Super stuff folks!x Say Hi to Dennis for me Jerry!x He;s probably left his hair behind after all the racing around he did...hehe!x Caroline...and yes...a super singer she is/was! I don;t know if she did anything else after this? There was talk of it but I don;t recall any further tunes they made up to say 1998/9. Thanx for the info....and have you got a spare 7"...or perhaps Dennis might have 1!!x Sepia...in all my time of going to auctions/boot sales and general back second hand shops....the 'record dealer' has got to be one of the most 'tight' people to 'trade' with!! I will say no more....but where their 'soul' goes during such trading is beyond me!!hehe!x LUV SOOTY X I suppose it's the same buzz they get when running off taking ure tunes cheaply or selling you them dear....as when I used to walk out of a business deal with £20k for a £500 valued deal! Same buzz...different level. Seedy tho'...mines business...records are 'personal' shirley? Never 'stole' from the people. The State and system/Large corporations/Banks/Govts and local Authorities yep..fair game! Lord Leverson and other inquiries are exposing how they have taken the P out of 'us' all over the years. The fact I started in the 80's and retired taking the P out of them in 2000 before they were all exposed means I was sharper and they were slow! I still don't have a bank account or credit card after 30 years....stuff em all I manage me own affairs!x Unlike the record dealers...at least i wore a suit and tie for my 'daylight robberys'...hehe!x @@ ~ Since 2000...when I put a suit on....folk just laff.....!x I like that better...X More stills from the forthcoming DVD...including the moment Kenny bought The Nomads...that very night!x

...Little Dancing Dennis!!!....they were inseparable at the beginning of the Manifesto launch....and super dancer Dennis was/is too....Polly had a grooove in him as well I recall!Thanx for the reminder 'Givemesoul'!x I know they did a few 7"...and I wish i'd have had one of those too....as I would have kept it!!!x I don;t do LP's or anything outside of 45's when DJing or collecting...all me boxes are 7" size that hold my stuff....and perhaps that's why I let the 10" acetate go....it was collecting cobwebs in me LP box which consists of.... Chitty Chitty Bang Bang....Gene Pitney's Big Sixteen which me siss got me when i was 11...16 Big Movie Themes....a lovely album featuring 50 WW2 songs and original singers.....and a few 12"...Blueboy/Marlena Shaw...Shirley/Propellorheads and Candi's You Got the Love....and I think....that's it....and the 10" sat in front of the lot!!! So...I passed it on where it would get to the front for playing....not storing! I do regret it....I could have made a clock outta it or summink! A DJ got it I believe....it was one of the stipulations at the time of sale! Did me best for it!x The Manifesto Mag went 'ballistic' in it's first years which began about the same time as us 'newcomers' all took off around the UK in the 90's!! This article appeared in it which reflected the times at the time....and reading some of you folks comments across the forum.....some things don;t change!!!x Founately for me...the music has remained constant....since 1974....and I focus on that these days still!!x This article I wrote was in issue 3...February 1995! Forgive the quality...but it can be just read when zooming in in windows photo viewer and the like for those wanting to read it.... As for the record itself....I used to play Brainstorm...Loving is Really My Game at about 7.52am @ Blackburn....and The Exciters Reaching For The Best....at such times too.....and this was definately an 'extension' to those and i thought well done...and believed in it and it certainly produced results on the floor wherever I played it!x Happy Days...and a 'rare' tune indeed!!X I'll be happy for the tape to just go to someone who will appreciate it....and tbf....the point of the Ebay 'sale' iwill be to promote the music and scene anyway!!x We have been editing the forthcoming 'Togetherness' DVD....and I have watched and listened to every word said by Soulies and DJs throughout. Terry Davies says this to me on it....'the scene will die with us'....that was 10 years ago! His enthusiasm shown...passion and dedication....as listened to again this week...inspired me to do my bit where possible today...to 'pass it on' and am happy trying!x As for the DVD itself...there are 3 potential Distributors whom we want to give 'sole' rights too wanting to review the whole product....and...I found some other bits to put on there....so....we is doing a final edit Monday/Tuesday and then we go see these folk and get it all sorted! After watching it in its entirety...the original film....I am surprised at how timeless the comments made by all are! Also...the 'passion' of all pours through the film. It ain;t about blowing my trumpet as such....the film does capture THE scene...from a ground floor perspective...and it is for me perhaps the bestest 'natuaral' documentary i've made with my Production Company...and we've done over 100 films for me to gauge in the past 13 years! I'd give you all a copy for free....cos it was done for 'fun'..for me....but....business is business out there....and i'll do my best to get it all delivered to you as cheap and cheerful as possible!! On it...X Sorry for the small delay as I had said it would be available in April....but it will be worth waiting for an extra week or two....timeless means...timeless!x We have just negotiated the rights with the purchaser of the 1st album to allow us the right to put the 'original' versions of the Zoots Northern sampled tracks...on vinyl!!! They will not be the commercial releases which feature new singers...but the ones you've heard already in here...by 'normal' folk...which I think will be rarer and fitting for the northern scene methinks! We reckon they'll be double A siders...and perhaps....perhaps if the interest is there....then we'll produce new songs for release in that series purely for Soul fans...and their kids"!!! As said....doing me bit to appeal to new genertions and tie the scene in with it and benefit too...and will keep you posted!x All the proceeds I make from this 'venture' re the DVD is going to 3 Fans trusts.....keeping it real...and 'for the people'...X The records potential is all to be discussed this week too in conjunction with the DVD release...! So a lot to be excited about methinks....and as we are in a 'modern' groove...it's time to play an all time classic 'Sooty Spin'....and I used to kick off with it regular around the UK....but i'll end with it here....night night!!x @@ ~ LUV SOOTY X EDIT....just remembered.....I have this 12" in me LP box too....a happy memory from The Barn at Braintree 1976/7 funky nights....went twice....brilliant!x...it also means the beddy byes is delayed for 5 more minutes......rave on.....hehe...!X...I have the 7"...and it gets played at me party's.....no worries!x @@ ~

Amongst it all...right out of the blue...I came across this...>>>>> Now Soulies...i'm looking for some help...and an update...before I put it on Ebay for a tape collector to cherish!x What I can tell you from memory is this...! It IS...an excellent tune! Made in 1996...by The Beachcombers...based Bristol way at the time! The luvly Lady on the cover is the singer...and i met her a couple of times....but it was her partner/husband whom I knew...Polly...the guy wh began/took over got involved with the Manifesto Magazine in the 90's!x We spent many happy nights and days together and supported the magazine monthly and things were good! Then...he called me and said...'my Mrs has made a record'! When we met...he gave me a 10" Promo metal record of the tune!! Dunno how many of them he had made...but I think....I believe...there were only a couple! As I was National at the time...he gave me one of these 'rareities'! I played it....job done! He gave me this tape of it too! I haven't played it ever I don;t recall as I had the record! But...it features the tune repetitively throughout in crystal studio form! Went to a small Boot Sale this morning at a Junior school....and the music teacher had decided to flog some of his Dads tunes!!!! I got 4 and give him £5 for his charity pot! He wanted 20p each!!!! Picked out the 'Soulful' ones...or some Soul connection! The first is this 'awesome' haunting tune sung by Cliff Bennett and The Rebel Rousers called 3 Rooms With Running Water! I have 1 other tune by the Rebel Rousers called 'As I look'...an uptempo stormer...but some debate as to whether it was Cliff Bennett featured...but the tune is super! So is this....played it twice...and it sticks in ure brain! I have read it was written by....Jimmy Radcliffe...and indeed his name is on the vinyl! Soul Trivia
Had the pleasure of looking after Doris Troy this night! I escorted her from the above venue too I think Bretby...or The Ritzy for an A/N appearance afterwards...forget which!! Picture this.....the 4th tune my mate played me in 1974 was Doris's I'll Do Anything! Luv'd it ever since and indeed is perhaps the most prolific record I see at boot sales from a Northern perspective over the past 30 years! So....although in my businesses i have dealt with 'the stars' of all types....I was particularly excited meeting Doris! I wasn't dis-appointed! She jumped in the back of the car....said....'do you mind if my Girlfriend come sit with me Sooty'? "Of course not!" I replied happily! Her bubbly Lady friend jumped in....and as we drove through Nottingham they shared the happiness that 2 'lovers' would after an exciting set she had just done in the S/N! Then...she said did i have a problem with gay relationships?! I said "no....me mams gay and has been all me life!" They both became real 'cosy' and we drove around the Nottingham ring road for an extra 20 minutes as they gleamed my lifes experiences with me mother her being gay...and why?!!! I asked her the same! We arrived at the next gig 1/2 hour late as she'd insisted i drive around again as they were both fascinated by the 'chat' we were having! 20 years later....and as said....dealing with many stars that would never even know of Doris....I have to say.....she wouldn't do anything for a man 30 years after making the record...like she had done in her time...and I can't blame her after some of the tales she mentioned as her experience with so called Soulful men. Similar to me mam....which is why we 'got on' I suppose! She recommended me to many of her friends for a discreet VIP service when visiting the UK and we kept in touch thru xmas and stuff until her death in 2004...X We both lived in the real world...and she was an absolute STAR....and she has a place in my thoughts each time i look through my telescope at the night sky! No probs mate!x I come from a Norvern education kicking off with The Champion...Tainted love....and Dance Dance Dance the casualeers....first 3 tunes me mate played me in 1974! Still enjoy hearing them today....!! Footsie...and i remember Space by Magic Fly was in his collection of 'northern' back then too!!! 1 tune I never forgot and don;t see often that I always wanted to play at a gig was....Tom Jones....Hide and Seek!!!! STOOOOORMER!!! But never did!!hehe!x...tell me i'm wrong...!x So i've had a wiiiide induction course...! However...my education on R&B has gone pear shape since leaving the scene 'actively'! I don;t know whats played today....and when I see chart records by soul singers discoey stuff calling itself 'R&B'....then....I dunno where to start these days! But...here are 3 of my tunes that I spun regular as an R&B flavour....my way of thinking...when stomping around the UK in the 90's!x ...and a stomper to go with 'em... I see Mack Rice baby i'm comin home mentioned in the thread....another fav of mine to spin....and I always had this to play as the lights came on at Blackburn or any A/N I finished the night DJing at....at half volume....and always made me feel we'd had a good night!x Since then i;ve played it at full blast as the last record going on the deck with lights on....telling folk to drink up and help put stuff away at the end of a wedding/Barmtsfah or funeral!!! Which Ray Agee are we talking about Chalky??!!!x The Losing record absolute guaranteed....of course!x But are you saying this other one i'm talking about...'I'm not looking back'....is Northern too???!!! If so...i'm so pleased to hear that! I have always liked the record....and would have danced to it meself no probs! When that piano/sax orchestra all 'bang' back down into the beat again is a definate 'spin' moment i've found!! What I mean is that it just had summink 'missing'...or 'extra'...that ensured it didn't make me 'tool box' of 100 records when 'on the move' doing 3 gigs a week-end trying not to play the same record twice!!! In essence...it didn;'t make me top 100 to 'share'!! If it has been played since I came across it....then BRILLIANT!!!x If not....then I could understand why the hesitation or thoughts! ...forgive me for jumping in here....but Pete....that tune Ray Agee...'I'm Not Looking back'!! You consider it not 'northern'...?! Interesting! Morning guys!x Just got back from a long meeting with friends and having a cuppa before bed. Some of them started talking about Car Boot Sale finds....from an antiques perspective! I shared my vinyl experience at boot sales with them. When driving home...I thought of all those folk i've met....barged me out of the way on occasion too!hehe! Quite often they are waiting with increasingly sweating brow dripping over your shoulder hoping u ain;t found that 'nuggett'! All in all...super people and i've enjoyed meeting them all! That experience has been UK wide....wherever I go....they are there! Fortunately I aint got a clue what i'm looking for....so give way happily!! In fact....a Soulie/DJ and dealer whom i;ve respected for 20 years said....as we happened to be shoulder to shoulder flipping thru some tunes a couple of years ago at a boot sale...."...that's a shame...it'd be worth £40 if it weren't broken!". I went...;yeah shame init...do you like it?!"....sez I...."naaaa....heap of shit."...he judges! He got up confidently and went his merry way. I jumped into his box he left and whizzed to the record! Lifted it up...cracked edge.....but din't have a clue what was on it!! So I bought it for £1! It ended up being 'The Sect'...Leader of the sect! A mid 60's moddy tune which jogs along nicely....then maniclly!!! The copy was just...and I mean juuuuust....playable! It was good enuff to make me collection anyway! A couple of months later...me Producer mate Pete...A.K.A ZombieBoy....pops round to hear me tunes! I thought he'd like the funny intro...so played it among me 'unusual' bits during our session! He when returning 3 nights later...asked to record it along with 30 others! 18 months later....or 6 months ago......he had sampled it into one of our tunes for the forthcoming album! That re worked tune....has just been bought by an ad agency......for 40,000 times what it cost me! It's in the grooove...init? Here's that sampled intro worked into 2 Northern tunes.....and there is more....but not here and now...soz!!x The advertisers are happy with just this.....alreeeeeadyyy!!hehe!x https://www.skooters.cc/zoots/sectshine.mp3 I haven't said the Soulies name....because whilst I have respected him and his music....he's never paid me that compliment...ever. He'd only see it as me 'givin it large' if I told him. There's folk who have the music in them and flaunt it....and those that flog it....X I buy!x So Mike/Dave... I thought of contributing to the forum in some 'unique' way! I read threads and want to add bits everywhere....cos I have things to share!!! but not the time to do so! So as said in an early e-mail....i'll do summink 'structured'....and commit to it! Then I can read all over a coffee and get plugged back in to whats 'happening'!x This 'feature' BEST BOOT BUYS ...can be it...if it's ok?! Many Soul mates will tell u it fits too!!hehe!x Shifty and Fudge used to cry with laffter at how 'brave' I was to play 'boots' on occasion at Soul Nights! To me....I was a DJ and there for the people! I never played a tune if someone had it in their box and sharing the stage....never....that would be dis-respectful..I felt. But...at my Soul Nights and at those I DJ'd at....if you came up and asked for a tune...and nobody had it except me.....then I played it! Why not?! It made folk happy.....pure innocence honest!x Anyway...those that slated me for it never give u praise where it counted either! Ady Croasdell gave me the first copy of Carla Thomas's 'I'll Never Stop Loving You'....a few weeks before the Anniversary doo when the tune was due to be given away freely as he did! I played it at every A.N and gig over the next few weeks...Blackburn...Nottingham....Manchester....Bristol and Grimsby I recall....and used it to promote the 100club for Ady....my choice...or my excuse to play it!!!hehe!x. So...I was the first....but those who know about me boots...din;t know that to go wiv it...did they?! Your Current Top Two
...as there is no 'genre' stated in the asking...if it's no problem...I will post me two favs from last week ends car boot sale finds! I have learnt about music for over 30 years by collecting tunes from boot sales.....'randomly'! It is also my 'chill out' time most Sundays having a wander! 99 times out of a 100 i haven't a clue what i'm taking home each week....but that's the fun! On average...I pay 50p.....£1....for a 45....and occasionally find em at 10p each!! Generally I take home about 8-10 a week and 2/3 out of them will make my collection! That collection incorporates soul/Motown/Northern stuff...but....then i have a 'quiz' box...which has themes and quirky stuff from tv/films in it...then instrumentals that 'hit me' that go from the late 40's...to date.....all found at a boot sale! All the 633 Squadron...John Barry...Duane Eddy etc go in there! Then there is me 50's/ 60'/70's and best of the rest section! Me general 50's include rock n roll/rockabilly and Doo Wop along with the classics! 60's is full of stuff like the below! The 70's section is filled with the obvious classics and not many obscure stuff added as it is a lot of shuffling thru records to get to find them....and can't be ars*ed with em all really! I did dance to Funk in '76/7/8 when things like Olympic Runners Keep It Up and Jam Jam Jam were being stomped played in dark rooms in village hall disco's an odd time or two i made them...uptempo stuff...but never got excited by the 'disco' sound that overtook these into the 80's! Then there is an odds and sods section.....all YMCA/Time Warp party stuff! In there are loooads of obscure tunes for occasions such as 7 'Happy birthday' tunes some done by obscure singers on US Soul labels....1 of which i will upload as it does near verge on a 100 club definate....I reckon!!!x The 80's/90's/2000 are covered by about 150 records....Love Shack....If Only I could/Sid Youngblood...M People..and probably on 10-15 tunes represent the 2000's!! For me...after the 70's...it's all been regurgitated! I can 'predict' a tune within 5 seconds....and haven't listened to the radio for music since 1995! I listen to 5 Live....ritually! I was known for playing I'm So Happy-Philip Mitchell UK wide and Brainstorm- Loving is Really My Game at Blackburn @ 7.45/50amish...in particular! So I do like me 70's...but they gotta be that good!x After Donna Summers 'I Feel Love'....I think it took years before anybody came up wiv anyfink new on the pop scene! I have found some absolute nuggets from across the era's that are tunes in their own right that never made it in the charts or owt....or...in my wide scope...could verge on being considered 'Northern' from all genres! To start then...last week I found this by Paul and Barry Ryan. I have Barry Ryans classic hit from the late 60's 'Eloise' but never knew any of him or his bro's tunes from the early/mid 60's! This one....'Baby I'm Sorry'....makes me hairs stand up on me arms like Fred Hughes Oooo Baby I luv U does after 35 years....and that bell/gong.....haunts you all the way thru the tune......50p!....on Decca...!x The second is perhaps an all time 'classic'...BUT...in 7 years I never heard it played once or had the chance to dance to it...and i;m dis-appointed with that after hearing it several times this week!! On US ABC Paramount...Lloyd Price B side...Have You Ever Had the Blues.....10p....and the Personality on the A side plays perfick too! I'd have paid £5-10 for it...but....the pleasure of 'finding'...is priceless to me anyway!x Last year I did a 50th Birthday party for a group of Soulies who piled over to ours regular in the 90's. After i'd give the girls a lift to the venue....then the fellas...I was left with a home made CD in the back of the limo....which i discovered on the way home...! SUPER Northern with an R&B flavour that I have never heard...! On there is this Lloyd Price track...sung by a woman....r&b style....dunno who it is? But...I still prefer Lloyds version....and have done a twirl in me music shack quite happily this week to it!!x 10p...or £10....worth having methinks....enjoy!x LUV SOOTY X Thanx to all the PM's...E-mails and texts piling in still!!!x Special hi to Shaun from Boro's 3 Sad Men...Russ from Portsmouths crew and Donna in the Welsh mountains....who has been bellowing northern out across them valleys since 1988.....when I had a house and business there!XXXX Great to hear from you all and that your all well....and....that your glad to hear from me too!x It's a cult!!!hehe!x 'Underground'....hard core!!!x @@ ~

Thanx Dave...x (Dave Moore)
Hi 123 Motown!x It is a bit out of context I suppose! This post was a thank you to Dave for moving the original thread I started to the 'saeles' forum which was considered mpre appropriate! You can see the 'original' here! Returning friend???....I heard Northern Soul in 1974 for the first time in me life. I was 14. I then went into kids homes...borstal prison and at age 18 set up home wiv me then Mrs to make a life. We did for the next 10 years. At 28...I retired! After a couple of years of messing about in the early 90's...I decided to put a do on with my mate who played me Northern back in 1974 first day arriving at a Cambridge school! We bunked the afternoon off...and played his 100 tunes!! In 1993...after nearly 20 years of listening to these tunes on 4 tapes as me only music i had in any car....I played them for the first time on a deck....and danced to em in a venue...for the first time...aged 32! The same records as i borrowed Waynes from '74!I knew nowt about the scene....pure innocent tunes played...due to the previous circumstances!! Business or HMP pleasure....was certainly summink to do wiv me missing out!!hehe!x On the occasions I came home from the kids homes...I would go to a football match....get 'noticed'...it was the 70's......and be returned! Never did disco's or owt.....weren't free as a kid!x I left being 'active' on the scene after 7 years catching up! I think I crammed more in that 7 years than perhaps my youth would have had anyway!! However....'returned'???!! The music....has never left me....since 1974....and never will....gigs or not!x Dance Dance Dance made me dance back in me kids home in '74...as did Catch the Teardrop did in me conservatory when I heard that 35 years later! That's why I pursued these peedos as described above. I lived with these lads in a kids home for nearly 2 years. I took my mates 100 records back with me once. I remember as if it was yesterday in the echoing gym 'Pain In My Heart'...Tainted Love'...'Seven Day Lover'...the Right Track...A Little Togetherness...ricocheting around the walls!. It was my first ever Northern spot...on a record player to me mates! It took 19 years for me next spot! Unfortunately...it took 27 years for me to find out these mates...brothers...had been abused....in '74. I had to do something. End of. I felt guilty I suppose. I was 'there'...and knew nowt....they never said. So...for me...I went back to my roots that some of you may have been planting at Wigan and A/Ns all round the UK! I had 'brotherhood'....without music....but shared it with them all!x I quit the scene in 2000...to go back to that gym we all shared....and make them happy again. I've done so....or done what I can...X Perhaps it is time for some rejoicing and a return?! But I have shared what i have got....wherever i've gone. Vinyl has certainly assisted with that. But plastic...i ain;t.. Nice meeting you two and thanx for saying hi!xx Edit....here it is...the very first doo after 19 years of listening and never dancing to it! I put meself on at 7-8pm.....I was scared!!!hehe!x A year later....after stomping around the nation.....I ended up at the 100club. I played Seven Day lover...James Fountain. I always put a bit of each in me set! Instrumental...70's...mid tempo...still don;t know wot that is??!! Always think of len when I hear that word!!!hehe!x 60's/R*B...and STOMPERS....if one can hack it!! Why should i have changed that at the 100 club?! The place went mad....with enthusiasm....and i remember Ady smiling leaning against the back wall! All I saw was a packed room of happy folk.....and me??....I was in that gym....X I was told by a dealer that the consensus among some of them folk was that it wos a 60's club! I said...bu**er if i'd have known that I would have brought me Searchers and Beatles.....I thought it was a Norvern venue like everywhere else i go!! We were both then drowned out by Soulies wanting to congratulate me for the set........and nobody to date ever finished that chat.......and I DJ'd a further dozen times at least for them to do so!!!X Besides....I had Mod types rushing me asking wot the hell that uptempo dancer wos.....I said it wos a 60's.....Dance Dance Dance. I fink it wos a 60's anyway! It got the biggest cheer of the night.....I was in me bedroom at the time dancing.....so din;t really notice!x Here Soulmusicforever.....I got a stock of couches my removal firms collected from Psychos who quit practising......going cheap...as ure a Soulie!!x @@ ~

No apologies folks...the tunes have had to come down as i'm sure you can understand from a Commercial aspect! I understand perfectly....but....as said....wanted to pay me respects to the 'hard core' before the masses got it all!!x I've whacked together a 'trailer' to give you an idea of sorts as to what's on the DVD! All done on Movie maker as i'm not at me production office for a few days to do it 'proper'! However....this ain't about glamour and gloss or image for me.....it's personal. it's about trying to carry the music on and appealing to new audiences who take music serious enough to want to know the background.....and end up at a gig.....as a newbie. Simple as. ZombieBoy(Pete) and I also know that any of these tunes playing in a car will entertain Mam...Dad...son...daughter....and possibly get Grandchildren dancing and tapping....all at the same time. My first words to Pete when i heard the tunes he'd done was....'they unite generations'. Job done. Indeed the 2nd album is being done! As for the Togetherness vid...I've watched it for the first time in about 5 years....and it's timeless! The comment said by everyday names of DJ's and Soulies....is still valid today...and always will be....I reckon!x My production Company has made over 100 films in 13 years. Mainly in the entertainment/sport industry. It is tho' in essence just a front for us to use covertly to expose...pursue....capture....and imprison peedo's and protectorets of peedo's within Local Authorities/Social Services Nationwide. No different to the recent BBC/Savile story. Difference is....we would have nailed the modern Execs who continued the cover up! We've been 'at it' for 10 years.....or I have....since partnering a Solicitors practice here in Cambridge. In that 10 years....since making this vid....we've ensured over £4 million compensation has been awarded to over 400 victims.....in 3 seperate cases....in Cambridgeshire alone. Since the BBC outing.......the phones have gone maaaaad. You can read more about it all at www.matso.tv/equal.html Click Keith Laverack icon. It was a night off!!!!x I asked questions that I never got the chance to ask throughout my 7 years of activeness around the UK. I got answers....and feelings expressed....that you won't hear anywhere else! Chris King and I arrived on the scene 'together' in the early 90's.
