Glad you all agree about the Skip Mahoney tune chaps! Another thing I really loved about the Pitches/Phoenix was that there was a lot of "Southern Soul" played in amongst crossover tunes etc. Mind you that was back in the days when you could buy anything with a Malaco label blind without worrying! Loved all the southern stuff like Ronnie Lovejoy, Mel Waiters, King Ernest , Sheba Potts Wright etc!

Me too mate! I've just finished transferring over to CD and had great fun doing it. I was the first winner of the Soulful Six! I remember phoning Rod to claim my prize and he knew nothing about it!

He could also be found at the early Yarmouth Soul Essence weekenders. I really liked the stuff he used to play on his show.

Apparently Mr Davis is very much into prog rock these days!

One of my favourite tunes from Pitches was by Skip Mahoney but I can't remember any details. Can anyone shed any light? Pretty sure it was Sean that used to play it.

Used to love Mike Ward's early hrs spots at the Phoenix , not too sure about him singing along over the mike though!

Great to see Rod Dearlove getting the praise he so richly deserves! How about a shout for Steve Davis Radio show on the Superstation at the same time. I know it had a massive influence on me!

Too right, great times. Canal Tavern under control of Mr Dearlove was the absolute business! Pitches and Phoenix tremendous too. What a pity Just Soul doesn't seem to be a regular night on the calendar any more!
