  1. Excellent Dave. Amazes me why records of this quality never make it past a studio disc

Yes strange! Got it from Ernest Kelly, but he couldn't remeber any of the history that went with it. Sounds late 60's early 70's could have been one of the first things he worked on with her. I'll try and push him to recall next time I see him.

  2. CAN'T ACCESS FIRST CLIP..WALI ALI..LIKE IT.. LOOKING FORWARD TO HEARING IT OUT..VILLA ???

Might give it a spin, used to play it at Stafford and Bretby of the Jobett 3 disc promotion LP from the mid 70's, thats also where the Family Affair comes from. But you have to hear the first track C J Surge, just heaven. Plays ok when I just tried it

  3. the box section is 'look at your box'. i added a link in my original post.

not to worry, i will move it over there.

    cheers

    Shane

Your kindness has no limits

But you need to find a better sound clip insertion solution, I got 10mins older doing this :P

  4. Mac "came out" out towards the end of Yate, moved away from Worcs to Birmingham/Derby I think, and no-ones seen or heard of him since. Pity, he was a good sort.

P.S. Don't forget Greety...we could hold the reunion near a kebab shop...

    Hippo.

Bugger, how could I forget young David Greet :P

The Bj Thomas record was I dont have a mind of my own, other plays that bring that time back to me were Hippo playing Whisky Talking.

Not having a car we used to have to get the bus from Glouester, then stop off at a pub out of town before running the gauntlett of 'the locals' to keep us amused remember receiving loads of bruises from the trolley races outside whilst waiting for the bingo crowd to disappear. Long waits in the morning at the baths getting clean before the dreary journey home....................

Anyone else remember the swinging place and wheelright, whitcombe lodge and the stroud all dayers ?

Oh to have Ian Clarke , dave thorley and some of the others back together again..............

    EEEh wern't it great............ whistling.gif

    Doris

To get many of the old Yate dj's together would be a major task

    Ian Clark-personal stituation makes unlikely

    Steve Smith-lives in Germany

Paul Guntrip, Jacko, Kojac and Jethro-Sadly Passed

    Dave Withers-lives in the US

Gary Rushbrooke-Left the scene with no wish to return

    Brian S-Who knows

    Soul Twins-?

    Mack-?

That leaves me, Ady Pountain, Hippo, Tony Ellis, Pep and Blue Max.

I may have missed a few but, not easy to have a true re-union and thats all that left of the dj's that worked over the three promoters that ran it, ho-hum

  6. Nutters you say Baz? You have to have been on a Gloucester/cheltenham coach to a niter to fully understand the phrase...come in Steve Smith...

    Hippo.

A Gloucester coach anywhere, Leon, Denis and Gabby fighting most of the way, Gabby often fighting with his girl friend Joanne. Boy how did a girl that small punch so hard. Usually getting stop by the squad before we'd even got outside the city limits. Coach got bricked twice, once at the Plymouth Allniter and once on a trip to St Ives. Happy days

  7. Hi Ken

Why did you lock in down so early, been out all day, went to responed and couldn't. Great record loved it then still do. What was the story anyone ?. Don't think this is the same George Clinton and I'm sure it never got a US 45 release.

    Dave

  9. Nice record that Dave, cheers. Easy, hard to get? Cheap, expensive?

Easy to get, cheap as chips. Whole bunch on GEMM 45 or 12. That recording is the full lenght 12" version.

But as you know quality is often not about value just love it.

    Glad your all enjoying it

OK well surely this evening will be better, the itinary is: have a bath with the baby, that's always fun, and we have a new clockwork swimming hippo toy to try; cook the tea, delicious looking cheese and potato pie made by myself; watch x factor, both episodes back to back; watch MOTD while consuming several bottle of Bud; watch that new documentary about the twin towers falling down. Great.

    I am so old.

A few tips for tonight, keep the dog away from the pie. Allow a cooling off period after X Factor. Drink lots of bud and maybe this time the towers stay up.

    Dave

Some records just get you up for the weekend, here one that always does it for me. 60's fans run for the hills 6mins of heaven

Norma Jean-Saturday(Bernard Edwards and Nile Roders at their best)

Cheers Dave, that put a skip in my step for the weekend ! ( 38 degrees centigrade today .... the world is frying ..not even summer yet !

may try and play this in my set at the national weekender in Melbourne ;-)

could you pass on my best wishes to Ay Pountain and Arthur and Maria at the November night you are dj,ing at

    all the best

    Pete Morgan

    (sydney)

    Hi Pete

sure will, must get over to The National one time Ady has told that it's worth the trip. Have a brother that lives in Sidney and never been to see him, so could do the two together.

    Glad you liked the track

    Dave

  13. Dave, I am having a worse morning. Got up at 8, walked into the kitchen, found a huge pile of dog sh*t, went to get something to clear it up and literally skidded on a second pile. Cleaned it up. At 9 am a bloke came to buy 4000 pop singles. Loaded them into his car, he paid me cash, as he drove off I realised I'd charged him 250 quid instead of the 350 quid we'd agreed.

Took Sammy to playschool to escape the wrath of Davina.

    Hi Pete

Did your day get any better. My sons side won at rugby, so happy now.

  14. Surely the fact that the scene isn't mainstream automatically puts it into the 'underground' bracket?

As already stated, how many people in your everyday life know about rare soul?

How many of them would quite happily travel hundreds of miles to appreciate the sounds of rare soul and happily stay and dance all through the night?

Not going to pretend to be an expert on this, as it's only the last couple of years that I have found a massive appreciation for 'rare' soul, so does that make me 'new blood'?

I also tend to agree about a more youthful movement starting up in Europe, the same can be said for the Mod scene too. The only reason I can think off is that it's all 'new' to them, they haven't had it before, so they wont get people the same age as their parents attending their nights out. Not exactly rebellion is it?

I put this comment on a Mod forum, and would be interested to hear a 'soulie' perspective.

The Mod and/or Soul scene would never have a 'revival' as both are very British phenomenums. Unfortunately, and here's the key difference between ourselves and Europe, our culture is more in tune with America and we no longer have our own identity.

    What do you think?

Go to the inner city of most european cities and the common music of the young kids is hip hop, american culture is just as strong there. In fact in many german cities it is even more so because of the strong US miltary presence. You will find many Hip Hop clothing stores and music shop. Soul is an underground scene as here. The difference is they don't have the same holier than thou politics of the UK

  15. Well..years ago I lived 15 floors up in a tower block..the flats are worth a fortune now but I didn't buy mine because the human shit in the lifts used to put me off a bit.

At that time I had an Old English Sheepdog and he used to sleep in the kitchen at night.

One morning I woke up, went into the kitchen and the dog was lying on his side and the floor was half an inch deep in blood. He'd got the lead top off of a wine bottle out of the bin, swallowed it and it caused a brain hemmorage which in turn caused him to loose all the sight in one eye and 80% in the other eye. Two years later he was out with someone and they were carrying him up an escalator, he got shoved into and dropped the dog who got his foot trapped in the top, result was half the toes gone.

He went to live with my parents and died a year later having choked on a chicken bone, again from a bin. Not a lucky dog.

    Moral..dont drink wine.

    Just brilliant!!!!!!!!!!
