22 years for me and the magics still there, so many great nights, Maxine and Ray Pollard among the best.
Remember descending the stairs at the start of one nighter and Mick was tearing the place up with 'why when the love is gone', EVERYONE was dancing and it was only 2am
.
(Still miss Clarky tho
)
Baby head wetting and 30 years in one night, top hole dear boy, top hole.
Jim
Cant agree with you more Mr Elliott. Has always been a priviledge and hats off to you Ady et al for your sterling work over these years, it is appreciated by so many. Long gone are the days of Invictaway coaches from Ditton corner and trying to get a half fare but there is still that excitement and so many great memories....long may they continue.
Something tells me little Sam has been keeping you up bud
. Have a safe journey down to the smoke.

Lee got 5 copies of YCMI. ( Well, thats the laugh we always have about it anyway, eh mate?) Chemicals??
I did indeed Mr Elliott....always laugh about the fact that when Jim and I were at the 100 Club some waster offered to do an exchange for "chemicals" for a copy :wanker: . No ta and I wasnt even wearing a lab coat!

Almost certain he got some OIAM Demos, Think he claimed he was a band member after his recording's which is why there was a front page story about the scam he was pulling.
Well Jules, dont believe all that you hear....I infact only got 5 copys of "You can't mean it" one of which still sits in my collection, the rest are long gone. No "One in a million" demos.
And as for being a band member...
lolol a 38 year old Kentish one...no, where the hell did that come from? Actually I never saw the article but would be keen on seeing it if anybody has a copy.

Following what was yet another fantastic Soul Essence weekender (all to quickly over with) Soul Sam played a rather choice tune by Broken English with the title eluding me but I think it may have been "Whats the difference" or something similar on Pesante records....perhaps out of New Jersey??
Anybody got any info? And even better a sound clip.
Cheers

At last it's the proper Wand 45, and it's funny that all other reissues since copied our audio and made exactly the same mistake. This is the first time the right take has been on CD.
I Want A Guarantee is purposefully a quite different equally good vocal take to the original that we put out as we thought it deserved an airing. Why Did I Choose You is a very good dancer that has never been heard before.
So Ady where did Why did I choose you fit in amongst all the other material....its obviously a new one on me.....and you know me, I will be buying this cd for this track alone....but at this very late hour I am curious indeed

Hi Darryl and welcome to Soul Sorce. Glad to hear that after 40 years of not knowing the popularity of in particular the legendary "Name it and claim it" that you will be able to feel as deep sense of achievement in your recording at Wand....it always has been and always will be a classic tune to so many. Here's hoping you will be able to share your memories of it.
With best regards
Lee

Otis, James Carr, Bobby Bland,Tommy Tate, Aretha, Bill Brandon, Sam Dees.
Just as I expected Mr Webb!! Well, atleast with the first 3 names....but rather pleased with your inclusion of Mr Brandon and Mr Dees....choice.
For me, predictably 1st in the lads spot is Mr Jackie Wilson. 1st for the lasses Ms Maxine Brown. Oh christ I am late for work!

As a young un of 36 years with limited knowledge of any of the events concerning KR, my impression and opinion was formed by the following encounter and it is perhaps representative of some of the words that have already been typed -
Blackpool weekender, whatever year. Frank Wilson signing a particular book. KR with the words to me and a buddy as we went to queue to chuck our ta very much in.... "You havent got / bought a book so you cant talk to FW"
Opinion formed, never been back since. Its not a case of cutting ones nose to spite the face. More a case of have some respect for those who have and do line your pocket.
As for investing in Northern souls future..lolol...well lets just say with comments like that I am glad you are not managing my money!

I think I might have told this before but I can remember as a young office clerk in the late 8ts / early 9ts sitting at my desk in my lunch hour absorbing a soulzine wondering as to how I could pick a copy of this 45 without paying too much for it...so I placed an ad in the local rag up in Carlisle telling some porkie about looking for a copy of "You cant mean it" saying it was my Dads fave 45 and wanting to obtain a copy for his birthday!
Ok it was slightly dishonest but hey needs must and bingo...ended up with 5 copies for a total of about £100...including an absolute minter which was £60. 4 copies were sold on and the proceeds went on buying Les Chansonettes I think, the mint copy remains tucked away.
Don't surpose anybody ever saw the ad ?

Rest in peace mate, will miss that ferocious dancing. Thanx for a memorable trip to the Ritz in 96.
I had no idea until this eve with of a text from Jim Elliott of Jims sad passing. I too recall that trip to the Ritz in 96 but as many my resounding memories of Jim are of the 100 Club and of frantic dancing. One of lifes nice guys. My regards and condolences to Jims family. Rest in peace buddy.

I think I can live with new tunes arriving a tad later than expected but how will I fare with having sent off this morning my cheque for tickeys for the up and coming 25th Kent records anniversary bash in London! Guess who doesn't watch much TV or read a newspaper and knew bugger all about any postal strikes?! Think I will be a very unhappy man if I lose out and don't get to see my fave lady Maxine B.
Never again will I use the post to buy tickets when the credit card / paypal option is there. Damn fool Bates..

One that springs to mind is James Wesley Smith "Talkin about woman" Or is it just the beat that makes dancing to it slightly difficult to keep up with?
