BAILEY & THE JETS (JETSET) EX £70 A. IF I'M RIGHT B. BOTH SIDES NOW Mid-60s island sweet soul by Mr. Bert Bailey & The Jets. One to get recorgnised amongst the slow & low crew. THE SPECIALS (SATCH) VG+ £450 A. I CAN'T FIND ANOTHER PART 1 B. I CAN'T FIND ANOTHER PART 2 The third & final release by The Specials on Satch. Regular spin down at Inner City Soul amongst other UK & European events, copies becoming more scarce and in-demand. Recently hitting 4 figures at auction, this one being more pocket friendly. Symphonical Records are open for business with our first release. Now Available!! UPHEAVAL - 'COME ON WITH THE COME ON' / 'T.L.C' (Symphonical Records) A double-sider comprising two previously unreleased tracks by the group 'Upheaval' which were recorded inside Waupun Correctional Institution. The 9 piece Wisconsin outfit was formed whilst behind bars, cutting a series of live recordings over a few days in 1979. Several of the group members had no musical training before entering prison, however the band built up its reputation through concerts for inmates, the local public and radio. Upheaval only had one release to their name, 'Paradise Lost' / 'Now That You're Gone', on their self-titled 'Love' label. Only 25 copies are thought to have been originally pressed, with even less surviving to the present day. The two tracks on this 45 have not seen the light of day until now. They were recorded live using only 2 microphones and the only surviving 'masters' were in cassette form. Both sides are raw, powerful and soulful - a true upheaval from behind bars.
