  1. Wish I could Pete....sort it out and ill go. But, as i said ther are loads of examples of 'funk played over the years on the Northern scene! I hate the shite pop thats always gone hand in hand with Northern...to me its NOT northern, just shite pop...take Levines stuff as an example! But some call it Northern! Kiki f--king Dee, Camp, Johnny Vanelli, Harry Betts, Esperanto....your play box Pete Fact is the Northern Scene doesnt hold a singular definition. Its idiosyncratic and has always contained elements of funk, from Wigan through to the Mecca and beyond! Its only the musical bigots and those with closed ears that forget that.
  2. Thats exactly how it should be ....the uk thing is fucked up because of peoples dogma, categorising and imposing of rules. Ghetto Kitty, Beginning of the end, Francine Mcgee etc have all enjoyed success on the so called 'Northern Scene' back in the day. Its since then that people have become bitter and deaf. Norway sounds great....keep it up!
  3. That is not a good tune...horrible.
  4. BUTCH did a great set, no deep funk, it was soulful funk and soul. There is a big difference! Top stuff. Better than All the worn out oldies I heard on Saturday like 'sweet memories', Papa Bear etc...battered to death tunes!
  5. Ha! thanks Ken! Still obviousy recovering from saturday
  6. I was there from the kick off and didn't hear one 'deep funk' choppy changy track? I did hear some terrible battered oldies at points. But thats the nature of the night, a bit of something for everyone. Jo Jos is a deep funk venue, its a different genre and none of the 100 club tracks fell into it. There were tracks that were not 4/4 northern soul, if thats what you mean?
  7. Thought Marco and Butch did great spots at 100 club! Best of the night. So, it must be Keith, Mick or Adey?
  8. Hi, whats this sell for now and whats JMs book price . Help appreciated (selling mine) best paul
  9. CARRIE CLEVELAND - Make love to me / I need love Audio ENT m- (the very rare brilliant double-sider) £250 EPSILONS - Mad at the world Shrine vg++(small crack in run-in, doesn't affect play) £120 so rare! 10. Why did you then put the B side first, when the A side is simply the best Northern Soul record I have ever produced in my life ???? I was really not expecting much, but my god! This is bad on both sides. Dire in fact. Clumping soul that highlights the fact that you left the scene in 1980 and missed the hundreds of great, soulful, subtle, well produced records that djs carried on discovering after that. Its the sort of thing a 16 year old may have danced to at Wigan on his first visit, until he grew up and discovered 'soul'. Its got the tinny production quality of 'Duffys' truly atrocious 'rain on your parade'. If thats one of the greatest Northern soul records, you really need to do some catching up and take some time out to listen to whats been going on on the scene during your sojourn into the pop industry. This even falls short of the 'Poptastic' category.....a howler!
  11. GENTS and NATURAL R Gone....
  12. exactly! That was my reaction! but it turned to this then I put the ear muffs on !!
  13. pmd you.
  14. Im sorry , that is just horrific. Clattering, reverby, clumsy,4/4 electronically produced, weak, rubbish. KGF just eclipses it im afraid (both sides). The KGF guys know their soul and funk and have paid attention to detail and sound reproduction and more importantly the guys can sing! This sounds like it could have been be a WHAM hit! Dire....A case of the emperors new clothes for sure!
  15. VERSATILE GENTS - You've blown my mind Linco m- (Storming up-tempo, semi-known Mick H play) £150 Come you UPTEMPO lovers, doesnt get better than this!
  16. Your right Tony, im only parting because of neccessity. Can only assume its not too known?

To me Northern soul has never been dead. It has just had a period say 80's and 90's where less attended cause they got married. had kids and so on and now in the 00's come back There was still people going out and DJing etc. just not as much as period of the late 60's to 70's Spot on and people seem to forget that the scene would not exist today, but for the small group of people who carried on, with passion, through the 80s and 90s. They return and pontificate, as if the scene died when they left and as though its going to thank them for coming back, like a long lost messiah's to claim their former glory. The 80s and 90s were just as important as the 60s and 70s, yet people seem to forget this! Dj's carried on discovering and breaking new tunes and we carried on dancing.
  18. Will do Miss Goldie! People just dont know either cut i think. (apart from a few!)....
